meh, wasn't a fan of Mayock. He might know his Xs and Os, but I thought his in-game analysis was off. He'd talk about a play, have them replay it, talk about the play again, and what he described was not what was on the TV.

This happened multiple times that I saw.

Mayock drops knowledge and puts in the work unlike many others. He may be too technical for the casual fans though, which probably make up the majority. They will see Flutie as a household name and clamor over his every word, damn shame.

This is a terrible move IMO. Mike has great insight on the players abilities and how the players will do at the next level.

No offense, but this is the LAST thing that I care about, in the middle of a game. I want analysis about what is going on on the field, not about where someone might go in the 2050 NFL draft. And Mayock was not any better than average at that.

Liked Mayock a lot. He unlike many, had something to say about the game and the players. He became a real fan of the Notre Dame studs that he watched all season, and gave them props on national shows when others didn't [except, of course, Kiper]. Any "complexity" that he may have talked about never should confuse a real knowledgeable fan, and I'd feel "bring it on, Mike."

Personally I liked Mayock. I always thought he did a good job of balancing being too soft and/or over critical of the play on the field. I didn't see his analysis as being over the top.

Meh. I was sick of Mayock waxing our oppents balls. Youre announcing on our network focus on our guys.

I always enjoyed his opinion on individual players. He tied it into the game or game plan. For instance, in 2012, he would point out time and time again how Teo's instincts changed the game plan for the opposing offense.

I want analysis about what is going on on the field, not about where someone might go in the 2050 NFL draft. And Mayock was not any better than average at that.

I'm not sure there is anyone better right now. He's great at pointing out the little things that the camera may miss or the casual fan may not understand.

Apparently Mayock’s football smarts were too much for some at NBC when former NBC Sports President Dick Ebersol criticized Mayock for being too wonky with his analysis of the Irish, even though he was wildly popular with many of Notre Dame’s more hardcore fans.
“(Mayock) would not listen,” Ebersol told the Sports Business Journal in May. “(NBC Executive Producer) Sam Flood did everything to get him to knock off (the jargon).”

Keith Jackson was wildly popular with PAC-10 fans, in his waning years. But it wasn't because he was on top of his game, because he was turning into a senile, angry old man. But he pumped the helloutta the PAC-10 teams, so their fans loved him.

The announcing thing doesn't really bother me. Mayock isn't bad, but he's one of those guys that the more you hear of him the less impressive he seems.

The big news here is the marquee game of the year in terms of building ND's brand is getting moved to an off-brand network. I understand it from NBC's standpoint, because they need some ratings draws on NBCSN or they're in trouble. But it sucks for ND that it has to come at our expense; I'm sure Swarbrick, Kelly, et al., are not pleased.

I'm surprised that the contract doesn't define "home game" to include Shamrock Series games, when they are defined as "home games" for all other purposes.

I liked Mayock and enjoyed his analysis. If they want to make a change, fine, but at this point, I do not think Flutie is the right call either.

I'm assuming its due to his contract with Fox but Brady Quinn would've been a nice addition.

Brady would be an excellent and welcomed addition to the broadcast.

Our wives would quit asking us so many damn questions all game.

How do we keep ending up with these rivals doing ND commentary? Haden, Mayock, Flutie, fuck. Next thing you know when Michigan gives Harbaugh the axe he's going to get a job at NBC. Why couldn't they bring the Bus back to do commentary, or like...any other alumni?

You know...this team hasn't done much ever since Haden first stepped into that booth. I think he put bad USC mojo on us, and it continued with Mayock/Flutie possibly.

Funny to hear people call out Mayock for jocking opponents nuts but then have the audacity to call ESPN out on their SEC bias. I found him rooting more for the underdog in most cases, not specifically our opponents in general, such as Navy.

I remember specifically Mayock hyping Cam McDaniel saying he is a pro back when in reality he most likely would not get drafted. He constantly hypes ND guys in the draft because he watches so much tape of them during ND games. He really liked Hillbilly during the draft process.

I give NBC "a ton of credit" for making this move. Not really, but I was tired of the laughing and celebrating when an opponent made a play on the Irish. It got old quick to have a guy regularly rooting for the underdog which was usually the other team. I did like to hear his X's and O's analysis, though it wasn't like he was spot on every time.

Wait, I thought people were tired of Mayock because of his passive aggressive comments about ND and his favoritism towards opponents.

This plus 1. Go back to some of the old gameday threads and some were pulling hair out. I'm indifferent. I like Flutie's demeanor but that's not ear worthy.
