Lion, have you had any game crashes with Battlefront? I've had a few and they all seem to come when I'm playing out of my mind. I was at 21:1 in Supremacy with a turret on the defensive control point and a kill streak with Skywalker and the whole thing locked up.

Just got Fallout 4 but haven't started it as I'm at my mother-in-law's for the weekend. It came with a free copy of Fallout 3. Should I rip through a main-quest-only playthrough of FO3 before I dive into 4 or just go for it? Any tips on a build? I'm thinking Charisma and Intelligence.

Well, it is all fantasy so you might as well pretend you are smart and well liked.

For Fallout 4 I would look at available perks and decide which ones work best for the kind of character you want to be. If you want to be a Sniper, Perception would be a good place to start. If you want to Melee, Strength and Endurance are both musts. If you prefer to Stealth a lot you'll probably want high Agility. Charisma helps with dialogue options and affects the number of people you can recruit in a settlement. If you want to exploit the Idiot Savant perk you'll want points in Luck, but you'll also want to decide how much Intelligence you can live without as the perk works best when your Int is low (Although people say it works fine too with higher Int). I've got both a Sniper and an idiot Hulk type, and both characters are fun and excel in combat. Just keep in mind that no build is wrong really, you can be successful no matter where you put your points. The points just decide what perks you can start getting right away, but that doesn't mean you can't boost stats as you level.

As far as Fallout 3, it's not required to play it before 4. There are a few references to 3 in the new game, but they're mostly just little nods to the predecessor and not important. If you're going to play 3 I would play it all the way through to enjoy it. Much like the Elder Scrolls games, the Fallout main quest line is actually rather short. It's the side quests and exploration that really make the game worthwhile.

Here's some of my favorite perks so far:

Rooted: Very useful for melee characters. The extra damage is nice, but the damage resistance is especially important as you cleave baddies in front of you that are firing with automatic weapons. A few points in this and I'm laughing as raider bullets bounce off my skin.

Rifleman: Very useful for the Snipers out there, although the same can be said to any of the damage enhance skills, like Big Leagues/Iron Fist (The 5th level of Big Leagues with the Grand Slam option is hilarious). I like Rifleman though, because Sniper rifles already have high damage, so you see nice gains from this skill. The ignored armor bonus is pretty nice against dudes in Power Armor.

I find I don't use VATs much with my Sniper, but when I do the Sniper/Concentrated Fire perks are pretty nice. I find it's best to save Action Points at the start of a fight though, taking head shots from a distance and then falling back to VATs if things get hairy.

The 3rd level of Lifegiver is good, if only for the auto health regeneration which you can get as early as 20.

The 2nd level of Aquaboy is fairly worthless, but the first level allows you to breathe underwather indefinitely and you take no radiation when walking/swimming. Pretty damn handy for just 1 point.

Solar Powered: the stat bonuses are nice, but level 2 allows the Sun to remove radiation, and level 3 regenerates lost health while in the Sun. Free healing is always nice when you're far from a bed, especially on Survival mode.

Local Leader: Pretty much a must have if you plan on doing the Minutemen settlement quests. If not, skip it.

Inspirational: The first two levels are handy, the 3rd level is helpful but not necessary.

Gun Nut: Even if you're a melee character, Gun Nut can be nice for building Turrets in your Settlements (Not required for the basic Turret though) and for building guns for companions. Keep in mind that you may need Science for some of these two.

Nuclear Physicist: Handy for the extra Fusion Core length, but the extra damage for Radiation weapons is particularly nice for just 1 point, and being able to eject Fusion Cores from other Power Armors can shorten fights if you can make it happen.

Nerd Rage: Hulk SMASH! Haven't gotten it yet, but looks to be overpowered when it procs.

Ninja: A must if you're a Stealth character. One shot Stealth kills are sweet.

Scrounger: Unlike previous games, everyone I've talked to has found this perk to be very useful in Fallout 4. I just got it recently, so I can't say one way or the other how I feel personally.

Idiot Savant: Everyone seems to like this one, although the sound effect when it procs can get annoying after awhile (Someone already has a mod out to remove the sound effect if you're on PC).

Grim Reaper's Spirit: If you use VATs a lot, this one is a nice perk to have all 3 levels in. Pointless if you don't use VATs though.

Ricochet: Another one I don't have yet, but 1-2 points in it looks really good from what I've seen. Downside is you need to be low on health to really see it come up often.

Scrapper: If you're picking up everything then this perk won't be as useful, but the extra Copper alone is helpful for Settlement building cause you go through a damn lot of Copper.

Those are just some of the ones I've used personally, or they're perks friends have tested. Plenty of other great perks out there. Some are no brainers, like Armorer, that's almost a given though. If you're Melee you'll obviously want Blacksmith for the same reasons as Gun Nut was listed, and it might be good to have anyway if you run with a character that prefers melee, like Cait.

I had two crashes where it locked up in the first week, but I haven't had any issues recently.

I had a 29:4 going in Supremacy yesterday but had to exit early to finish Thanksgiving prep. That was a bummer.

Also, I suck playing as heroes. I think I need to play the Hero Hunt to get better lol.

Play heroes vs villains. That will help you get better. Hero hunt sucks IMO. You on PS or XB?

You can't go wrong with any stat setup really, but I wouldn't start on Survival mode or anything. Your typical combat related stats are lower, which is fine for normal mode. You'll be able to talk your way out of some situations, and you can always boost stats later. What kind of character do you plan on building, what kind of weapons do you plan on using?

I would check the perk list first just to make sure there's no perks that you'd want early on that you don't have access to. If there are any perks you want that are beyond your current stats, you'll need to boost those stats to get access to them eventually. The Armorer one is helpful and comes to mind, although if you're a Sniper then armor isn't as important. Getting a point or two in Lockpicking early on can be nice too, lots of Advance and Expert safes out there with goodies, not as many Master level ones. Then again, if you have Cait as a companion she can always pick Advance and Expert safes for you.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate. It's a much better outing than last year's disaster with Unity.

100% agree. I picked it up at Target on BF for $35. The story alone, is just so much better than Unity. The new gameplay mechanic with the rope launcher/zip line is a great addition. Very happy with it so far, especially compared to last years installment.

Yeah I kind of plan on doing a charismatic sniper. Lots of focus on companions and settlements. Avoid combat as much as possible. If that fails, snipe. Hopefully the situations where neither of those are options are infrequent enough that I can get through them with power armor.

Sounds good, your build is very similar to the one I took for my own. You may want to build Perception over time to support your shooting ability. It's not required, but it'll help. The Sniper perk levels at Tier 7 are handy, and I would take the Rifleman perks anytime they're available as long as you're using single shot rifles and not automatics. If you plan on using VATs at all, Concentrated Fire is very nice, as long as you have enough Action Points for more than 1 shot. For my Sniper I typically use a scope, non-VATs, for my long shots, and if anything charges me I'll fall back to VATs and use a Shotgun at close range because it still has the damage bonuses from Rifleman it seems. I haven't used Penetrator yet.

I started out with a .38 Pipe Rifle and modded it out completely, upgrading the Gun Nut Perk whenever it was available. The .38 Pipe Rifle can be surprisingly effective, even on Survival mode, if you're taking head shots on Raiders at a far distance. If you have a decent scope, a long barrel, and the strongest receiver you can build then you should be able to one shot most normal humans in the head and you'll save on bullets big time. In the event you're fighting something tougher, often times I'm so far away that they run around looking for me and can never spot me. For close quarter battles I try to setup ambushes, picking off NPCs and then falling back or relying on that Shotgun or an SMG to finish off the rest that come searching. Once you start facing Super Mutants and tougher characters, you'll probably start finding more .45 caliber weapons and bullets, that would be a good time to upgrade a Combat Rifle to be your next Sniper weapon. Eventually a .308 or .50 Sniper will be nice if you have amassed enough of the bullets. There's a nice unique .45 Combat Rifle called the Overseer's Guardian in Vault 81. You have to buy it off a vendor, but it's pretty handy (Shoots two projectiles for every shot taken) whether you use it as a Sniper or an SMG/Automatic Rifle. I use it as an SMG when I get bum rushed indoors, and I keep another .45 for long shots. Another good Sniper weapon can be a modded Laser Musket. You have to hand crank the receiver to charge it, and depending on how many charges the receiver can hold you can do 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or 6x the damage with each shot! You'll use an extra charge of ammo for every crank though, and Cell ammo is harder to find than .38 or .45, so keep that in mind. I've got a very nice legendary Laser Musket that automatically does double damage to enemies if they're at full health, it's every Sniper's dream.

The first two levels of Cap Collector are very helpful for buying those expensive uniques and legendary items off vendors, they really help drive down prices in conjunction with your Charisma skill. Scrounger is pretty nice to have too, to help keep your bullet supply up. I've noticed that it seems to work particularly well with harder to find rounds, like .50 Sniper rounds, .308, Cells, etc.

One feature that I feel is missing from Fallout is online settlement management. I think the combat, RPG, and crafting systems all work just fine on the console, but settlement building would really benefit from a point-and-click interface. Disney Infinity does this very well with platform agnostic toy boxes that you can build on your PC, upload to their cloud, and then other users can download it regardless of their device. It would also be a nice way to let users interact with the game world without being actively playing. Battlefront does this well with their mobile / online game "Base Command," which earns you in-game currency. I think Bethesda missed an opportunity by treating the game like a game only and not as a platform.

I've bought 2 PS4 games so far and both were OK. Metal Gear was what I expected but I don't love it like the earlier MG games. COD Black OPs 3 has a really cool but difficult Zombie Map.

Is Fallout 4 a 'story mode' game or an online type? I want a story mode game I can actually get into.

I was just going to come here yesterday and talk about how I wanted Fallout 4, but didn't think I could justify another time sink to go along with Syndicate, Battlefront, and our seemingly-immortal NCAA14 dynasty.

Then on our way home from work, my wife stops at Target to pick up her online orders from Cyber Monday. She got me Fallout 4. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and spend more time on the XB1 now.

Story mode. 100% offline single-player. It's Skryim with guns.

I've convinced my wife to "play along" with me during Fallout. She watches during the combat parts and then I take her input in dialog. Buys me lots of time.

I'm f'ing all over the place with my new PS4. Started playing Battefront. Next day I started FO4. Then I saw some promotion for Walking Dead Season 1 free for a week so I played that before it expired. Then my mom kindly bought me the Witcher 3 because she loves me and I drove home for Thanksgiving. I started that too.

FIFA is just sitting there and will probably be played tonight. LOL

Haha I have this problem with Madden 16.

I bought it in September thinking I would start a Franchise with a Fantasy Draft, and that I'd play against other users weekly online at the very least. But I got married and had a honeymoon in October, then got Syndicate on sale, then Battlefront dropped, and now I have Fallout. Madden just keeps getting moved down the shelf lol.

FIFA for me. I got FIFA and Gears with the console but sold Gears, so it was all FIFA for a few days. Then I got Shadow of Mordor cheap and played that for a few days until Battlefront came out. Now it's Battlefront and Fallout.

Probably a missed opportunity, but I always suggest that Fallout/Elder Scrolls games be played on the PC versions anyway when possible, if for no other reason than the fact the modding community is fantastic. I know mods are going to be available to the PS4 and XB1 versions this time around, but there's already hundreds of mods out there for PC that the consoles may never see because they're dirty fixes and higher resolution texture alterations. I definitely prefer doing settlement building on my PC copy, using a mouse is much more intuitive than a controller.

I liked Skyrim but never finished it. I think I got my rank up to 32 and that's it.

Some players like playing both franchises, some prefer one or the other. I know ACamp didn't care for Fallout 3 the first time around, but I've got a buddy that didn't even get through more than a few nights of Skyrim before he put it down. That same guy plays the hell out of Fallout though, well over 100 hours in the game already. These games are heavy story based, and to fully enjoy them I think you have to immerse yourself in the game and treat it like an RPG. If you approach games like Fallout/Elder Scrolls as a hack and slash or FPS game then you probably won't enjoy it.

I approach these games two different ways. The first way usually involves playing on a challenging setting and just building the best character possible while trying to survive. The second is more RPG focused, building a character that's more limited but plays a role. For example, one of my Fallout characters is basically a Hulk. His Strength and Endurance are maxed, but as a result he's completely devoid of Charisma and Intelligence. Lacking Intelligence really limits the options available to your character, but part of the fun is finding alternative solutions to problems. If a situation requires wits, my character basically has to walk away or call on a companion to assist, such as when a terminal needs hacked. Likewise I have a Sniper character that is physically weak. I had to take part in a bar fight for a quest last night, but I found my lack of Strength and Endurance made it tough to survive, so I had to change strategies and take quick cheap shots when I could while using my Agility to evade the enemy. I made similar characters in Skyrim, like a Mage that refused to use melee weapons or wouldn't open a lock unless it was with a spell, or a brute that was incapable of using magic. I find the game much more enjoyable if I become these characters and try to react to situations as they would, rather than take the easiest solution that doesn't fit their persona.

I'm also thinking about grabbing the Definitive Edition of the first new-gen Tomb Raider game just to store it for a rainy day.

I saw it on sale for $10, so I looked at reviews, and apparently it was a really good game lol. I'd like to play it at some point and then pick up the new one whenever the price starts dropping.

I was a huge Tomb Raider fan when I was younger, but I was also a bit too young to figure out the harder puzzles later in the games. Still loved the first few levels of Tomb Raider II.

Yeah, I saw the new one was on sale a few days ago on Steam. I bought it the last time it was on sale and played it over the course of a few nights, wasn't a long game, but I think you would get your money's worth for $10. It was pretty fun. I never played more than a demo worth of the old Tomb Raider games, but I liked the climbing/jumping/platforming aspect in the new game. The story was decent, visuals were good, weapon crafting was nice.
