what a shame. Seems like yesterday, Kelly was lit up like a Christmas tree talking about Grant on NSD

Meh, sucks to lose a guy at a position of need. I thought I remember reading something on here implying that he is somewhat cocky and entitled and not the most well-liked guy on the team.

He is very arrogant. I remember one episode where he was on campus eating and through his trash on the ground. Someone told him he should pick that up and throw it out and he said they have custodians here to take care that walked away. Rumor I heard is that he is suspended because he walked out of practice. Not sure how accurate that is but it's the only rumor I have heard so far.

I don't know anything about Grant, no inside information or anything. I remember seeing this picture during his recruitment though, and my immediate thought was "This guy looks like he could be arrogant and kind of a douche." Again, don't know Grant or anything and haven't heard anything, maybe this is all a misunderstanding and he's cool, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

kid made it to Notre Dame...Hard to believe attitude can be a problem. Stranger things have indeed happened...I just hope if that is the case, someone with some sway in his life helps him get right.

Was he supposed to have run? driven? jumped? hopped? danced?

You don't think Notre Dame has had its share of "attitude problem" guys? Ha.

I would say that we have had as many or more than a lot of programs. I'm not going to put specific players on blast, but I know first hand that we have had our share of real douches on the program. We by and large have terrific kids that use the opportunity to become excellent men. But you're kidding yourself if you think simply getting to Notre Dame is a barometer of whether a kid has a good attitude.

Couldn't be less surprised. He got into a fight with a well respected offensive lineman last year in the locker room.

Hope he gets it together.

I have a vague memory of another defensive end recruit (5-Star rating to boot.) who spread his grandfather's ashes on the Notre Dame campus before his negative attitude took him back to his home state of Florida. He's playing in the NFL now, but Notre Dame was better off without him. Sometimes good athletes develop a sense of superiority after being placed on a pedestal with all the attention received during the recruitment process. Most of these players can be confident in their own ability and still blend into the team chemistry. Others just never get the team concept. We are looking for confident players, those who use practice time to make their case to be on the field on Saturdays. Time will tell if Grant uses this as motivation to work hard and return to the team or takes the easy way out and transfers somewhere else with lower standards.

Probably have a couple kids every cycle who believe they should be playing, and are pissed...and that manifests itself in some acting out...I get that. Thats to be expected based on their mental makeup. Probably have kids who aren't the most outgoing or friendly...thats to be expected too. I don't know this kid's issue, or if he has one at all...but the issues being described seem not to be competition issues, or hyper-focus...but real flaws. I'd think truly and overtly flawed kids would be a rarity. I still believe a kid deciding to go to ND knows what it is, and wants to be better....understands what it means to choose ND...understands this isn't tOSU...and they generally embrace that. So yea, I can fathom a douchy kid...played with my share...but we weren't at ND either.

I'm not trying to burst your bubble or anything, but the bolder is simply incorrect. There are kids nearly every cycle that end up being either low character, poor attitude or simply a douche. It's just a fact of life with every type of organization on the planet. It's no different with Notre Dame.

This isn't just my opinion, btw.

Lest we forget this from 5 months back:

Looks like things have been brewing for awhile. Hard to believe this kid grew up a fan and is so discontent with where he is. If he has an attitude problem that may supersede everything else though.

Big Mike McG.....who by the way, is the last guy I'd want to fight.

I'm surprised Big Mike didn't pumble the lil prick.

I will say this though, takes a lot of balls to front on Mike. The dude looks like an angry version of John Cena.
