On Power Hour, Josh just talked about how all the recruits are in the group chat and have been communicating with each other. They're all close, they don't talk about individual accomplishments or goals, they're all about the team and want to win a championship. He's really looking forward to playing USC.

So the Hoge family is responsible for two ND players in the class of '15.

Merril Hoge was driving with his former wife, Toni, taking their two children to school. They saw a boy and girl, siblings from a blue-collar family, walking to school.

Hoge's son, Beau, was getting to know the boy, Josh Barajas. The size of the youngster sparked a thought in Merril Hoge's mind. The eight-year NFL running back with the Steelers and Bears saw something in Barajas, now a senior standout at Andrean.

Take it for what it is. A friend of mine whose a past grad at Andrean said he spoke to Josh and Josh was telling him that the coaching staff wants to get him on the field at safety this year. Pretty interesting I thought

My guess is it's at the quasi-safety (but really LB) in the box position.

Yea, I highly doubt that happens. I'm very very high on Barajas as a LB but I see nothing in his game that shows that.

I wonder if there's some confusion here with Bilal? I think there was some talk shortly after his commitment of him starting off at safety.

Someone else can probably comment more thoroughly, but didn't II or ISD say that they were unimpressed with the physical condition in which Josh reported? A lot of those guys thought Josh was the top recruit in the class and could push for playing time. Sounds like he'll redshirt this year for sure with the depth currently and Coney pushing.

Does he have the frame to put on more weight? Let him keep getting bigger and put him at end. That's the old Jimmy Johnson model. A slower, bigger linebacker becomes a faster, smaller defensive end.

He'll be in shape by the spring.

Maybe. But the more he focuses on conditioning/getting into shape, the less he's focusing on football. And it's hard to improve fundamentals at practice when you're constantly gassed. He should have been ready to strap it up from day one.

I am curious because I never hear anything about the first few days of practice, but do college programs have circuits, run at the end and such in the first few weeks of practice?

I remember Kelly talking about this a couple years back. I'm paraphrasing here....basically he said their strength & conditioning program is designed to get players to peak towards the end of the season. Makes sense but I'm curious how they get them stronger as the season progresses. It was always a struggle to simply maintain during the season.

I'm gonna throw this out there. JB might have gone through a major body change at this age. I mean, his head looks like it grew 50% and now looks like JB the recruits 5 year older brother.

My sons always gained weight just before and during a growth spurt. Don't any longer remember the details of my older big uglies, but my youngest son (now mind you I am talking age 9 here) went from a kids 2.5 shoe size to an adult men size 7.5 in one year. He went from 60-something to the low 90's in weight and grew about four or five inches in height. I remember my older boys doing that much later, and I even remember some kids I went to high school with doing that after graduation.

My point being, growth spurts can make you look pudgy, and change your body radically.

I don't think we should assume anything with this kid.
