If our starter this year plays well enough to declare early, we're all going to be very happy Irish fans. And that's probably the only scenario in which one of Zaire, Kizer and Wimbush doesn't transfer out, which is also excellent.

I agree. My bold prediction is if Kizer starts he is the #1 overall pick in the draft.

Malik would be taking a big risk going to the NFL with only one season as a starter.

What season was that? 3 maybe 4 games...between two years. He's not going anywhere close to the NFL until after Kizer wins the NC this year.

Then Malik wins it in '17 and Winbush completes the dynasty....we are all happy.

In my head is how I see it...

Yes, but no room at the inn is a great problem to have. The days of rolling out guys like Pat Dillingham, Evan Sharpley, and Tommy Rees are still pretty fresh in my mind.

Did you forget that QB that transferred to Cincy to become a linebacker...what was his name?

Kizer is every bit of an NFL QB...if he blows up, like we all think/hope...could be number 1 overall. Yes, that type of potential.

Oh no I didn't. That was the 2007 Georgia Tech game, which was one of the hardest games to watch in recent memory (along with about 6 more that year). Jones played one possession IIRC, lost a fumble or something, and got shitcanned for Sharpley.

Keith Arnold has joined the #KizerTheFirstRounder bandwagon.

A guy on reddit (non ND fan) is very intrigued by Kizer. I find his analysis to be pretty fair normally and he thinks that Kizer could be really special. It's just nice to know that non Irish fans are thinking about Kizer like we are.

There's a lot of scenario planning right now between the three QB's.

I'm beginning to believe that if Kizer wins the job, this will be both his and Malik's last year in South Bend. DK goes to the League and Malik goes to a Clemson or Florida. If Malik wins he job (I'll never bet against him) and assuming he's healthy like the Malik we saw in the Texas game, he won't pursue his 5th year and make a run at the NFL leaving DK and BW to fight it out in '17.

But if DK goes, why not stay and take the ND job assuming he can beat out Wimbush? BK loves his veterans so I'd like his chances against Wimbush.

If that happens, it won't be about beating out Wimbush. I think it would be more about a change of scenery.

Could be one of those things where he goes somewhere and is guaranteed a starting spot. Why compete with Wimbush in his last year, when he can walk right into a starting role. Purely hypothetical anyway.

Yeah, with the way the grad transfer rule is written, it's not like you are quitting on your team. Golson got a bad rap for what he did but he did the smart thing. He had his degree and he was what was proven to be, the 3rd best QB on ND's roster if he stayed last year. He got a chance on another big stage to have guaranteed clock and keep his NFL hopes alive.

But once again, I don't think it would be out of fear of competing with Wimbush, I think it would be more of a scenery issue.

Jones QB'd the first 6 possessions for ND. Sharpley came in with 2:46 left in the 1st half. I was at the game, and everyone around us agreed; even though Sharpley didn't do anything in his first possession, there was no way you could put Jones back in. He looked absolutely shell-shocked in his last 3 or 4 series.

So is it fair to say that DK is the best QB Prospect ND has had since Anthony Vernaglia???

Only in the most vague "he's taller therefore better pro potential" sense. Otherwise, it's a crazy argument right now.

Why? Because Watson has more passing and rushing yards? He also ran 33% more plays than Kizer and played with a significantly better defense. If you extrapolate Kizer's stats to the same amount of plays, they are pretty comparable.

I will take Kizer's better arm, better size and higher ceiling over Watson. I get why someone could easily choose Watson over him, but it's not a "crazy argument" if they think Kizer is a better NFL prospect.

Watching the two battle against each other in the ridiculous rainstorm we sat through this year was eye opening. Watson had a couple of huge plays, all runs, but DK outplayed him and looked like a much better pro prospect than Watson. Clemson should have buried ND in the second half of that game but their offense looked horrid and Watson did too.

Because from what I've seen from them both Watson is the better overall quarterback, particularly with his accuracy. I'd take Watson's leadership and all the off field strengths too.

I mean, you just tossed it out there that Kizer has a better arm. I disagree which leaves you with what I said, it's mostly based on Kizer's size and all potential rolling down hill from there.

Not really, I added that I see Kizer with more long term potentia because he has far less experience and has more to learn. It's not just that he is prototypical NFL size and Watson is notl. He is as good as he is with only 13 total career starts. Like I also said, if you extrapolate their per play production, they are both pretty close.

Kizer has more come from behind wins, so I also disagree with you on the leadership.

Finally, I think that the sheer fact that we're debating it shows that your original comment of the thought being a "crazy argument" seem kinda silly. Not everything you disagree with is a "crazy argument". It can be reasonable to have a different opinion.

I'm with Wooly on this one. Kizer put up fairly comparable numbers to Watson, given he played far less time than Watson. Also have to remember that Watson went into the offseason as the undisputed starter for Clemson, while Kizer was the 3rd string QB and got zero legitimate reps almost all offseason. Now Kizer gets half the starter reps compared to zero from last season.

What I'm wanting to see from Kizer is if we're going to get a significant improvement from his midseason level self or his end of season self. Because prior to Wake Forest, Kizer was easily among the best QB's in the game and had ND on the cusp of a playoff appearance. That stretch of Wake, BC, Stanford and Ohio State, Kizer looked nowhere near as good as he did in mid-season.

I like both guys, I'm pulling for Malik, but to play devil's advocate to the above...when was the last time we looked as good or better in November (And beyond) than we did in September or October? 2010 is probably the last season we actually looked as good or better than we did in the previous months. Something about November seems to hit us hard and cause the team to slump every year. They don't necessarily lose a lot of games, but they're far closer than they should be.
