The Pacific was also exceptional and apparently Hanks/Spielberg are working on an 8th Air Force series.

Can't wait for the new series, the teaser looked great. Pacific was cool but more fragmented not just in the story telling but the actual film making too... I did like the character development of Snafu though.

I actually love historical series' like these: Brothers, John Adams, From Earth to the Moon, and Hatfields and McCoys were all enjoyable to me, wish there were more historical pieces that were done well like that.

Enjoyed The Pacific as well.

I'm pretty much a sucker for any black & white WWII movie shot in the 40's and early 50's.

Calvary. Powerful and humorous movie.

FWIW, I find Aidan Gillen's accents in his roles to be atrocious.

Saw the new Capt. America movie. That whole genre is not really my cup of tea but it's an excuse to hang out with my son. My opinion may be skewed but those movies are always 30-40 minutes too long. There's no reason for it to be 2 1/2 hours. Seems like I saw the same fight scene 19 times. I'm sure if you like these movies the more the merrier. Plus, none of the hot chicks get naked. I give it a C+.

Watched Bridge of Spies. Pretty good and based on a real life character and the cold war when Gary Powers was shot down over USSR air space and held as a spy. Tom Hanks dd anther good job in his role as the lead.

Such a great idea for a franchise squandered with awful sequels.

Highlander the TV show was straight lit tho... best theme song ever...

I watched Run Boy Run on netflix. Got a really good Rotten Tomato score.

If you don't mind subtitles, it's very good. If you do mind...well fvck you. About a little Jew boy during WW2, pretty powerful.

The Nice Guys is great. I hope it does well $$$-wise because I'd like to see more films like it.

If you watch movies with subtitles, check out "Old Boy" (the Chinese version). That movie blew my mind. It's on Netflix.

Ooo if we're offering movies with subtitles, I'd like to recommend Ladri di Biciclette

Over the weekend I had my wife and sister sit down and watch True Romance for the first time ever for either... Always thought it was pretty typical Tarantino (Story)... Amazing characters that occasionally have great interactions, but as a whole a pretty weak plot... I will always say though that True Romance was an odd film for me because there was basically nothing likable about either lead character... It's basically "two dip shit losers with no real moral compass' get a bunch of other people (good, bad and in between) killed."

Watched it a couple of weeks ago. As someone who watched the TV series when it originally aired, I was disappointed. Too predictable. Seemed to follow the same type of script and pattern most of these "spy action" movies do. Thought the leads were pretty good.

BTW.......Is there a way to ban Hugh Grant from acting?

I liked it enough too. Not great but a worthwhile watch.

I find myself going to the DVD collection a bit lately and pulling out ones I haven't watched in a while.

Last night's selection :

Push (2009)
- Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou, and a few others you would recognize.
- After his father, an assassin, is brutally murdered, Nick Gant (Chris Evans) vows revenge on Division, the covert government agency that dabbles in psychic warfare and experimental drugs. Hiding in Hong Kong's underworld, Nick assembles a band of rogue psychics dedicated to destroying Division. Together with Cassie (Dakota Fanning), a teenage clairvoyant, Nick goes in search of a missing girl and a stolen suitcase that could be the key to accomplishing their mutual goal.
- A good little flick that somewhat keeps you guessing. Notable as some scenes shot on the streets of Hong Kong were filmed single take guerilla style from vans with holes cut in the sides to get the bustle of the real streets of Hong Kong.

The wife is going out of town in a few days and I have an evening set aside to watch 13 Hours. Haven't seen it yet, but I read the book and I am really looking forward to seeing the movie. My wife doesn't like "those" movies, so I usually save them for when she is gone. I have the steak in the fridge and a new bottle of Makers Mark Cask Strength ready to go. Should be a great evening.

Watched it Saturday night on my newly installed Vizio M70. Crazy action, crazy effects. Two big thumbs up. Can't believe how bad the administration screwed that one up. Such a cluster. If it's all true, someone needs to throat punch quite of few folks in DC.

About to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time.

I'm really excited. One of the few movies in the IMDB top 100 I have not seen. Also one of the few Kubrick movies I have not seen.
