Went from 18 to 15 in the 247 rankings. I'm hoping we hit ~10 after USC.

Does anyone have any insight on how Vaughn does in man-to-man situations? I'm all for tall corners, but you have to put them in schemes that allow them to utilize their size and length. As currently constituted, I worry that our D is more suited to smaller, speedy corners like Coleman and Crawford than bigger guys like Vaughn and Devin Butler.

Nah, I was in the Eville outside of Mt. Vernon, just a hair away from Posey County.

Small world. Part of my family is from Dogtown, I have a lot of family out on the sw side off Broadway. Two sides of my family even have their family reunions at Burdette Park. 95% of my entire family lives within an hour of Eville.

This kid appears to be one of those kids, and I admit that he seems big, and well developed already, that has a lot of growing (maybe development) left to do before he even hits campus.

This looks like a definite 'high ceiling' situation to me! Good luck young man! And, Go Irish!

This may have already been asked but how is the level of competition that he plays. He has great size and seems fluid but doesn't look all to quick or fast. Is he projected to play CB or move to Safety?

Any scheme that involves man coverage can use tall corners with long reach.

Well hot d@mn, growing up in Southern Indiana on the border of Kentucky/Illinois, I always viewed Tennessee lumped in with us. I'll realign my mental map appropriately.

I grew up in north central Indiana (1hr NE of Indy), and I'd consider you part of Kentucky a.k.a. "the south", actually anything south of I 70 I consider Kentucky. :)

I got news for you, you were a hillybilly until you crossed the Kankakee. There are 92 counties in Indiana. All but four are the south. Trust me, they don't call me Crusader for nothing.

Scouting Report

Vaughn is a prospect that when you see him walking on the football field, you think outside linebacker on the high school level. He has size and length that you do not see in a cornerback very often. He plays both sides of the ball in high school, but he is expected to be all defense on the next level. Cornerback could be a position he gets a chance to play, but Scout likes him longterm as a safety.
He has very good range, he knows how to track the ball in the air, he is going to add good mass/strength to his long frame when he arrives in South Bend. There is still a chance he could line up at boundary corner for the Irish and he loves to play close to the line of scrimmage, use his length, and play press coverage, but he could outgrow that position and wind up being a big-time free safety.
Versatility makes him that much more valuable. He is not a quick-twitch athlete and he may not test off the charts, but he plays with good speed, he has shown the ability to run with wideouts, and his length is a real assett in coverage. He can work on his hips, his footwork in coverage, and his explosiveness.
What he will bring immediately is toughness, length, and someone who knows how to play hard. He plays for a great high school program and he is a smart football player. Look for Vaughn to compete for playing time on the field early. He has a lot of tools the Irish coaching staff will love working with.

Wouldn't mind that at all.
