Can decide who is worse, Pat of Flutie?

I only got the impression Haden rooted against us when SC was involved... I get the impression Flutie hates ND pretty much any time he opens his mouth...

Flutie has a serious Napoleon complex which makes him favor the little guy......I am loathing the thought of him doing the BC game.

I feel bad for him, he clearly has a problem and I hope he gets the help he needs. Getting divorced and fired in the same year will really stack the chips against him though.

I have found this thread interesting.

A high functioning alcoholic is just that; high functioning. I believe anyone knowledgeable of the misery, its symptoms, and pathology, would not consider Sark a high functioning alcoholic.

I believe anyone who is a father, husband, or football fan would not consider him a high functioning anything.

Just like everyone was willing to let him live in the "mistakenly mixed pills and beer lie," everyone shares in the blame for what this guy was allowed to do.

Sark is the only one responsible for what he did. Not Hayden, not Carol, not his ex-wife, not OJ. Nobody else. It is interesting that our society ignores a whole lot of bad behavior until it costs lives, or blows up so visibly that it must be dealt with, and then all the ass-clowns scramble around to find someone at which to point the finger!

Someone was right when they mentioned the good old days; we are not too far removed from a time where dead bodies would be hidden from view, and crimes would have been buried . . .

As far as a functioning alcoholic, particularly a truly high functioning one, I knew one pretty well. The guy worked a very responsible job until retirement, helped (to the best of his ability) to raise a family, never had a DUI, was the life of the party without being obnoxious, was well loved and respected; man was brilliant, well respected, and truly loved!

Why would I call this person a high functioning alcoholic? He was very atypical symptomatically, always in a good kind mood when drinking, an absolute son of a bitch when sober. Able to perform athletic feats beyond expectation when drinking, not able to do much more than walk a straight line when sober. And the list went on and on.

A high functioning alcoholic is one that would elicit near unanimous surprise at the revelation they had a drinking problem. In fact, most aren't even suspected by any but their closest friends and family members until their secret is revealed. Alcoholism is always revealed, sooner or later. If the person is highly functioning enough, it is usually through their death being caused directly by their addiction, or other ancillary evidence that comes to light after their death.

I think the statistic is 33 out of 34 alcoholics will die early because of their disease. The 34th will die after a normal life expectancy, but of complications of their disease. The 34th is the functioning alcoholic.

And I also get a kick out of comments like Mormons don't drink, etc. Not anything against Mormons in particular, but 30% of the population has a problem with their drinking, or some substance. Period.

ALSO

I don't see how this situation cannot negatively impact SC's play this coming weekend. Kiffin was fired because he was a douche rocket without a plan, poor SC. The program at SC was two years further into their attempt to recreate the Pete Carol era, brought in an ass-wipe of epic proportions, one that apparently made their former douche rocket pale by any performance standard.

Gentlemen, this one is all on SCum! And it will be as distracting as it comes at every level.

As they say, "It is hard to remember you are there to drain the swamp, when you are up to your asses in alligators!"
Bogs... respectfully, a HFA may not always remain a HFA... They are still alcoholics that have the same disease as a skid row alcoholic. The HFA may have a long period of their life where the disease presents no problems external to them. They can be surrounded by enablers, those who also refuse to see the problem, those who think the problem is not severe.

I am not diagnosing Sark as an HFA though I think he exhibits several of the defining characteristics, up until recently where it appears his wife has left him and he is losing his job. At this point he is no longer high functioning, though he quite clearly may have been based on his past.

When Pat Haden also gets fired, can someone make sure NBC doesn't hire him back?

Said it before, say it again, how do we wind up with all these former opponents in the booth for our games? It's not like this is CBS and they do a bunch of SEC games, NBC only broadcasts ND games. It would be nice if they could at least get one alumni to do the games. Flutie - BC. Haden - USC. Mayock (Although I didn't mind him as much) - BC. Dan Hicks went to Arizona, which is at least neutral, and he gets a pass since he's married to Hannah Storm. Hammond was from Kentucky, which is also neutral, but his body died 10 years ago and the Reaper can't tell the difference so he hasn't come to collect.

Was easily one of the weirdest football games I've ever watched. But there's no question that Orgeron revitalized the Trojans. Aside from that freakish loss to us, Ed reeled off 6 consecutive wins, including a slugfest against then-ranked #5 Stanford.

Sark likely bears most of the blame for USC's failure to play up to its potential. He's now out of the way. That doesn't bode well for us.

Agreed, I actually see this as a good thing for them and bad for us.

Maybe someone should buy their interim coach a bottle of booze? Who is willing to contribute?

Sark could have dropped 70 points against us last year and called off the dogs when it was clear that it was going to be a blowout. Hope he gets better.

^ this.
Honestly I do feel sorry for the guy. I hope he can beat his daemons and get his life back on track.

Now with that said..... **** SC. bust those Trojans.

Positive note of this is that it probably distracted them enough to make the preparation time between the two teams more even now.

Just looking at ND's opponents coming up and every team aside from Pitt and Stanford will have two weeks to prep for ND.

Such BS.

Clemson - USC (sorta) - Temple - Wake Forest - Boston College.

Pry more than any other team in the nation.

Maybe Quinn or Bettis and get Holtz in for halftime.

Pat Haden and Mrs. Doubtfire reunited by the end of the season! Mark it down!

I hate USC. I hope this is an enormous distraction and we beat them by 50. Sark, get help and hope the best for you.

Worst case scenario for us. Hard to fuck up a coaching hire as bad as Sark.

I think it depends on how this season goes. If they end up at 8-4 or worse, then I think he's gone at the end of the season. He's really done a poor job since being hired.

I think he should be fired at the end of the year even if they win out. He botched every aspect of the Sark situation. Is there any chance hes canned before the seasons over? I would think they would want to brin in a new AD to handle the coaching search asap.

Hmmm, who does USC go after for a coach now? Is there anyone else in the Cheaty Petey tree they can go after still? Do they go after a guy like Whittingham?

Worried about this game now... I feel like USC might come out with a massive chip on their shoulder ala Texas last week.
