Not "making excuses" but "multiple felonies" is a bit harsh for what sounds like a kid having too much to drink on prom night, getting scared about getting caught (and he has more on the line than most), and running from the cops.
Stupid, yes. But a long way short of the kind of stuff DGB and Joe Mixon are accused of.

same deal as will mahone really
This is crazy. I remember early on in the recruiting process how this kid was being touted as a HIGH character kid, not like the typical elite high school recruit. Then we saw the recruiting game get the best of him. Now this. Shame. I hope he gets his act together before it's too late.
We've all drank when we shouldn't have. Some of us got caught, some of us didn't. Hope he learns a lesson.
Still wish he was Irish...
Yep, but when we got caught, we didn't flee recklessly lol.
Me too. I hate to be the homer that said it, but maybe he wouldn't have been stupid had he been Irish and stayed in touch with our coaches.
Dave Casper said it wasn't like ND forms you by making something out of you that you weren't; It's more like ND attracts you for what is already there, and just lets you become. Something like that . . .
Maybe, but I think I believe that most people have the capacity to be good and/or bad. Ultimately it's a person's choice, but the environment can be a strong means of development of either side. Some people are naturally good, and some are naturally bad. But I think most are somewhere in the middle of the bell curve. Those that are in the middle, or middle-good space can turn a corner in an environment like ND and reach to levels they never thought possible. Those same folks might turn a different way at a football factory. I grew up poor, in a crappy neighborhood. I was blessed that my parents sacrificed and sent me to Catholic school. A lot of my friends that were just as "good" as me, or even better as children, turned down a very different path via public schools.
We aren't saying much different. My real criticism wasn't of Jamabo himself. After all, his actions were just Soso!
It really is how those around him deal with this behavioral element.
What? Do you recall what Will Mahone did? Soso had to much to drink on prom night like a lot of teenagers do and made a dumb decision yes. DBG ran a drug cartel basically in Mizzou and Joe Mixon flat our knocked a girl out cold. Maybe I'm just younger then most and showing him to much sympathy but I can understand what Soso is going through and I'm sure like most we made stupid decisions to drink and drive. I firmly believe in second chances and Soso is a great kid and don't want to see his football career taken away. Maybe taking it away though will help him realize the bigger picture. Hopefully next time I hear his name is about how well he is doing at ucla and not getting in policie chases and potential harm to others. Nah, actually fuck UCLA

And why doesn't the cautionary tale of Matt James come up? Before anyone thinks my posts have been blame oriented. Years later I found out a father (and mother) of a good friend had been right down there when that happened.
I can't help thinking that a 6'8" 300lbs lineman had a flawed thought process when he came to the conclusion that he could fly. Apparently, the police had been doing a yeoman's job at keeping the kids from balcony jumping, but the minute they would detain or arrest one group, another would start.
So, maybe this isn't about good versus evil in a person, maybe this isn't about high notions of character, maybe this is about saving our youngsters from their (our) seventeen-year-old selves?
Just spitballin'!

he is really saying "we are going to have to find someone with a sick Grandmother...hey, it worked once before""I don't know yet. It is something we'll sit down and talk about. I feel very confident that we have the men in place to make it work. We have an excellent staff. I feel comfortable with it."
