We all make mistakes sure, but not all of us do it to the extreme. By all accounts this kid is well thought of, but maybe there are some underlying issues that were omitted from the interviews. Then again, maybe he got to college and let the moment get the best of him. Either way, I hope he cleans up his act. This kind of shit, along with the DGB's and the Joe Mixon's of the world need a little more consequence instead of the coddling and excuses. Just my 0.02

Not "making excuses" but "multiple felonies" is a bit harsh for what sounds like a kid having too much to drink on prom night, getting scared about getting caught (and he has more on the line than most), and running from the cops.
Stupid, yes. But a long way short of the kind of stuff DGB and Joe Mixon are accused of.

That was my thought as well. This could be a case of the cops hitting the young kid hard with charges just to have him plead later to a lesser version of one of the charges. But with drinking and driving involved this does seem more serious than a petty issue. And the way the license issue is reported as not possessing one, maybe he had a license but not on him at the time.

Maybe he is or maybe he is not, time will tell that, but by all accounts those others mentioned were great kids as well until they weren't.

This is crazy. I remember early on in the recruiting process how this kid was being touted as a HIGH character kid, not like the typical elite high school recruit. Then we saw the recruiting game get the best of him. Now this. Shame. I hope he gets his act together before it's too late.

same deal as will mahone really

What? Do you recall what Will Mahone did? Soso had to much to drink on prom night like a lot of teenagers do and made a dumb decision yes. DBG ran a drug cartel basically in Mizzou and Joe Mixon flat our knocked a girl out cold. Maybe I'm just younger then most and showing him to much sympathy but I can understand what Soso is going through and I'm sure like most we made stupid decisions to drink and drive. I firmly believe in second chances and Soso is a great kid and don't want to see his football career taken away. Maybe taking it away though will help him realize the bigger picture. Hopefully next time I hear his name is about how well he is doing at ucla and not getting in policie chases and potential harm to others. Nah, actually fuck UCLA

Exactly! Reps for your presentation, sir!

I thought long and hard before I used the term 'felonies.' But I checked, and starting with drunk driving and evading, they are.

Now I know there is a strong cut 'em a break crowd here, but I was recently called out by a friend that is a college prof (female) that years ago was assaulted by an athlete student, over a grade. She has strong feelings about the situation, as you might guess.

But here is the question she asked me : Where do you draw the line? When does it stop being a nice guy giving the kid a break, and not be about cool, but about growing up and being responsible? When you hit a body count? Could have happened on prom night. We lost classmates that way. The non-compliance? That is a warning signal. After all, that is all the fair minded people of Tallahassee wanted to do!

Clearly, in today's world if you can't afford a 'limo" or can't share one, there are groups that provide transportation to avoid such a situation. So drinking and driving is more avoidable at today's school events than it was in the stone ages!

Doesn't the article say "suspicion" of drinking, and that no breathalyzer was preformed?

Perhaps not drinking, or not drunk. Sounds like the cops flashed the red lights, he sped up while someone tossed out the bottles before they stopped. Would love to see the dashcam tape. Could have been a true chase, or could have been a meh moment.

Curious as to why he does not have a license. Also curious as to why his parents would let him drive (assuming it was his, or his family's truck). Or, could have been acting as a designated driver for the minor. Lots of questions.....

We've all drank when we shouldn't have. Some of us got caught, some of us didn't. Hope he learns a lesson.

Yep, but when we got caught, we didn't flee recklessly lol.

Still wish he was Irish...

Me too. I hate to be the homer that said it, but maybe he wouldn't have been stupid had he been Irish and stayed in touch with our coaches.

Dave Casper said it wasn't like ND forms you by making something out of you that you weren't; It's more like ND attracts you for what is already there, and just lets you become. Something like that . . .

Maybe, but I think I believe that most people have the capacity to be good and/or bad. Ultimately it's a person's choice, but the environment can be a strong means of development of either side. Some people are naturally good, and some are naturally bad. But I think most are somewhere in the middle of the bell curve. Those that are in the middle, or middle-good space can turn a corner in an environment like ND and reach to levels they never thought possible. Those same folks might turn a different way at a football factory. I grew up poor, in a crappy neighborhood. I was blessed that my parents sacrificed and sent me to Catholic school. A lot of my friends that were just as "good" as me, or even better as children, turned down a very different path via public schools.

We aren't saying much different. My real criticism wasn't of Jamabo himself. After all, his actions were just Soso!

It really is how those around him deal with this behavioral element.

Yup! To your point, I think ND would/could have helped him find the good that was already inside him. And again, maybe not. Maybe he would have been a dumb@ss regardless lol.

my point about mahone was that he make a simple mistake and got into an altercation and thne it all escalated there from his reaction to being arrested. I am guessing Soso had the same thing happen and got scared when he realised he was in trouble

It's times like these that I remember the 2012 draft. Experts rated Justin Blackmon higher than Michael Floyd, because they were concerned with Floyd's character and thought Blackmon was a golden pinnacle of good character. Boy, how that assumption blew up in J-Ville's face.

Let's just hope that Soso ends up more like Floyd and less like Blackmon.

And why doesn't the cautionary tale of Matt James come up? Before anyone thinks my posts have been blame oriented. Years later I found out a father (and mother) of a good friend had been right down there when that happened.

I can't help thinking that a 6'8" 300lbs lineman had a flawed thought process when he came to the conclusion that he could fly. Apparently, the police had been doing a yeoman's job at keeping the kids from balcony jumping, but the minute they would detain or arrest one group, another would start.

So, maybe this isn't about good versus evil in a person, maybe this isn't about high notions of character, maybe this is about saving our youngsters from their (our) seventeen-year-old selves?

Just spitballin'!

No its about controlling how much you drink and if you can't then don't. I have seen enough innocent people get injuired or killed because someone else made a bad decision. And you should be punished for it. We ALL have done something extremely dumb at some point. Alcohol is an excuse for people to blame their actions on but in reality it just gave them courage they don't have sobor.

I should probably start a different thread, as this is removed from Jamabo, but was announced that Klemm was suspended for the first two games (Virginia and UNLV)

https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/n...mm-suspended-for-first-2-games-152021881.html

When Mora says (in response to the question of how the OLine will be coached through the first two weeks)
"I don't know yet. It is something we'll sit down and talk about. I feel very confident that we have the men in place to make it work. We have an excellent staff. I feel comfortable with it."
he is really saying "we are going to have to find someone with a sick Grandmother...hey, it worked once before"

Oh well. Don't want felonies? Don't try to outrun the cops in a vehicle.

Sure, we have all made some pretty dumb decisions. But being human(and fallible) doesn't excuse us from the consequences of those decisions. Some, maybe even most, of us were spared from any serious consequences. But I would bet that most of us would have blamed only ourselves, if we had faced serious consquences. Making bad decisions doesn't make you a bad guy. But neither does being a good guy absolve you from responsibility for your actions, should those actions go south.

I firmly believe in second chances and Soso is a great kid and don't want to see his football career taken away.

Perhaps his "second chance" will be a diversion program instead of jail. No one is owed a football career. It's a privilege to play D-IA College Football. And, like all privileges in life, it is subject to being revoked; even for good guys who just make a bad decision.
