I like the mental makeup of this team as well. I think we'll play sharper and more focused on the road.

Gosh, only thing is... degree???

Maybe he can play out his time in the NFL and appeal for a last shot a decade from now?? Just seems like such a waste to not finish the degree.

Hmm...I'm not sure any receiver had the 'hot hand' on Saturday. It hadn't occurred to me that Hunter didn't play much until now.

Fuller had himself a fine game, and it appears that Hunter plays behind Fuller (same WR position). I would say that Fuller definitely had the hot hand Saturday, especially when given chances to run those screen plays.

This Will Fuller kid, he's s bona-fide #1.

They said the PC Kelly at ND is 24-2 when we have possession clock in our favor.

Kizer to start on Saturday.

This is worrying.

The reporter mentioned that both Tranquill and Farley have other roles on the defense, as if to suggest that we really should have somebody ready to go behind those guys at safety in case of injury, and Kelly really sounded to me like he was unprepared to answer that question.

He probably means too much to the offense as a blocker, but might it make sense to get some practice reps for Prosise at safety? Four safeties, all of whom play regularly, is really thin. And Hunter can play slot WR for us behind Carlisle, although it sounds like Kelly was trying to get him in as an outside WR behind Will Fuller.

Not really sure where to put this, but I really enjoyed someone juxtaposing ND and FSU so directly. I am not a Cowboys fan, so that part of the article doesn't mean much to me. But I'm glad we are continuing to get some credit for winning on and off the field. Let's win this weekend and get one huge leap closer to reclaiming our spot atop college football!

I'll be the one to point it out... Sharp's #HotSportsTakes columns are parodies. He's mocking the Rick Reilly style of sports journalism.

Every now and then, we will attempt to write the worst sports column on earth. Today: Let’s talk about Notre Dame and the Dallas Cowboys.

Yeah, injury (or a "targeting" flag... ejection) to either starter could put ND in one helluva mess at safety position. Wow, this group is definitely thin now!

Fair enough, I still enjoyed it! Even if it's a parody, it's still attention brought to the fact that the FSU's of the world are winning at all costs, which I can appreciate.

Can't say I've read much of his stuff so I'm not familiar with his style, and I clearly missed that tagline. And it's not particularly overt parodying, which obviously confused me. Thank you for setting me straight!

Please welcome, ladies and gentlemen; your emergency safety.... Cam McDaniel!! I think he played it in High School. With as loaded as we are at tailback, we could certainly cut one of them loose to help out on D.

Yes, GREAT idea. Cam did play CB during spring practice one year. He has to be a contingency plan at safety, too.

What're Atkinson and Jalen Brown doing? I don't want to see them forced into action, but I'm not sure who else a realistic option for emergency 3rd string safeties. John Turner actually could be ok.

The one bright spot is that if Farley is forced in at Safety, we can move Riggs to Nickel and throw Butler in outside. Its just a crappy depth situation back there.

Brown and Atkinson didn't make the trip to play Syracuse. I doubt they make the trip to FSU.

All good points.

I've been wondering about Atkinson and Jalen Brown myself. Atkinson may be preserving a year so he can transfer somewhere for his 5th. That wouldn't surprise me. Jalen Brown is just a complete no-show who didn't even make the special teams, apparently. He reshirted as a frosh so no need for him to preserve a year.

Turner, yes. He might be an option at safety. Last year during fall practice Kelly said that he was doing well there ("We have noticed John Turner"), although we know to take comments like that with a grain of salt.

It is good that Butler has been getting more playing time. It sounds like that has been a bit of an experiment, though? Kelly did say at today's presser that Farley would be back at the nickel and Riggs at CB for the FSU game.
