The papers he signed bind the school to the kid, not the kid to the school. He is under no obligation to go to USC or get a release.

It's not binding to the kid... the papers he signed was for student aid.. It means it can't be broken by school "Taking away scholarship offer" but player can walk away anytime

So then, the guy that Clashmore quoted was a nozzle? Thanks for the confirmation! Reps!

Bogs,

The guy clash quoted is not necessarily wrong. ResLife and Blaise are correct too.

What the kid signed is financial aid papers, and my understanding is that while not binding the kid to go there, it establishes enough of a bond between the two that the school can talk about the kid (see Sparty and Malik McDowell a couple yrs ago), or at least that's how it has been perceived. However, it appears that the letter of the law still is that it could be a violation on the school's part if they talk about him. My understanding is they are also working on a proposal to close this gray area and have a definitive say on whether it allows the school to talk about kid or not.

Wouldn't that be only if and when he attends somewhere else?

I think that SC has a lot bigger violations to consider looming right now. But thanks for all of the info, guys!

Yes... by Daelin signing the papers, it then grants USC unfettered and unrestricted contact with Daelin. Daelin is in no way bound to honor the commitment. but USC "announced" the signing of the papers and by doing so acknowledged they have the ability for unlimited contact. By doing so, the NCAA rule states that Daelin must actually attend USC or USC can be charged with recruiting violations.

So the tweet quoted is correct. If Daelin signs with another school, USC faces recruiting violations because they instigated unlimited contact by having Daelin sign the papers.

While I'm not surprised by anything that has happened with Sark & Southern Cal......it would suck for them to get punished for speaking about this kid after he signed papers and he ends up going elsewhere. Although, they've brought on the continued headaches with their program by continually making piss poor decisions in who heads their football program.

Guys, the 'sanctions' are nothing more than a slap on the wrist, and they're already putting in a fix to negate the 'sanctions'. Nothing is going to happen to USC here. And I'm on board with that because it's a silly technicality IMO.

Yea, its a minor violation and nothing will come of it. Its more funny that Sark was dumb enough to tweet it out. This is really a non-issue for them. Sark being drunk all the time, well thats a bigger issue.

it will a very minor secondary violation and the punishment will be a couple to a few days docked against them during an evaluation period.

You know what would really suck? ND signs this kid after all of this then his shoulder remains an issue one way or another his whole career. limiting him severely. Holds a spot on the roster but never really being able to go much.

I was just adding and explaining that the tweet was correct since there seemed to be some confusion. I have no idea what the NCAA will do to them. Maybe Sark was drunk when he allowed Daelin to do it... IDK.

Further, if it is just a minor violation, then why not do this more often and just take the penalty. Its such a dumb "rule".

I see! Couldn't happen to a nicer school.

I was thinking that USC would have to self report; and they could say something like he hadn't cleared admission.

I guess I refused to believe my eyes when it said "USC announced!" Must be the thoughtless move on the part of a program running with a tank on 'empty!'

They really deserve this. Doesn't it open the way to revisiting institutional control issues? (Or did my eyes miss that also? LOL)

Wouldn't Hayes see every specialist that ND wanted before they took his pledge?

Lol. Head coaches don't tweet, they are too busy. Whoever is in the recruiting offices that runs the schools Twitter tweeted it.

It's a non-issue. They lose days during the eval period, not a huge thing. Plus right now, schools are basically have unlimited contact with 2016 kids anyway.

The advantage of the kids signing paperwork is during the dead periods when that school can contact the kid

Daelin Hayes' list has MSU; he's 'not so sure' about UM

"My first official visit will be at Notre Dame this weekend," said Hayes, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound five-star linebacker with 4.5 speed. "If I had to give a No. 1 school right now, Notre Dame would probably be it."

Hayes, who is ranked the No. 13 outside linebacker in the nation by Scout.com, attended Notre Dame's season opener against Texas back on Labor Day weekend and as Irish players entered Notre Dame Stadium, he received a hug from ND head coach Brian Kelly, according to reports.

"I've been loving Notre Dame since my sophomore year when I attended camp and they offered me on the spot," Hayes said Monday. "I'm confident with how they want to use me because they're recruiting me like they did Jaylon (Smith) and they want me to come in and do the same things he's doing (at the hybrid defensive end / linebacker spot). I'm confident the coaching staff would get me to where I need to be at that level. And, I've also talked to 'Bama. 'Bama contacted me today and they want me to set up an official."

Why do I feel like this is one of those recruitments where a kid says he really wants ND, then goes somewhere else, then gets back on the market and ends up at Alabama?

i feel like ND coach's gotta back themselves and the work they have done thus far. Kid is probably gonna wanna visit Bama and whoever the flavour of the month happens to be but the slow play is still the best option here

Well... I don't care much for this update. Not getting my hopes up here. Even if he does commit to ND. This is getting into the drama mama category of Chris Clark.
