It's fun watching UM lose, but they're really killing our SOS. Thankfully Purdue beat IL this weekend.

Baylor being ranked as high as they are is a joke. Granted, ND's schedule is turning out to be quit manageable but Jesus H. Christ, who has Baylor played? ND's opponents are have a weak 12-15 combined record while Baylor's opponents have an even weaker 8-18 record which includes an FCS opponent.

Yeah, their schedule up to this point has been a joke, but they still have Oklahoma left to play, Kansas State, and TCU this weekend. There's a possibility they'll drop at least one of those, but who knows. There's been a lot of upsets already this year.

Baylor was 11-2 last year with a Fiesta Bowl appearance. Granted, they lost that game. But they returned a 4200 yard passer who only threw 3 picks last year. They deserved to start the year ahead of us and we haven't played good enough competition to jump them, IMO.

I guess that goes back to my beef with preseason rankings.

Yah because rolling the #1 defense in the country doesn't matter.

That's fair. I think rankings should come out about right now for the first time. Then all of the "jumps" wouldn't appear. Perceptions are going to change wildly for the first several weeks. Either way, we're in good position.

Totally agree. We keep winning and don't worry about the rest.

This place is going to melt down when ND beats FSU, only to move up a single spot because "the Seminoles' weaknesses finally caught up to them."

I think the win over Stanford, rough as it was, should put us over Baylor. They haven't beaten any team of Stanford's caliber.

Stanford must not be very good this year /ESPN

This is in their power rankings:

The Irish survived the nation's best defense, but Notre Dame is going to have to beat Florida State in two weeks to be taken more seriously as a playoff contender.

Apparently beating the best defense doesn't amount to much. USC fucked us over on this one, and then double dirty dogged us for getting hammered at BC.

Yup, I expected they'd reduce Stanford to cupcake-like status after we beat them. They'll probably say the same about FSU if we pull an upset. "They haven't looked very good this season, and FSU hadn't played anyone."

The SEC West is 22-0 against out of conference opponents. They've only lost to each other. That's not bias, that's a fact.

You guys have a ridiculous double standard. You don't like "leap frogging," but I can't wait to see everyone bitch if we beat Florida State and we don't leapfrog Baylor. No no... Notre Dame is allowed to leap teams but NO ONE else. Yes, Stanford is a quality opponent but they're not on the same level as Alabama or A&M.

You all think we're underrated and the haters think we're over rated. I'll take that as solid evidence that we're appropriately rated.

What a BS misrepresentation. You act like the SEC west' out of conference games are challenging or against the power 5 conferences. Here are those games:

Auburn
- San Jose St
- Kansas St
- Louisiana Tech

Miss St
- Southern Miss
- UAB
- South Alabama

Ole Miss
- Boise St
- Louisiana Lafayette
- Memphis

Texas A&M
- Lamar
- Rice
- SMU

Bama
- West Virginia
- Florida Atlantic
- Southern Miss

Out of the 15 OOC games played in the SEC West, only 2 were from Power 5 conferences. Out of the 15 games, only one game was against a ranked opponent (KSU). So take that noise to somebody that is willing to get the wool pulled over their eyes.

I personally think Baylor is the worst team in the top-10, and probably should finish the year somewhere in the mid-20s.

I would give that title to Ole Miss....Bo Wallace reminds me of a mix of Tony Romo and Jay Cutler....and that ain't good....

I don't. I took the blue pill.

Is the blue pill the one that makes you larger, or the one that makes you small?

Go ask Alice. I think she'll know.

And we all know that the yellow pill is Mother's Little Helper.

I think the lack of movement for the Irish in the polls comes down to a couple of things. First, the ghost of 2012 is still lurking. Fair or unfair. Secondly, as much as Irish fans want to prop up Stanford as a signature win, I think most see Stanford as a mid-teen type team this year. They have not been impressive at all. Being ranked at the # 5 spot should be looked at as both a blessing and a cursing. A blessing in the fact that ND is still undefeated as others are losing. Keep winning and it takes care of itself. And a win at FSU will go a long way in voters minds as to whether this Irish team is legit or not. A cursing in the fact that if ND does lose a game, they will probably fall all the way down to the 8-10 spot. And one loss will hurt the Irish more than some other teams. Simply put, to get to the final four I think the Irish have to be undefeated.

Lose close on the road to the defending national champ and win out and i think they'll be right in the thick... any other situation and TT may be right...

but screw it, bring on Marshall!! #Ain'tNeverScared

Tommy. Do you think we are left out if our only loss is a close game to FSU in Tallahassee? Especially if there is one, or none, undefeated teams?

Depends on how everything else plays out. I would think that if there are 4-5 other teams with one loss it will be tough for the Irish. Just don't know how the committee will end up picking the teams in the end. I still think you guys have a great shot against FSU anyway. It may all be moot in a few weeks.

Even if we beat FSU, I don't think there's a better than 50/50 shot we go undefeated.

@ASU is going to be no pushover with Taylor Kelly back anytime now. @USC is also a never know. Louisville is playing really good ball, and they're getting a WR back this week who had 70 catches for 1,200 yards last year, Northwestern is playing tough, and Navy always sucks... Just ask OSU who should have lost.

I still think we're a 1-loss team at best, and I think our schedule is plenty strong to put us in the playoffs with.

If we beat FSU, we're better than our remaining opponents, outside of ASU, who you really can't say for sure.. They're undefeated with Kelly and playing damn good without him even. Still, very hard to go undefeated with almost every game being a formidable opponent.

I'm kind of with Koon, I mean, while young this is one of the more talented ND teams in a long while... and they look good...

but a run of UNC, FSU, Navy, ASU, NW, Louisville, and USC is still very difficult, especially when you consider them all back to back without let up, that makes every game more and more difficult...

I'm just glad they are 5-0 and realistically hope the floor is 9 wins at this point... aside from that it's game to game for me until we get further down the road.

well koon... let's hope your right. But right now, I don't even see my Tide getting in with one loss. A lot of football left... gotta think we will see some more teams losing along the way.

So if we beat #1 FSU were better than our remaining except for maybe #20 ranked ASU? ... for reals?

To me that's not even that relevant when you play above average to better opponents week after week without any cup cakes or bye weeks surrounding them all... when you do that teams tend to stumble, even if they are 'better than every opponent on the schedule'... this has bitten ND numerous time over the years... you need a true eb and flow with some real gimmies in there (see the SEC in November)... these games are not played without impacting the next.
