Now there is a color for sarcasm? I thought it was italics. I am so confused...
I hereby state, to alleviate everyone's confusion, that sarcasm and facetiousness are two different things :
sarcasm n. noun
1.A cutting, often ironic remark intended to wound.
2.A form of wit that is marked by the use of sarcastic language and is intended to make its victim the butt of contempt or ridicule.
facetious adj. adjective
1.Playfully jocular; humorous.
2. not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark.
3. amusing; humorous.
4. lacking serious intent; concerned with something nonessential
So the difference between the two is mean spiritedness versus playful jocularity. On a athletic fan site full of athletic supporters, there is room for both. Sometimes you want to dig it in, and others there is room for
joc(k)ularity. Get it?
When I am being silly, I want people to know it. As opposed to when I am barking like a junkyard dog.
Speaking of bullshit though : if you watch the media line, they cover their own bodies with piles of b.s. A recruit comes up less than advertised; what do they do? Come up with some generic fluff to cover the gaffe! That was what led to my original
facetious statement. I saw JH listed as high as six-three, and if what I heard from The Opening is correct, six-even was generous. I am 5'11". When someone six-even approaches from a distance, I can't tell if they are taller until we are right next to each other. Someone six-two, I can tell is taller from some distance. Hard to confuse that difference.
Remember, I have long been an advocate that statistics don't the ball player make. I have gone crazy when we missed offering a player on any statistical deficit other than speed (and quickness).
To me it is just a positive hit on the hypocrisy meter, and worthy of a jocular note!
