If we beat Ohio State? No.

Yea, win that game and our momentum will be crazy. My bold prediction in that scenario is that we land Corley as a surprise commit to go with McCulloch, Pride, Hamlin, McKinley, and probably even one more big-surprise. This has the potential to be the game that thrusts us into the playoffs next season, with the potential to win it all. I know it's a lot to ask, but at some point we have to turn the corner and win one of these big-time bowl games. It could be a similar rise to like what Dabo has done with Clemson, and the path led them through, get this, LSU and Ohio State. We have already checked one of those teams off our list!

I dunno, pretty sure it's a simile. Can we get a dshans ruling on this?

dshans, if you're out there, metaphor or simile:

A simile (/ˈsɪməli/) is a figure of speech that directly compares two things through the explicit use of connecting words (such as like, as, so, than, or various verbs such as resemble).

It's a simile

But he's been called softer than a B1G 12 OOC schedule.

It's a simile

Give the man a cigar!

But the funny (dare I say ironic) thing is that a simile is a metaphor, like a proper noun is a subject, or a transitive verb is a verb!

(Specificity of metaphoric subgroupings. So at least two or the three posters are correct. Of course the statement : "But he's been called softer than a B1G 12 OOC schedule," can also be an analogy if you have a softness model you are using that can be transferred from one to another element; think marshmallow!

The Fighting Marshmallows! They were fighting with the marshmallows. The marshmallows were winning.

MMOS From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - This follows the marshmallow model of softness first proposed by R Lee Ermey in first describing some grabastic motards he had his eye on, and was later adopted by the Big12 conference without modification as a scheduling template.

Only question is when the debate will stop. With that I will exit.)

Sorry, it was a joke but italics felt a bit too blatant. I just wanted to post a counter argument, after counting, then state that I wasn't counting despite it being the wrong word from the outset, further continuing your joke.

All that to say, I must've failed.

Hamlin is a really tough one to peg. I still think we lead, but will we lead 2 months from now? How about a week from now? We're on him like white on rice but so is Pitt.

Tell you what... with all of these guys, I think bowl season really matters. If we can upset Ohio State I think we will close VERY strong. If we don't and other teams do well, I'm not sure what happens with the rest of the class.

I agree that the bowl result will greatly impact how ND finishes off what is a pretty good class. A win hopefully tips a couple guys our way, but as others have stated, you can't expect to win every battle. A bowl win also sets the team up well for 2016, and that also will pay dividends to the 2017 class.

Less excited now that I realize it's a joke!!!

Then, if LAX was correct in another thread, he said that there were 2 silents not counting Pride. If Loy is right, then which of those 2 would it be? Jones and McKinnley? And how good are any chances with Kelly/Fuller? Are we still looking at Morris? And finally, I am curious to see if there is any late players that get offers? It seems, on that last comment, that our depth would mean we are better giving a 5th year to a player that has been around and knows the system vs taking a flier on a player late in the process. Seems that the graduate transfers are options as well to fill any open scholies.

I'll update thread tonight, some notes on the front page definitely need a change. It's important to remember with silents that what it means is that the prospect has indicated to the coaches they plan on coming. That's all. That can change at any time, and the reason for not announcing publicly can vary from player to player.

Studstill was actually a silent for a LONG time but with him still planning on taking visits to Texas, etc. I wasn't going to put him as a "lock"... but someone on Pride should've been bumped up a week ago when he set a date, I just thought I already had and forgot to.

Hope that clears some things up and Merry Christmas!

This was posted in Shark's thread:
Per Loy, supposedly going to be a signing day decision

So if LAX and Loy are correct we can deduce who the two silents might be, but as LAX noted, silents are not binding.

So now that ND landed Pride does this mean they are full at DB or only CB. Are they still looking for another safety?

Only guy with a potential shot of joining the class as a DB would be Fuller now.

I'm hoping for more defense:

1) Kelly
2) McCulloch
3) Jones

In that order. Thinking (hoping) we are still in good shape for McKinley.

assuming we keep all verbals...sign me up for that finish right now!

I think that finish is really a possibility. I still wouldn't be surprised if ND ends up landing Caleb Kelly. He comes from a good background and he seems like a Notre Dame kid. In years passed fresno kids like Micah Quick I never saw ND in them. I think a win over Ohio state in the bowl game could go a long way in landing Caleb, even if we lose we could still land him. There is a lot of playing time available at the LB positions. Also Caleb's mom and aunt are pretty high on ND as well.

So one thing I'm curious on is why certain people think McCulloch is coming to ND. Emphasis on the why, not saying they're wrong, I'm just wondering where they get the optimism from. ND coaches? Sources close to McCulloch? Because from the Texas side of things they consider their main threat Texas A&M. I don't know anyone who knows anything from a Texas A&M point of view, but reading what their professionals say publicly they don't seem to really consider the possibility of him going to ND either.

So, IMO, one of two things is happening:
1) McCulloch isn't seriously considering Notre Dame but says enough good things to our side that there is false confidence.
2) The Texas sources are too insulated and ingrained to think he's not leaving the state, so they're blind to the fact that he's very intrigued with Notre Dame.

I've always been inclined to believe the former but it could certainly be the latter.

Idk. A&M and Texas are both dumpster fires right now and they are probably only in the race because they are the in-state schools. My confidence in McCulloch going to ND has declined a bit but Loy and Steve (who I trust more than anyone in the business) seem to think Notre Dame has a great shot. As Steve has said a few times now, he better have a good excuse for his mom if he doesn't pick Notre Dame

1. His mother has clearly given Wiltfong some priceless quotes. Could those mean nothing, sure but I don't see his family as doing that.

2. 4.0 student who genuinely cares about academics, great fit. Mother has mentioned religion multiple times.

3. Texas schools, which are really the only other schools under consideration are dumpster fires.

4. This isn't out of nowhere, he's been recruited hard by the staff for a long time. Going back to last summer.

With that said, I did believe ND was goin to be the choice if he announced at the UA game. Since he pushed it back that tempers my enthusiasm a bit.

So CJ and Will leaving....assumed in the 24 available on page 1? Stanley I am pretty sure was.

Are waiting on KVR (whose twitter bio is pointing to return) and Jaylon to decided? Any others potentially? I assume Jaylon leaving was figured into the 24...was KVR? I think it was assumed at the beginning of the year, but as things went on and he wasn't having that great a year, I do not know if it was still pretty sure he was gone or not

EDIT: KVR to NFL after all...still waiting on Jaylon
