Yeah, because the series they did on the basketball team last season obviously had such a negative impact with all those distractions....

Yea, its really all about the make up of the guys in the locker room. I understand people thinking it could be a distraction but it doesn't have to be. If this is the right group of guys then it won't matter.

IMO, if its not the right group of guys, they weren't going anywhere of significance anyways.

I think it really comes down to how they structure it.

NFL films does recaps without even a single player interview IIRC. So it's not like this has to be a huge burden on the players.

UND media has been at camp and I am sure has hours upon hours of film they can license. Add in a bunch of coaches meetings when they get back to the Bend and then follow around a couple of key players...you could really package up something nice without being a distraction.

While Hard Knox tends to focus on players trying to make the team, I think Showtime is going to want to focus on starters.

Follow around Stanley, Fuller, Jaylon, Schmidt in-depth and then do some light coverage of kids trying to break through or just arriving...

I think the 4 above can manage the distraction.

Yeah, show the players that are almost assuredly draft picks in 16, then show the new arrivals and the guys trying to work their way up (Alize & Crawford & Tillery come to mind). Show the coaching staff and how they interact, interview Swarbrick on his maneuvering amid the tumultuous landscape. Highlight the geographic diversity of the group, show what goes into game planing each week. Show the crossroads project, the gameday activities, the faith life (should they be interested).

I am so jacked about seeing this, assuming they don't want to spin it in a negative fashion.

They could also follow some of the more famous families that have students at ND (Fertita, Bon Jovi, Hunter, Robinson.. am I missing anyone?)

I'm not sure how I feel about this, I'll have to see an episode first I guess.

ND will sign a 5:s: that they wouldn't have otherwise because of this show.

I hope.

Awesome it's a full season. Didn't make sense to focus only on fall camp and spread that out throughout 12 episodes.

Full season worries me more than camp.... What if they lose to G Tech and then players start being interviewed on the show with negative comments.. it could snow ball fast

If Kelly hits his average win total(AT ND) then this could turn out to be a real bad idea.

None of this winey shit matters. The coaches and administrators and I'm assuming the players have signed off on it. They will follow the team and give us an inside look. As a fan, I'm ecstatic.

This gives more exposure and may impress some recruits out there, which is important. This reaffirms that ND is a monster brand and is still a "cool" place to be.

The only reason I hold the right to revisit this opinion is if Showtime puts a negative spin on this. I don't care if we lose 4 games and it shows the players battling adversity, this will still be great for ND.

Showtime just picked up another subscriber.

Going to drop Netflix for this during the season. So happy they did this after Showtime launched a product for cable cutters.

I understand the reservations to letting others interprit and then distribute what they see and hear out of ND with their own point of views but do we really think ND let's Showtime in and have free range and final say on the show? I believe Swarbrick and the admin. to be too savvy for that with the " ND Brand" they protect so closely.

I imagine it'll turn out a lot like Onward Notre Dame episodes just on a weekly basis.

Agreed, I understand the concerns about it being distracting but I feel pretty comfortable that this won't get played against ND. Swarbrick has done a very good job with those things during his tenure. I have faith in that.

If any school can make this happen with as few distractions as possible, it's ND. They are tight-fisted with their program, and I doubt that changes much with this program. The kids are used to cameras around, as they do things with the ND camera crew all the time, so this is not going to be a ton different.

I look at this as another sign that the admin is starting to get it. This is a GREAT marketing tool if done right. It can be phenomenal, and can get a lot of misconceptions out of the way, as well as accentuating all the great aspects the university has to offer.

I love this.

There's zero chance that Jack would have signed anything without a clause along the lines of "The University maintains the right to review all content, including interviews with coaches and student-athletes, and to reject such content that it feels, at its sole discretion, conflicts with the University's mission or interest."

Arizona State thinks this is so cute.

Do you think we can get the IE ad-revenue to pay for a community subscription to Showtime, and then share the log-in information with everyone?

To all those who think ND can sneak up on another national title game, forget it.

You want to be the Notre Dame of Holtz, Devine, Parseghian, Leahy and Rockne? Well you don't do it by hoping you avoid failure, you don't try to sneak in the back door. You kick in the front door and you do it by design, because you can.

Entities that achieve greatness do it because they publicly commit to it and they stand up against the odds. They don't look at obstacles as barriers rather they are merely milestones on the way to an ultimate goal. They don't formulate excuses for when they fail, they write speeches for when they succeed.

There are a lot of guys here who have it all backwards. You wanna be the best, you have to believe it long before it happens.

Someone brought up, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Yes, Teddy Roosevelt said it but he earned the position to say that by leading a Rough Rider charge up San Juan Hill, riding a white horse into machine gun fire with two 45's on his side and a Winchester rifle in hand... like a boss.

Great move ND. Everything screams boss about this season and they are running to it, not away from it.

Now how do I watch this for free?

but seriously, how do you watch it for free?

I can't believe you guys...

But, if you find an answer to this question let me know - I have a friend that is asking about it.

Live? That's tough. If you have HBO/Netflix/Hulu+/ect. there are places, specifically I know of on reddit, where you can trade with another user to defray costs. They give you the account name and password to their HBO in return for your account name and password to a different service.

Other than that there are live streams you can find of premium channels but they are often pretty terrible quality or they are cropped to avoid detection software so you are missing 15% of the screen.

If you don't mind waiting a day or two to watch it you will almost certainly be able to torrent each episode. Depending on the popularity of the show, say GoT, you can download it within an hour or two of it airing. These are perfect 1080p HD files.

Do you think we can get the IE ad-revenue to pay for a community subscription to Showtime, and then share the log-in information with everyone?

No. That is why people do what i mentioned above, sharing account info with one or two other people. The companies monitor how many IP addresses are accessing their services. If it's clear that half of IE is sharing one account all over the country they will cut you off.
