If Kizer wins the starting role next year, I think it's almost a sure fire bet that we lose wimbush and Zaire to transfer

Why would Zaire transfer on his senior year when he could graduate and then leave for a fifth year without having sit out a year. Besides, I think competition will go into fall camp.

Good point, my bad on Zaire. Still, we will almost definitely lose Wimbush

It would be really stupid for any QB to transfer. If anything, they should look at the recent history at Notre Dame and realize they are one suspension, one transfer, or one play away from being the starting QB.

I don't get where the Wimbush would transfer thought is coming from. He came in knowing the situation. It's not like he came in thinking he'd be starting this year or next.

No, but he probably had the idea he would be able to start for 2 years and if Kizer were to unseat Malik, with Kizer being only one year ahead of him, he would start for only one year

This makes zero sense. He literally has someone in front of him the same amount of time that he did when he stepped foot on campus. Albeit, with more likely of a chance of playing as a freshmen.

Why do people continue to speak in "definites" about Notre Dame's roster? Haven't the last five years shown that absolutely nothing can be definite in regards to how the roster will shake out?

He could win the job outright as early as this year if Kizer struggles. You seem to be suggesting they are taking turns and not competing for the QB spot.

Oh boy. IMO, there is no way Wimbush transfers. Makes zero sense. He's one bad play away from being the starter. The question should be....Would he be ready?

Based on what little I've read/seen in videos, Wimbush is a ND guy. Doubt he transfers. Christ, he's a true frosh and already in the 2 deep. I get the context that got him there, but BK can show him the 5 year history of how quickly you can get to play at QB at ND because of all of the crazy shit that goes fown.

People are talking like Kizer already has the starting position locked up going forward. We know nothing at this point, Kizer has one full quarter under his belt and was #2 behind Malik prior to the injury, there's no reason to think yet that Kizer is the starter in 2016. Look at Kelly's history at ND (I'm not going back to Cinci). Other than Tommy's legal issue in 2012, Kelly seems to prefer the older, experienced player (Been in the system longer) who returns from injury/suspension. That's not to say he wouldn't start Kizer who would have most of a season under his belt, but my money is on Zaire winning out next year unless Kizer goes between 14-0 and 11-2 this season.

And almost a sure fire bet that we would get a 5-star QB from 2017, probably Hunter Johnson, since the depth chart would be the worst of any school in D1.

Unfortunately, that signing would likely send Zaire out the door, leaving us with only a true freshman.

We really don't know about Kizer, but let me remind everyone of a couple of guys that were third string QB's when injuries forced the coach to play them. One was named John Huarte who went on to win the Heisman. The other was a guy named Joe Montana. I think he did okay as well.

Yup, we have no idea what we have.

what we do know

-Came off the bench for the winning drive capped off by 40ish yard TD pass to Fuller
-had offers from the likes of Bama, LSU, UT, Louisville, etc.
-composite of 12th ranked ProQB with a score of 90 and nationally ranked 232nd
-has great size 6-4.5 / 230lbs and a strong arm
-has never taken 1st team reps until this week, and likely not 2nd team reps until this summer
-lowest rated (recruiting) scholarship QB on our roster (BW 1, MZ 2, DK 3)

Lots to be happy about, lots to be nervous about.

We shall see in 4 days.

GO DK!!

I'm actually excited that we have a 'big' guy taking snaps finally. How tall was Dayne Crist? is Kizer the tallest since maybe Quinn?

I am too. I'm just worried a bit about his mobility in BK's scheme. I've heard from others that he's quicker than fast :). Hoping BK adapts to put DK in the best position.

I know it's been said a lot but listening to Kelly say he is going to run Kizer is taking the wind out of me. How he can run Kizer when all you have left is a freshmen in the tank?

On another note everytime I hear Kizer's name all I can think is

You still have to win games, and Kizer will have to run to make that happen. If they play scared now, it's going to be a LONG season.

I understand your thoughts but at the same time you cannot play scared. If the qb run is part of the game plan then it is and you have to continue with the game plan.

Just rewatched the 4th q. I am riding the yacht. We may now be better with Kizer in. Prayers for MZ but he couldn't have done what Kizer did imho. He was actually throwing too hard.

I'm not saying play scared but if we have two yards to go run CJ but if the linebackers are spread out and they only have 3 or 4 in front of him sure run it. The main thing is I guess don't run him 10-15 times I am thinking more like 5 or so.

Looked decent on that 59 yard bomb he tossed to Fuller.

I see our offense running much more like Cardale and OSU rather than JT and OSU like it was with Zaire. There will be very few designed qb runs but he may scramble and run some zone read

Well if Zaire was playing there probably wouldn't have been a need for a 4th quarter comeback.
