Tough break. Hope he heals quickly and 100%, but our success this year is not dependant on him. Jones, however...
If Lou Gehrig or Cal Ripken Jr had played football for Notre Dame........
Our S&C program is fine. Do we have more injuries than other programs? Probably not. This is a dilemma every coach faces every year. How much contact should you have to prep for the season? Chuck Pagano has the Colts hitting more than in years past. Coaches change it all the time trying to find the right balance.
What a shame for the kid. One of, if not the most said freshman name by Brian Kelly all camp. Sounds like he was really ready to step in and help us this year.
Rest up, Shaun. We'll really be needing you in the DB next year when Russell is tearing it up on Sundays.
It's funny see fans claim there is something wrong with our strength and conditioning program, yet Tranquil came back stronger and faster than ever from his ACL injury. This loss hurts do to depth reasons. How much was Crawford going to play? I'm not sure, but I still find it funny fans complaining we will have another year of Farley yet he led our team in Interceptions and sacks.
BK has talked about CJ, ESB and Tillery all more than Crawford.

Coleman is slated for nickel, correct?
Crawford has been playing at corner?
No Watkins in the nickel? Is he strickly a backup CB? Haven't heard as much about him as I had hoped this fall.
Nickel is probably Farley #1 with/without this injury, but then it jumps to Coleman with Crawford down. Crawford is just a play maker, so he will be missed even though we may not notice it. He's the kind of guy that can go pick 6. Could have been a bad man in the slot if we needed it.

I think it's the opposite. Coleman has been playing outside when KVR slides over to the nickel, I believe (maybe I read wrong, though), and Crawford was working inside.
Either way though, I think the effect isn't huge at this point, thanks to Coleman's progress and the fact that KVR and Farley can both work at nickel. It does suck to lose Crawford, but he was going to be a coverage specialist on obvious passing downs. ND can still put a good coverage package on the field without Crawford, and early down packages won't be effected much at all by his absence.
The only question for 2016 seems to be if Crawford is going to win the No. 2 corner position behind senior Cole Luke or if he'll return to his nickel spot and finally give VanGorder the type of playmaker he's wanted defending the slot. Either way, it seems like Notre Dame wins. Crawford has all the tools to be the most important freshman or redshirt freshman to take the field next season.
More good news has already happened as Crawford was cleared for full participation earlier this month so the staff will have plenty of time to figure out how to use him in 2016.
