IMO odds are very low this player will ever play at QB for ND.....nothing personal there , I mean he seems like a great kid and very smart. But I don't get this offer at all....this class will be Kelly's lowest ranked group as we roll into years 5 & 6 , not a good sign in my view.

Was reading back through this thread and found this gem. This class could be the best Kelly has ever had in his entire career.

Odds are slim that it is better than the 2013 class. Of course 2 of the 5 stars from that class in Vanderdoes and Bryant aren't on the roster anymore but it still was a borderline top 5 class.

I said could be ;)

Obviously it could not be, but it sure seems it will not be the worst in Kelly's ND years.

Also, I never included Vanderdoes in that class, so that knocks it down a little more.

I am just so impressed with this kid watching his senior highlights. Seriously. I'm not trying to blow the usual smoke of "oh he's underrated cause he's committed to us," but more that I wouldn't have any clue who this kid is and yet he seems to do everything right as a quarterback. I think he has just about everything except maybe ideal size and mechanics on long throws.

I also try not to praise the new coaches so much either because they haven't even been here for an entire year, but if this is an all Sanford find, color me impressed.

Not bad for a "not elite", "glue" guy or whatever else the naysayers on this site say. Thumbs up young man!

He takes a while to "wind up", but Sanford can correct that. I liked his runs up the middle. MLB had to stop and pick up their jock strap more than once.

He does on the bombs which is expected....but watch the play action ones...it comes out quick

PS with all this "glue" talk, I'm pretty sure everyone considered Deshone Kizer just a step above that. Many thought he would never start, and now? Wowza. Ain't no such thing as a "glue guy".

To be fair, Kizer had the tangibles, so he had a chance to be a decent QB. That's a huge difference when comparing measurables.

I agree. Like I said, he was put a step above, and it was because of his height/size and body of work in high school. The comment stands regardless though. A majority of people did not think Kizer would see the field and would just be a quality back up.

I think the idea that we recruit guys who we have no intent on ever playing is fallacy. You recruit guys who you think can win. Sometimes they obviously look the part, and other times, not so much.

I think if you watch and breakdown Book's film, plus look at his stats 25TDs to 3INTs, you can tell we got a kid who can actually compete at this level.

It will be fun to see Ian play QB at ND. He has the look of Tate Forcier (let's just hope he doesn't have the attitude). He doesn't throw a ton of bombs down the field so I am unsure how he will be as a college QB overall.

Anyone see him moving to another position?

No. Not really.

IMO, he's a low risk but solid guy to add to the depth chart at ND. This class needed a guy that wouldn't be scared off or turned off by competition but would be able to win games provided he has to play. I think Book fits that very well.

Yeah, will be nice to have a stable QB that won't bolt after a year or two when they realize they aren't moving up the depth chart fast enough. Upgraded Evan Sharpely

Posted it in the NSD thread, but BK did a podcast where he basically stated that Book walks in as the 3rd QB on the depth chart. They want to preserve Wimbush's redshirt, and Book is a guy that can grasp the offense right away and operate things in case they need a "long reliever," and won't need to activate Wimbush.

Yea, I take that to mean they clearly view Wimbush as the future but he won't factor in much next season.

And to those that look at rankings, not having a top 10 QB is hurting this class but that's by design as Kelly stated. So another reason to take a slightly different view of this class.
