Found a "definitive" trailer for the original trilogy that uses the music and same general premise as the new Episode VII trailer. It's pretty sweet. Also, sorry if it's already been posted and I missed it.

Additionally, there is one quirk I can spot that was the only "liberty" the creator took. Can you spot it?

In the same vein as the many conspiracies/theories/educated-guesses from our ASoIaF thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/3qvj6w/theory_jar_jar_binks_was_a_trained_force_user/

My sister-in-law, who is a big Star Wars fan, linked that to me yesterday. It's a crazy theory, but it probably would have been a bigger surprise than the Darth Vader reveal in Empire if that whole thing was true. George isn't that much of a mastermind though, and I don't think he has the balls or forethought for that whole plot. It was still entertaining though and worth the read lol.

It is absolutely not true, but it's crazy how well it fits. I tried to think of evidence that may refute the points being made, but I honestly couldn't do it.

Perhaps somebody smarter can shoot it down with evidence.

The craziest thing to me was the subtle hints of extreme physical capabilities. I just chalked it up to Gungans being more physically gifted than humans, but the examples of JarJar being an athlete are actually hidden in plain site, rather than pronounced like you would think.

I would be pissed if goofy-ass JarJar ended up being that important, but it's still a neat theory.

I think the funniest part is the fact I've seen Jar Jar references posted by people all over the place in the last few months. People describing scenes where Kylo Ren takes the Vader mask from Endor, then Kylo takes his helmet off and says "Meesa gonna avenge you, Ani!" That made me crack up. Then there was this:

Lucas borrowed a ton of themes from other hero quest stories, and sci-fi, and this storyline is definitely out there.

I think that where the idea has plausibility is that Lucas wanted Jar Jar to be a central figure--maybe a force user--that was very different than people imagined. BUT people hated the character so much that he had to phase him out.

If he was a force user, Obi Wan and Qui Gon would have known it in TPM. End of story IMO.

Like they did with Palpatine? Doesn't the dark side make things hard to sense? And they did say something felt wrong about the whole thing...

In fact, I'm not even sure that they sensed Anakin had the force. I think Qui Jon pieced it together by all the coincidences and the kids's piloting/engineering skillz.

This, good points. Qui Gon did put the pieces together when he realized Anakin was the only human capable of running the pod racer without getting blown to bits. Not even sensing Palpatine was a Sith Lord was certainly a red flag that the Jedi were blind to what was going on.

I really hope Disney gets their hands on the original theatrical versions of IV, V and VI and remasters them for Blu Ray... I've said it before but the Jabba's Palace scene was one of the best 'dark' moments of the originals, the Lucas CGI redos turned that into a freaking cartoon scene that is basically worthless.

Unfortunately this will probably never happen "20th Century Fox has retained the rights to the first six movies. The original film, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, is theirs forever, and they'll own the final five films, Episodes I-III, V and VI, through May 2020."

Be honest , you're just upset that they edited out the Oola wardrobe malfunction on the last set of Blu-Rays.

He wrote these stories, all nine of them, over forty years ago, so I think he definitely had the balls and forethought.

But again, the reaction to JJ was so bad, it was probably scrapped. To say it is totally impossible to implausible, is not necessarily true nor accurate.

Think about the fact that he had the forethought to come up with an entire mythology that covers over fifty years, an entire universe and cast of characters while he was in his TWENTIES. Bash him all you want for being a sellout or whatever, but what he did was absolutely ballsy and WAY ahead of its time.

His ability to have that kind of forethought rivals Gates and Jobs, honestly.

I don't think so. Jar-Jar was supposed to die at the beginning of the 3rd act in Episode 1. Once the submarine thing Jar-Jar Qui Gon and Obi Wan take through the core surfaces, Qui Gon and Obi Wan get off but Jar-Jar is too clumsy and doesn't make it off in time. The ship gets pulled out into the bay and falls down a waterfall killing Jar-Jar. I don't know why the plan was changed :( but you can still find an animatic and a rough version of the shot on one of the special editions I believe. Anyways I doubt George would be considering killing him off during the first movie if he possibly had larger plans for the character.

Ewoks aside, VI is awesome. III, not so much, because it had too much lovey dovey bullshit that no one was buying, Grevious sucked, and...."Nooooooooo!!" Subsequently George decided to add the "Noooooo" to VI as well, bastardizing the original trilogy once again with his stupid meddling. Not to mentioning replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden at the very end, which was more bullshit.

No, what was BS, if you really think about it, is that Shaw was draped in Jedi clothing when he had spent most of his life as a Sith Lord. IF you wanted Anakin to be shown as a Jedi, then the only Anakin that was a Jedi was the young, rebellious one.

From a story standpoint, it makes more sense, but for a fan of the original trilogies, it just made people lose their minds...which I understand, having grown up with the original trilogy. Just seems very petty to get hung up on that bit of CGI, considering it dovetails nicely with the redemption of the young Anakin.

Was Jar Jar Binks Supposed to Die in STAR WARS? [Video] ~ The Geek Twins

This one was taken down or blocked now, but it clearly states that was not ever the intention to kill off Jar Jar, so it is still plausible. Not likely now, but still plausible.

I'll say this, it would explain why Dooku just shows up randomly in Episode 2 with no prior history. That always felt like a retcon move to me.

It's much much more likely that George Lucas is just bad at his job considering the rest of the movies though.

If you go back and watch the other trailer, isn't that Luke that reaches up to R2D2?

I'll have to go back and watch it again, but I believe that is him.

Supposedly we are lead to believe that this is Luke in that scene. From what I am being lead to believe through mere rumor is that Luke's role will supposedly be a shocker of some sort. I have no facts other than what I have read through fan boards and speculation so Do NOT TAKE IT AS GOSPEL.

I thought so too. Android hand reaching out comforting R2. He did have the typical Jedi clothing though, not the black one from RTOJ. I thought that totally was Luke.
