He's recruiting out of SouthEast Washington now, not West Texas. The regional talent pond is a hellava lot smaller. No fanatical HS football programs, no oil industry boosters. He's got the smallest stadium in the Pac-12 at 35K, 18K less than in Lubbock.

We'll see. He'll get into a lot more homes than a normal Wash St. coach would. Hell, if I was a three star recruit I'd listen to his pitch.

I'll be rooting for the pirate! Hopefully he does well , I hate how the TT crap went down. Basically if you don't pusify today's kids you are always one word or incident from being fired and that sucks.

If he can out recruit Washington in the state of Washington...that'd be impressive. He has to go out of state though because that won't happen considering the steam UW is picking up.

I'm sure he is friends with some high school coaches in Texas who would love to send their kids to him.

I agree with all that BGIF says about limitations. On the other hand, WSU has had a reputation for slinging the ball around in its heydays. And an old ability to recruit the "Pacific". That may well be enough for him to build a passing juggernaut in a short number of years. Sarkesian means trouble, but I'll bet that he establishes a presence in southern California too, and "keeps touch" with Texas.

WSU has had a couple of "franchise" players in Ryan Leaf and Jason Gesser and there was The Throwin' Samoan Jack Thompson and Mark Rypien. Nobody else comes to mind.

They've had some name coaches in Mark Price, Dennis Erickson, Jackie Sherrill, and Forest Evashevski but at a 0.631 Winning Percentage Evashevski was the only one to win more than 55% of his games. Price was 83-78 in 14 years with 3 - 10 Win seasons. With Leaf and Gesser Price had 3, of WSU's 5 - 10 Win seasons in 12 decades. In his other 11 seasons there he was 53-71 or 4.5-6.5. Not surprising considering WSU is 502-514 or 0.494 All-Time.

WSU has a losing record against all Pac 12 teams except OR St. Even Utah and Colorado have winning records against the Cougs. Of their 502 wins, 102 have come against Idaho and Montana. Montana is a Divison 1-AA school and Idaho was a 1-AA school for about two thirds of those wins.

Leach will have the Skull and Cross Bones flying over the Palouse but he'll be sailing a sloop not a man o' war. He'll snatch a prize now and then but he'll be outgunned most of the time and feast mainly on Div 1-AA carrion and 1-A pretenders like Idaho.

BGIF: you will eat crow my friend.

He is special.

I want a video posted showing you eating it, too.

Before the first bite, you have to take a deep look into the camera as if staring a thousand yards deeper and mention to viewers the following: Arr the pirate Johnnykillz; he shivered me old timbers.

Or I'll repay the favor.

Let's give him 4 years. Then that 3rd or 4th year, you dine or I dine.

;)

Just saw in the 4HL that a certain CB that shall remain nameless visited Wazzu this weekend.

I hope it works out for him. WSU seems to be the place to go if you have medical issues. I remember reading about Dervard Darling, the WR whose identical twin brother, about ten years ago, died on the practice field at FSU because of a heart problem and who was thereafter told he could no longer play college football. Darling transferred to WSU and ended up playing in the NFL.

how can you not love Mike Leach? Everytime a ranked team comes to Pullman its got Trap Game written all over it. He'll work those 3 star's and JUCO's and make it happen. Plenty of talent in CA for him to work with, it if worked for Boise State it can work for Wazzzzzzzzzzzu

JK,
I like Leach's results but I believe the location is the problem for the reasons enumerated. A number of good coaches have found Pullman to be a black hole.

Dublin raises the points of northern Cal talent pool. Well, that was there for Price, Sherrill, Erickson, and Evashevski as well and WSU has an All Time Winning Percentage below 50%

Dublin also raises the issue of Trap Game and Boise St. Trap games happen but not 12 games a season. As for BSU, yes, they've won some big bowl games but they don't play a schedule like ND does, OR like the PAC 12 does week in and week out.

In a previous post I mentioned WSU only has a winning record against one PAC 12 opponent, ORSt, who, btw, has won 6 of the last 8, and 8 of the last 12 years.

WSU's record against PAC 12 teams:

HTML:
PAC12 N	W	L	T
ORE 38	44	7
ORS 48	45	3
WAS 31	67	6
CAL 23	43	5
STA 25	36	1

PAC12 S
COL 3	4
UTAH	5	6
UAZ 13	25
ASU 13	23	2
USC 6	58	4
UCLA	19	38	1

WSU DOES catch a hugh break with the new PAC 12 alignment as face a 9 game schedule but only have to face Southern Cal every other year. They face OR, ORS, UW, CAL, and STAN annually plus 4 members of the PAC 12 South but only one of the CA team each year. This break is watered down a little as they don't face Utah and COL every year.

PAC 12 Scheduling
A nine-game conference schedule is being maintained, with five matches within the assigned division and four matches from the opposite division. The four California teams will play each other every season. Thus, the four non-California teams in each division will only play one of the two California teams from the opposite division each year, facing the same school every other year on average
.

I believe Leach faces a tougher schedule top to bottom BUT he may have caught another break. TT's NCAA Graduation Success Rate, GSR, is 69% but WSU's is only 60%. I expected it would be the other way around but it appears he may have more academic leeway in Pullman.

Now, JK about the crow eating. I mentioned Mrs BGIF's maiden name in another thread. Do you really think you're punishing me?

And no, there we'll be no video nor stills. Mrs. BGIF owns a 9 mill.

Best wishes to the Pirate Coach

Leach looks like the guy from the "Reality hits you hard bro" video.
