Yeah no reason to pile on here. Time will tell, just like with any other kid we sign. I'm pretty excited about what I saw on the film from him at II personally though, and you know me, I am excited about every kid we get regardless. I will say, like LA mentioned, it's still really early in the process and there is plenty of time for him to rise in the rankings.

I was away from my computer all day yesterday and the first post I looked at was the video from II in the II thread. I remember saying out loud to myself that a wide receiver looked explosive (and that Jalen Elliott didn't look great fwiw) and it turns out this was the guy. Very happy with the commit.

This is the only post in this whole circlejerk that really addresses my OP.

That's funny bc you said Chris Brown wasn't any good and used his TD stats to make that point, as if that was the ONLY stat to properly evaluate TD's. When it was brought up to you that there are more important stats, you acted incredulous as to how anyone would think you said that LOL, and have ignored it ever since. You might want to address that too.
I didn't bring up rankings 1st and I didn't say I was better at evaluating talent. Further, for the reading impaired or "negativity"-averse, I never ripped the kid or that ND accepted his commit. In fact, I expressly said I didn't hate the commit, but that I thought ND could have waited on him and if they missed on him in the future, well, he's not making or breaking the class.

You said his offer list sucks and gave only a "maybe" to the fact that the kid could be getting better, when reporters who were there stated he looked MUCH better. Think about that. An expert, not just a reporter, said he looked much better, and you STILL wouldn't concede that could be the case. You haven't even seen the kid but you still won't give in LOL.
That out of the way, if you want to say, "you know, LSU knows what they're doing in evaluating WR talent," fine, sure. I even said they're a good team that have offered him. But, really, his offer list is not "impressive" as someone posted above my OP. There are a few good to really good teams on there. Feel free to point out the teams, other than the ones I mentioned that are "good" on his offer list.

You said his offer list "sucks". You never said "really good teams", you said only marginal to good. If you had worded it like you had above, I wouldn't have commented as much. But sorry, LSU has an outstanding track record of putting 1st round WR's in the league. And several other schools are quality offers. His offer list does not 'suck'. It's not dynamic, no doubt about that, but it's not nearly as bad as you first said.
Sure, he can get better, maybe he will. If/when that happens, his offer list and rankings will grow. Never said they wouldn't. But, we could have waited until that happens, especially w/such a small class.

In your OP, you really didn't sound like you were giving any wiggle room for improvement. You still really don't give much.

If you had simply stated something like, "I'm personally not feeling this commitment. He's got some pretty good offers, but I think with this being such a small class, if I were the staff, I would have slow played him and waited for bigger fish. Hope I'm wrong, but that's where I'm at. The good news is that reporters say he has improved since his jr film, so hopefully he builds on that."....then you wouldn't have gotten near the reaction you got. I certainly would have respected that opinion, bc no staff is infallible, and I can see why you'd have concerns.

But your OP was worded in a way that I had to respond, bc you basically ignored anything that made him look good and gave little room for possible improvement...

If I am reading this right, tremendous athlete with great hands/ball skills but needs work at route running. Seems like he is lacking in the area that is easiest to correct.

Congrats for living the dream and earning an offer at camp. Cue Van Halen "Dreams"

He had an offer before camp and he is underrated it was actually stated that he runs good routes. Every site has a different opinion on this kid, all that really matters is that Brian Kelly and the staff see something that they like.

Fluid runner. Sneaky long stride speed. Just sails past other people. Runs like Randy Moss or Deon Sanders (not saying as fast/good, but similar style).

From OFD's recap of II:

Stepherson was unanimously tabbed as the most dominant player at the camp by the recruiting analysts, who all feel he's vastly underrated. He may well end up as the best receiver in this Irish class.

"BUT, BUT ... look at his offer list ... MICHIGAN?"

Samardzija committed a month later than Stepherson and had 4 offers from ND, IU, NW, and PU.

No Michigan, No Florida, No Miami, No MVP Award from a Speed & Skill Camp ...

Is there a reason that he is listed as a RB on committed list on the front page?

He is playing running back, because we have so many talented WR on the roster and prospective commits this cycle.

I remember him being pretty much an after thought recruit... Then CW came in....

That's not true. Willingham played him often his freshman and Sophomore year. I believe he started a few games his sopped year.

The kid is wrapping up awards. The only thing I tapers he needs to work on is route. That is something that could be fairly easy to do.

AT FSU CAMP took pic w/ golson

AT FSU CAMP took pic w/ golson

I just texted Stepherson and he wants everyone to know that he's 100 percent committed to Notre Dame.--rivals

"I don't even have an offer," Stepherson said.

I just remember that class, he was far from one of the highlights, I belvie he was like a mid three star correct??... he was not really talked about, he did end up playing AFTER being recruited, but he didn't become a standout until CW... not saying CW made him, just that he was used to his potential, and even beyond what many thought his potential even was, at that point, anyway, my point was he was not a major recruit.

Because that validates him being a good football player?

Didn't mean it like that, in a sense yes. I have some questions regarding him meaning what kind of football player he is. Poor man's Corey Holmes? Staff and everyone else loves him and that's good enough for me. Jury is still out for me what kind of football player he is. That's all

Rivals had him as a 3 star.

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2003 Notre Dame Commitments

Scout had him as a 4 star.

Yea, so essentially ND offering and taking him doesn't validate it, but FSU's coaching staff does.

Isn't that a little contradictory?
