Anybody else find it bizarre that the only "big name" to come out of this so far is Duggar? There are almost certainly politicians and/or other public figures on that list, so why is the first (and so far only) name out the relatively who-the-hell-cares Josh Duggar?
I don't mean public figure like Tom Brady. I meant more "senior staffer to John Kerry" or "Pete Carroll's cousin Steve."I'm assuming it's mostly an indication that they don't seek affairs through sites like Ashley Madison. Seems that the primary "benefit" of seeking an affair through that site rather than other means is that it signals to a potential partner that they're getting into a relationship with someone who is already attached and expects discretion from them. I don't think public figures get much benefit from that: their personal life is already likely to be known to a potential partner before they even meet and the expectation of discretion is similarly obvious.

In the UK, scientists working in a top-secret defence laboratory and a female MP are among hundreds of public servants whose personal details have been published online.
Michelle Thomson, a newly elected Scottish Nationalist Party MP, said a hacker had used her old email address to access the website and she had never visited it herself.
It ain't libel if it's true.whole bunch of business guys, politicians etc been named in public via the media in UK and Ireland. I think the libel laws are different from the US lol

That's very easy to report without committing libel. No, but it's also clear the names and email addresses could be whatever the user designates them to be. Hell, I could sign up with an email of joe.biden@whitehouse.gov if I wanted to.

Headline: Joe.biden@whitehouse.gov among hacker list of active e-mail accounts
That's much easier than writing "Joe Biden slept with a freshman at Georgetown."
Besides, doesn't the hack list way more than e-mail addresses? First name, last name, home address?
yah but the data dump actually contains user's transactions and personal info. it'd be pretty easy to pick out the genuine users wouldnt it?

Sure but he's about the smallest-time holy roller you could possibly find. I'd get it if we were talking Huck or Osteen. They're picking on Duggar because of the scandal. Everyone loves to see a "Holy Roller" go down.

The leak details that. It shows who signed up and left it alone, who signed up and paid money, who signed up and paid money and talked to people, etc.Out of what? 37 million users, how many do you think are fake or just people who were curious about the site and had no interactions other than checking it out? Bet It Is Something Like 80%.
Does it have any type of breakdown? I just wonder how much of a big deal this is. The percentage of people who signed up and used their own personal data is probably small, I would think. So when the class action goes down, this company is probably going to be done. Just profit wise, I wonder if they really raked it in.The leak details that. On the heels of releasing 10 gigabytes of data on Tuesday, they released a new, bigger batch of data that’s about 20 gigabytes worth of compressed files. And while the first batch mostly exposed Ashley Madison’s covert customers, this latest may prove to be more embarrassing to the company’s executives. Judging by the file names in the latest dump, they appear to include email spools belonging to Ashley Madison’s top executive.
so, who besides duggar has been exposed here?
where are the names?
