At least OU didn't win a blowout. 30-13 looks much better than 30-29, though it's still a solid win for Oklahoma nonetheless.

We'll know our destiny on Tuesday. If OU doesn't jump us then, they're not going to. A road win against a higher-ranked Stanford team would be enough for ND to hold off OU beating OK ST.

I hope I'm wrong but I think they jump us on Tuesday. We shit the bed tonight and I think it's going to cost us big time.

I THINK the Irish are in the clear with a win next week. Let's be real... ND played bad and won. It is what it is. Still pummeled the team that beat OU.

A really great bonus, OU's decent wins have come against 2nd and 3rd string quarterbacks.

I think the resumes will be pretty well identical if both win next week and that loss to UT-A will start sticking out.

We control our destiny:

We control our destiny:

Next week I believe we will see a ND higher ranked than OU, and we will be playing a Stanford ranked higher than OU opponent OSU.

All things considered I don't think we can be jumped given that likely scenario.

It's probably still B1G Champ, SEC Champ, hopefully us, and Clemson. It would be great if the B1G was left out of it, in the case where Oklahoma makes it in, but as long as we get in it's fine. With all these injuries it's not very comforting going into bowl season, and next week is definitely going to be tough.

Oklahoma will jump us. If we hadn't shit the bed vs BC we probably would have stayed ahead but we probably won't now.

Sparty or Iowa will finish ahead of us. Bama and Clemson will too. Our best bet is Oklahoma St. beating Oklahoma next week. Unless we paste Stanford (very unlikely), I don't see us finishing ahead of Oklahoma, should they win out.

Tonight's game will have a detrimental effect on our playoff chances.

I'll worry about how/if we get in after the Stanford game. There is no reason to stress about getting in if we don't win that game.

I'm going to qualify this a bunch but I'm going on record that a one loss Oklahoma is going to the playoffs over us assuming:

1) Baylor, TCU, and Oklahoma St. do not lose any games to teams outside of each other and
2) Pitt does not win the ACC and
3) Stanford does not win the Pac-12

I know that's a lot of qualifiers but in that scenario I think Oklahoma deserves to get in ahead of us easily. They would have 3 better wins than us IMO.

I knew literally one month ago lol. October 24th. Sigh.

Also don't think they "deserve it" anymore.
Wrong about BK though so I still suck.

You're a homey.
Glad to hear you're rethinking BK.

You serve as a sample product for our fanbase.

I think we'll lose him soon enough.

The path is pretty simple at this point. Beat Stanford, hope OU loses to OKST. There is no other path. The B1G is getting a team in, let that dream go. SEC winner will get in, as will the ACC winner. Better hope it's Clemson, because if they lose to UNC, we could beat Stanford by 100 and still be left out.

So just hope for the best at this point. Beat Stanford, hope OU loses. I'm disappointed but am not angry. We brought this situation on ourselves.

I think we take Stanford to the woodshed like we did against ga tech and get in.

Completely agree....but As goofy as it sounds, if we win by more than okla does we can jump them.

This is the most simple way for us to get in. Obviously we could have a chance if we blow out Stanford and get some breaks with our SOS (Pitt/USC winning this week and being ranked), but it seems unlikely we jump an 11-1 OU.

Other paths to the top-4:

B1G
--Iowa (1.5) loses Nebraska then beats MSU next week.
--MSU (no line) loses to PSU. The winner of OSU/UM beats Iowa next week
SEC
--Bama (-13) loses to Auburn...then either they or Ole Miss beat Florida next week.
--Florida loses to FSU this week then beats Bama next week.
ACC
--Maybe if UNC (-6) loses to NC State this week then beats Clemson next week? They could go ND>Clemson but probably not.

When I mentioned joining the ACC earlier in this thread...

Are you really a Notre Dame student? Learn a thing or two about your school and its traditions before you fling crap like that. That's the kind of thing that ND football fans throw around, but students and alumni should know better.

Ok, so we aren't going to join the ACC. Then I mentioned moving to an 8 team playoff...

We'd be having the exact same argument. Debating about who gets in among the 4th, 5th, and 6th teams in the country is no better or worse than debating about who gets in among the 8th, 9th, and 10th teams in the country.

A few points: (1) debating about who gets in at 8/9/10 is better than 4/5/6, because the odds of the best team being in the top 8 is considerably higher than it being in the top 4. (2) a 1 loss ND team (and maybe even a 2 loss ND team) would be in an 8 team playoff every time. It's so obviously better for ND than the current system.

Fans want to blame the drop entirely on us, but we could very easily have been dropped even if we had covered against BC, or even if OU won out and we did too- as everyone has been saying for weeks here! The 8 team playoff is the only way to fix the problem of having the 5 conferences and then us fighting for 4 slots.

The real reason we dropped is the Trojans sucking big time against Oregon. If they won that game, we'd be sitting with 3 top 25 wins and almost surely still in at least the #4 spot... likely #3.

We effectively lost a quality win by them losing that game. And Stanford also got devalued by Oregon, so fuck Oregon.

The problem is that most people refused to believe USC was a mediocre team because the metrics said they weren't. Losses (2 of them before they even played us) don't lie while metrics might.

To be honest, if USC had 1 loss and was in the top ten, but Navy was 2-9 and Temple 3-8, we would be in a better position right now. One big win obviously carries more weight than a few rinky dink ones.

Agree wholeheartedly that Oregon beating Stanford and USC the last two weeks hurt us. Another thing that hurt us is playing below expectations the last two weeks. Obviously if we do that again this week we're screwed. But hoping this ranking lights a fire under the boys.
Because if we beat Stanford the only thing that needs to happen is Okie State beating OSU. And if we beat Stanford impressively, maybe not even that. We may not "control our own destiny," but we can certainly influence it just like we did the last two weeks.

Probably true. That's why I've been saying we need 1-2 great wins and then it doesn't matter much. Just go undefeated.

Yep. Also Navy could finish in the top ten by season's end but people will be more impressed with a win over a 20th-ranked Okie State or Ole Miss.

The ACC/Big 12 model.

Seriously. I don't think we should join the ACC but if we had we'd be 10-1, likely with a win over FSU and a rematch coming against Clemson for a playoff spot. Better than rooting for goddamn Oklahoma State.
