Agree. Seemed to play better near the LOS but was consistently playing off. Made some solo tackles in space.

I may be in the minority here but I see KVR coming back.

Played really well in his 1st career start today. He's going to be a player for us moving forward.

Watkins played tough and played like a playing trying to prove he belongs out there and with passion which I loved, but he did not play well. He made 1-2 nice tackles and the one nice pass play he broke up probably was pass interference on him.

I think Watkins played pretty well. I wish we would have pressed more or at least give them less cushion.

There were some nice surprises for me today and Nick's play was one of them! Great game young man! The future is bright!

What didn't he do well?

Played well from what I saw. Good for next year. Who the heck plays Safety is another question.

Based on what? For a first time starter with little PT all year, he made tackles when he needed too and wasn't a liability. If that was pass interference, that would be crap because I have seen ALOT WORSE not called

Very happy with what I saw from Watkins today. Good chance he's the #2 DB next year. I don't think KVR returns and I'm hoping Butler gets moved to FS.

Thought youngster did well, and could be a player next year. We need a few back there.

I thought Nick played well today too but if Shaun Crawford comes back 100% healthy I think he is our guy based on his highlights and the fact that he was set to be our starting nickel this year before he was injured. Plus BK always spoke very highly of him. Maybe Watkins can slide to nickel or maybe Crawford is just a really good fit for nickel and he'll stay there with Watkins outside. All this is only if KVR doesn't return. Good problem to have tho. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Not going to harp on a young man making his first start, but I don't think he played all that great. Got beat a couple of times, one when the guy just dropped the ball and another where interference could have been called. Also gave big cushions.

He's to hoping getting PT is a way forward.

He consistently allowed his receiver to catch 7-8 yard passes in front of him

That;s true. Its what I thought as well. But it looked like it was by design. He was playing soft, and OSU took advantage many times. However, this is where BVG needed to get a clue and play him up after the first pass, on the first play of the game.

I would say that was probably due to him being told to not get beat deep. He did get beat deep twice and luckily the WR dropped one ball and he got away with PI on the other. With that said, I thought overall Watkins played pretty well. As he gets more reps his confidence will grow and I think he closes up those gaps in front of him. One bright spot was that I thought his open field tackles were solid and he didn't seem to shy away from contact. Another round of spring ball and some weight room will do him some good.

I think this is accurate. Looking forward to seeing him earn more playing time.

Well here is an article from last night about Nick and it doesn't talk about an injury but does talk about how he expects to be starting against Texas. Do you have a source for this injury or are you just going to keep repeating a rumor without anything to back it up?

I like that coach Lyght is putting an emphasis on creating turnovers from the backend this year. We need more disruption from that unit, and I beleive that we have the group to do that if healthy. Nick really surprised with his performance in the bowl game; add him in with Luke, Crawford, and Tranquill, and we should have the stingy secondary that we lacked last year.

So we just gonna sit here and act like Tranquil didn't get burned like toast when he started for Redfield? Imo, he needs to stick to that 3rd down/ passing situation blitzer who was a playmaker.
