So sorry to here about Coach's Mom...what a trooper. I was wondering why Jack Swarbrick was tearing up and what he was telling Coach after the game when they embraced.

I like this...'bout sums it up.

Horrible game plan tonight
Horrible execution
Horribly prepared

Wasn't the best but the guys mom died this morning. My mom died 12 years ago and I guarantee you I wouldn't have been able to think about coaching a game that day. I'm amazed he was able to stay so composed.

Heart goes out to Brey. Having his best season and loses his mom same day makes Sweet 16.

It's one of his greatest strengths, the man's always composed. I've never seen him lose his temper at a player, no matter what stupid thing they did, and he only occasionally gets worked up enough to yell at the refs.

My father died on my 18th birthday and my mom a few years later....would be hard to focus for sure.

The point about Butler's FTs is essential, too. They usually shoot 68%, today were at 85%. That's 4-5 points they normally wouldn't have. ND can't really do anything about that, but it would have meant a much different game late.

RIP for Coach's mom. He is a solid guy, and extremely friendly. We should all say a prayer for his family.

Man that's tough. My mom died when I was 26, just 2 weeks after my daughter was born (my first child). It was extremely sudden and I know my daughter being born is the only thing that got me through it. 5 years later my son was born and that was tough without her there. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her. I was a wreck the day she died and for a long time after. It amazes me that Coach was able to keep it together tonight.

Definitely my prayers go out to Brey and his family....That's gotta be rough, but given that he didn't say anything about it until after the game, I'm curious as to whether he informed the guys prior to the game tonight

He did not. Said he didn't want it weighing on them. He told them after the game.

Lighten up, Francis. We're in the fucking Sweet 16 at 31-5 with an ACC Championship and coming off a win over a team that has been to the NCAA Finals twice in the past 3 years. Add in the fact that Brey beat Coach K twice, Roy Williams twice, Rick Pitino, Tom Izzo, Mark Gottfried this year and the fact that only two of those wins were at the JACC, and I don't want to hear one more bad word about Mike Brey

All I can say is Steve Vasturia. This guy has kept ND in so many games defensively and with his offense this year. He's been so quiet in the past 10 games being overshadowed by JG and PC. He now drives to the bucket almost better than any of the other players for easy layup and is probably our most consistent 3 shooter since the ACC tourney started. Grant, IMO, can be overrated at times. No doubt can Grant take over a game like SV can but look for Stevie to be a huge factor going forward.

Great win, Grant shot was huge in sealing the win. I personally thought it was a great game by two outstanding teams that refused to give an inch.

Prayers for Coach Brey and his family.

In a packed Brother's bar here in Muncie, I listened as a the entire bar fell silent after Butler lost and then proceeded to chug my 22oz, flip all of them off, and make out with some girl.

Second weekend baby.

Just re-read this thing. Some "Fire Brey" posts during the game.....probably some disappointed folks.

I'm going out on a limb but I bet every team in sports has had a fan exclaim "Fire him!" at some point in a game somtime during a season or post season. To fans' defense, it's the heat of the game and they're responding out of emotion over a game that in the scope of life doesn't really matter...it's a release for most fans & I'll bet they change their mind after a game like last night. It's the fans who come back the day after and scroll thru a game day thread w/ righteous indignation after the fact to call out said fans that gets me. Where were they during the game? If they're not on the board b/c of perceived negativity then why go visit the same thread after the fact. Not saying you fall into this category b/c you could've very well been in the thick of the posting on this thread last night. I don't know...I didn't go back to read it. Bottom line, I never take game day threads too seriously. They are a release for the fan nothing more IMO. THat's the great thing about being an ND fan...they're such a national program that there is fans everywhere. Unfortunately, in most states it's not like there's an ND-friendly bar where random ND fans can meet up, so we rely on the comfort of our homes & our own TV. The gameday threads give us a group of fans to "discuss" the game with as it's being played.

Got quite drunk watching so was avoiding IE like the plague.

And the "Fire Brey" talk is 24/7 (although quieter this season) so of course I'm going to find it amusing when it takes place during a 2nd Round win. I'm sure some people were posting it when frustrated when things looked bleak, but there are others who have been posting it for years.

If you think that the "Fire Mike Brey" talk is limited to in game posts you're wrong. I feel like there entire threads discussing this on off days. Had we lost last night those people still could have taken a hike in my opinion- and even had we lost Thursday.
A lot of times it is the people who don't watch any ND basketball in the four months leading up to the tournaments, or the ND football fans who like to stir the pot with the diehard ND basketball fans as well. It's tired, it's old, and now they have a Sweet 16 to shove in their pipes, because that was literally the only viable knock on Mike Brey before

Haven't watched many bball games this year...But it is clear this team has really good leadership. Auguste had a bad couple minutes, but they kept him "up". Guys made plays when they needed to, and they won.

Steve Vastoria is a babby-faced assassin one time down the floor...then a bangin' goon another...he just does what needs done...really like that kid. He stood out among a number of really good ball players from both teams last night.

Can't fathom why they didn't try and get Auguste more involved. He kept dropping those picks and rolling to the hoop-it became an exercise as nobody ever (from my perspective) dropped him the ball. Just felt they could have done that later in the game to show a different look and get him more involved in the game.

Regardless-great game. I saw crap fouls but nothing IMO that favored any team. A "W" and a second weekend. Nicely done.
