Cowerd loves USC and can't speak objectively about them. Wouldn't surprise me if he made that up to hype up the program/recruits.

seems like a decision that is made for the short term. keep the existing roster happy and hold onto the recruiting class. i guess haden does not have time to see a program rebuild again.

no there were some whispers that Jeff Fischer was interested because he sees the writing on the wall with Rams.

I don tknow if that is who Cowturd was talking about but those whispers did exist a lil just due to Jeff being a USC guy.

He's a good coach and a good guy. He is not an A-List coach that is going to instantly take USC over the top.

Can anyone imagine Harbaugh at USC? Good god...

Wait is this for real?

Horrible decision. Absolutely horrible.

If they had won out I could understand it more but they got their asses kicked by Oregon.

USC really couldn't go out and grab a bigger name with a proven record?

Perhaps Haden is gun-shy of a "Big Splash" hire going bad again after Sark, and is playing it overly-safe now.

Also, if Foster really is staying on as DC, Fuente at VT will be terrifying in two or three years. Perhaps immediately depending on their QB development.

And lost to ND... which means somehow projecting towards 8-4 with 2 score losses to two out of three rivals is now acceptable for USC.

They are such a far cry from those Bama-esque Carroll teams that were just player-for-player better than whoever they were playing. The only way you beat those teams were flukes.

Yet Pete Carroll got the job with no college football head coaching experience, just got fired by New England and started his USC career with a 6-6 season.

I'm sure that kind of "sure bet" would be applauded now, right?

I completely forgot he was the coach for our game too. I get that maybe this is just a 1 year temporary hire but who are they waiting for? There's no way Chip was like "I just need one year to fix things in Philadelphia then I'll come to USC." What happens if he does right the ship?

Oh, I'm not saying that USC needed to make a "sure thing" hire like Saban was coming from the Dolphins, or Meyer was headed to OSU. And I'm certainly not saying Helton can't win there.

I'm saying that Helton is a known quantity. He's spent the last 5 years at USC, the last 4 coordinating their offense to some degree. With all of the talent in the world, they finished 38th, 28th, 27th, and 10th in those years... progressively better, not nearly as good as they really should be. For reference, Notre Dame with Rees/Golson at QB finished 12th, 20th, and 20th... so better than USC every year.

He's basically BVG when it comes to under-production. People find this year's 40th ranked defense unacceptable because of the "talent" on that side of the ball, so why would anyone find a 30th ranked offense at USC with all of that talent good enough?

There is no way to look at this hire and think it is as good as potential alternatives like Whittingham (does much more with much less) or Chip Kelly or any other marquee name. The last 3 USC hires have all been guys with obvious flaws/unimpressive track records, and hoping to recapture Pete Carroll magic is akin to pointing to an exception and expecting it to be the norm.

I'd be scared shitless if they actually pulled in an A-List coach or even a Larry Fedora type, but instead I look at this hire and go "there is no excuse for Notre Dame to not continue beating this team with that guy at the helm."

Tom Herman tells @Joseph_Duarte that he has agreed in principle to stay at Houston The Scoop

The Gamecock fans are freaking out. They thought they had Herman but they didn't. Then they thought Kirby Smart was all theirs - now they think he will be the guy at GA.

Columbia is melting down...

Herman is going to wait for a Tier 1 opening. I could definitely see him being ND's next coach depending on how things shake out with Kelly.

I'm not calling for Kelly's head by any means, but I would be Totally ok with that swap. As long as it was cantigent on BVG hitting the streets

You are probably correct, but he will never be hotter than he is now coming off his seasons at tOSU last year and the big year he has had at Houston. He should cash in now - whether that is his raise at Houston or squeezing some big bucks out of one of the open jobs.

Herman's name is being tossed around as a potential replacement for Richt at jawja.

Exactly. If you're Herman, you get as much of a big $$ extension from Houston as you can, and then you simultaneously try to land a gig like Georgia, etc.

That's what Sumlin did as well. Can't imagine Herman not landing in one of the premier openings.

I wonder how many NFL openings there will be this year. And would BK get a look from some teams with openings? If he leaves we would really be behind the eight ball.
