You further prove my point, you can find references to "a Notre Dame man" in a similar context elsewhere, not just on IE. Some examples:

Observer Editorial: A true Notre Dame man // The Observer

Father Ted Hesburgh – God, Country, Notre Dame | Notre Dame Club of Atlanta

A True Notre Dame Man, Joe Hickey Made His Place ‘Home Away From Home’ For Irish - Forever Irish

Danny Spond, A True Notre Dame Man // UHND.com

Making his Father Proud :: Notre Dame Football :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics

In every one of those articles you'll find a reference to a "Notre Dame man." I didn't even pull references off any fan forums, I used mostly reputable websites connected to ND. Those were just some of the first ones that came up in a search, there's plenty more out there. So enough of this Michigan man bullshit comparison. Many schools do something similar to distinguish their own alumni, we don't need to quit using it just because the Skunkbears suck.

Idk, still just kind of seems like a stupid argument. In a similar vein to questioning Obama's American-ness for putting dijon mustard on his burger. Does being a Notre Dame man just come down to being a good advocate and representative of the university? Because I'm sure that there are dozens of those guys on the team that are just as passionate about the university, the program, and their teammates

I think it started as a distinction for players that went above and beyond as ambassador's of the team, or had to overcome some kind of hardship to success. I somewhat agree though. Not to turn it into a participation award, but any player that finishes with his degree and doesn't screw up in a major way (Like getting kicked off the team or expelled) probably is deserving of that title at the end of the day.

When I said "Notre Dame man" for Grace it had everything to do with the fact his leg break nearly ended his career, and it 100% cost him his starting spot when all was said and done. That didn't seem to get him down though, he fought back from injury and exudes passion for the university and stands by his brothers, a true teammate above all else.

I mean I agree, but it was also stupid seeing people in the Jaylon Smith with the whole "No true S̶c̶o̶t̶t̶s̶m̶a̶n̶ ̶ Notre Dame man would leave early to go to the NFL" To me, Jaylon Smith will always be as much as a Notre Dame man as Jarrett Grace, Brady Quinn, et al. until he proves to me otherwise

I think one of the requirements for such a title should be getting your diploma. Otherwise you were a student and can't count yourself among the alumni. That's me though, everyone will have their own criteria I guess. Looking at the articles I linked above, all those individuals were alumni that either went above and beyond as ambassadors of the university, or they persevered despite some hardship. The exception in that article would be Coach Brey I guess since he isn't an alum, but he's given 15 years to the university and could have taken better jobs in that time. There's also Father Ted I guess, and while he graduated from the Catholic University of America, I think he gets a pass since he did receive an honorary degree in '84.

It was great seeing Grace play today. Looked far superior to what Joe did all year

ROFL. Did you see this man trying to cover people today? At least Joe stays in the general vicinity of the man he's covering.

Didn't Grace come in for Coney though? I don't think he's ever played that position, and he's played pretty sparingly this season as it is. He's a run stopper, always has been. Just be glad he was healthy enough to play today, because I'm not sure who else we would have put in after Coney since Morgan is a ghost outside of Special Teams. Martini could have come in I guess, wouldn't have been much different than Grace coming in.

Wrong on that account.......Martini is an OLB, and is waaaay faster and quicker than Grace. I was shocked and upset he wasn't on the field.

Beyond Jaylon Smith, our entire approach to the linebacker positions remains a mystery to me.
That said, it was nice to see Grace make a few plays out there yesterday (and in a few games earlier this year). He sure earned it, and I'd expect he goes on to very good things after football.

Martini mainly played to replace Onwualu though, right? And Onuwalu played a lot yesterday.

Martini was on the field for at least one play. He tried to leap over the RB to get to the QB, ended up on the ground, lost contain on the outside, and a ball carrier(I think the QB) went around the end for about 15 yards.

Grace should have been in a coaching assistant role all year and not in pads. I understand the emotional loyalty thing but he hasnt been able to contribute to the team outside of his vocal ability for what two years now? He could have done that as an assistant and saved the position for someone who would actually help the team play wise.

What? Weren't we under 85 again anyway, who were we going to bring in to fill his spot? He was extremely effective against shutting down Georgia Tech's running game if I recall. He's played occasionally throughout the year. Just because he was asked to play for an injured Coney at a position he doesn't normally play at doesn't mean we need to dump on him. I'm just glad he was healthy enough to go at all this season.

Didn't Martini have a broken hand? I heard that limited his play.
