McKinley doesn't start day one unless he's an absolute freak and he's mastered the other things on top of being a physical specimen - route running, blocking, etc.

We have some hungry guys waiting in the wings. I just hope he comes here to give us even more competition.

I don't know if he starts from day one. I don't think that is important anyways.

What I can tell you is he's an INCREDIBLE blocker. You will find him locking up guys in the run game and better yet, he'll be 40 yards down field blasting DB's for the other WR's.

Here is something else that separates him from other All Americans. He made 3 KO tackles on Sean McGrew who is regarded as the fastest HS player in California. Mike Anello style tackles btw. No prima donna here.

He sounds like just the kind of player we need, clearing lanes for Adams and catching the ball downfield. Hope this kid picks the good guys.

Rodney Pete said he's the second coming of Dez Bryant on the HS school playoff show last week. I hope he meant on the field, when happy and healthy. :)

To me, I'll say offensively he's Laquon Treadwell with Chris Brown's blocking.

Per Rivals, Javon's mother was in Texas for her job, a work conference, and she "bumped" into Sanford while he was recruiting in Texas. Coincidence or not, what a way to get another sales pitch in. And while that was taking place Denborck was with Javon in Cali. Gotta give this staff credit, they've used this time very wisely, it seems, and have worked incredibly hard.

Lol I'd be pissed if it was a Washington coach that just so happened to "bump" into his mom at a conference in Texas.

We hammered on Saban for "bumping" into a recruit in LA last year.

FWIW, Biggins just added to this. UCLA canceled as they landed 2 silents. One possibly/probably Alloway but because of Alloway's back and forth he's not sure it sticks

IIRC, Saban "bumped" into the teenage recruit personally, not his parent. Big difference.

Yea, assistants can have unlimited contact during these periods where HC's can have 1. So any "bump" after one for the HC is illegal.

again its a live recruiting period..

Yup, no need to come up with an excuse to "bump into" anyone.

Ya'll just need to quit letting the actual rules get in the way of my feaux-outrage at our hypocrisy.

Would hate to miss on Alloway, but would love to get McKinley between the two. Maybe I'll eat those words in the future.

Some people think McKinley is a bust. I, personally, thought Alloway's junior highlights were hilariously bad for highly rated he is, and said as much in his thread. I don't California skill position players under any circumstance, and especially don't want them if they don't show something special on film.

(CJ Sanders doesn't count, because he was really from Tennessee).

Just like Reggie Bush's parent lived in the home. Maybe a stretch of an analogy, but my point is simply this wasn't a coincidence even if it's a live period and it's an AC not the HC.

I don't think anyone was upset about Saban's "bumping" into that recruit being intentional, so much as that contact was a recruiting violation. Sanford bumping into McKinley's mom, intentional or not, isn't a violation, so it's still not a relevant comparison.

First let me say... You are easily in my Top 5 most respected posters but I've gotta admit, you've got my head spinning right now.

You didn't want ESB? He didn't have great film or stats.

What about JuJu Smith, Adoree Jackson, Royce Freeman, Joe Mixon? You didn't want any of those guys either? Besides Mckinley this year how about Tyler Vaughn, Jackie Jones, Theo Howard, David Long, Dylan Crawford from this class... nobody?

I'm not trying to call you out by asking you this but who thinks McKinley is (or will be) a bust? I've never read or heard that and I'm interested to read their thoughts and try to understand what they are or are not seeing in his game. I'm not going to say he'll without a doubt be the next Michael Floyd but I'm pretty confident his floor is Chris Brown of '15 and '16. That's worth a scholarship at least.

Not speaking for LAX, but we do not have the best track record with recruiting/retaining skill position players from California, especially SoCal. Cierre Wood, I guess. And potentially CJ and ESB. But other than that it's been awhile since we've had difference-makers from out there, despite a lot of effort.
That said, McKinley seems like a no-brainer. Honestly if he's anywhere close to as good as advertised I don't understand why USC and UCLA aren't all over the guy. Would be thrilled to land him.

Yeah, my post was dumb. Or I should say phrased poorly. There are an awful lot of California skill position players that I think are absolute must takes and turn out to be great. And I actually really like McKinley. I do not like Alloway at all. Never have, never will.

What I was more trying to get at is that ND has had a pretty low success rate recently with California players meeting expectations. If someone shows something special, then I definitely still want them... but guys like Alloway that look very "meh" on film are a hard pass for me. Would rather we gamble on someone from a non-hotbed kind of place that might be under-scouted or under-developed.

Adam Gorney was on BGI podcast. Said as of now it'll be Oregon or ND. Seems to have a lot more traction at Oregon than I thought. Apparently has a lot of friends there and loved the visit and they'll be a serious threat.

because USC have the #28 overall player# 4 wr and #42 overall #7 wr who are ranked Higher than Javon (according to rivals i didn't look up composite or 247) who are in the same exact mold as javon...they committed early also

UCLA has several commits as well in the same mold as him...not as highly rated but how often has ND taken a commit when there were HIGHER rated ones...its what fits their system etc

I mostly agree with you. As far as Alloway goes, he is definitely fast but that's really the only thing that all impressed me on his film. I'd take him if we somehow ended up with an extra spot in the class or if the coaching staff really thought it was a huge position of need.

I understand the USC location is hard to beat and the women, but how can USC keep pulling these top level athletes when they see Kelly do more with less here in South Bend.

Fuller was something like the #143 best WR (I think that number is correct). Give Kelly a Juju or Agholar or Adoree and I seriously believe he'd be torching teams. Any quality receiver he's had, he's used them to their utmost.

Floyd, Eifert, TJ Jones/Riddick, Fuller and we've managed to have a quality run game most years, sometimes top-25 in production. We have a top OL to block for them as well. I really hope we can swing Demetris this way, he's our one chance at that type of speed.

They put WR's into the league. Just the last three years that have 2 2nd rounders and a 1st rounder. JuJu will probably be right there as well next year.
