Plano West running back Soso Jamabo had another big game last Friday night, garnering 185 yards and three touchdowns even though he played just over a half. For the season, he’s averaging a ridiculous 12.1 yards per carry including a 489 yard game against Sachse and has a touchdown once every five carries.
We talked to Jamabo after the game and while interest in him had died down during the spring it’s picked back up again with his performance so far.
“I’m going to UCLA October 11 and that would be it” he said. “I don’t know that I’ll have future ones but for now that would be it”.
Jamabo noted that Texas A&M has reenagaged him since the start of the season.
“A little bit” he said. “They didn’t talk to me for a little bit but they’re back on now. I’m talking to them a little bit as well as Arizona State, Baylor, Oregon, so I’m getting on track with some other schools now. I hadn’t had too many conversations with them (until A&M came and saw him play against Sachse)
Jamabo stated that if he would be taking any unofficial visits that it would be to in state schools like A&M and Baylor and that would be it. However, he doesn’t have anything specific planned. When asked who was recruiting him the hardest he said that UCLA and Notre Dame were recruiting him extremely hard right now.
There were multiple people at the game Friday night including a college coach who had a variety of opinions as to where Jamabo would wind up. One person thought that UCLA and Notre Dame led for him and that would be consistent with his statements as to how hard they are recruiting him. However, another who’s more plugged in at the local level said that Jamabo is very close to A&M basketball commits D.J. Hogg and Tyler West (both from Plano) as well as Allen quarterback Kyler Murray and he saw him eventually winding up at A&M. One thing in A&M’s favor is that he is not going to make a decision until after the season which gives the A&M staff lots of time to continue to work on him.
