'12 NY DT Jarron Jones (Notre Dame Signed LOI)

This is horrible news. I was hoping for a big year from him. It seems we can't catch a break with bad news lately.

What other bad news has been recent? I'd say up to this point, it has been a damn nice offseason, and if this is the only bad news, we got off light.

If expectations are tempered because a NT who was "supposed to" do big things got hurt, then this year was already shot before it started anyways. BUCK UP BOYS, and get better JJ.

Bo Wallace never making it to school, Hill transfer, Williams transfer, Bryant suspension then leaving school and now this.

Not horrible offseason, but not a great one:

This really sucks. I wonder how it happened? I was expecting a big year from him. This really hurts our depth.

Not horrible offseason, but not a great one:

Golson. Alford (though I suppose the jury's still out on that one. Denson's appears a solid replacement so far).
Still, compared to the drama of other recent offseasons, this one has been pretty low-key. And losing one likely starter in preseason camp is better than last year when we lost three.

Does this mean we could see JJ in 2016 with a Medical RS?

Jarron won't require a medical redshirt to play in 2016. He will have another year of eligibility left after this year. He will have the opportunity to play a year with his little brother now.

Edit: What jspags10pg said.

Get well JJ. Guess we get to see what Tillery is made of sooner rather than later.

Sucks. I wish him well. The DL will take a hit because of it.

BUT, in his absence last year, some young guys stepped in. Perhaps this year they're stronger and better equipped. Cage, Matuska, Tillery...you're up.

Cage, Matuska, Tillery, Hayes, Bonner, Blankenship and Dew-Treadway, you're up!

**Forgot Elijah Taylor, Kelly said he'll likely be activated since he's already possibly the strongest DL on the team. Another key piece to help fill the void left by JJ.

Hate to hear about JJ. I was expecting him to be a huge breakout player for your Irish this season. Get well young man and come back with a vengeance.

Take my knee Jarron

Aha made me think of this old story: I remember back in the 80's there was a famous soccer player in europe called Marco Van Basten who while supremely talented had chronic ankle injuries. One season after another bleak diagnosis a fan of his then club AC Milan wrote to the club's president and offered to have his foot amputated and "given" to Van Basten as a replacement for his own troublesome ankle :) Needless to say the offer was never accepted but the fan was rewarded with free tickets for life.
