You are all correct. i still think he leaves for the NFL after the 2015 season. His "redshirt" junior year.

CRYSTAL BALL

It’s hard to discount all the good things Kelly and Hiestand continue to say about Stanley. And while he’s still young — he’s got three seasons of eligibility left after playing only briefly in 2012 — you’ve got to think the left tackle position is going to take a step backwards this season, with Martin being among the elite players in college football.

That said, Stanley gives the Irish something Martin couldn’t athletically. And while he’s not being asked to lead the unit the way Zack did, he’s got to turn 2014 into a season where he establishes himself as not just a leader, but a frontline player.

The Irish staff believe he’s already that. A solid season against some difficult matchups in 2013 was a great start. But Stanley has the opportunity to be great. He needs to take the biggest step there this season.

He could be Top 10 after his senior year.

Stanley could probably be a first rounder if he comes back one more year. My money is on that scenario.

I see Stanley leaving after next year.

You shut your dirty pirate hooker mouth.

I would hope he wouldn't, but with the trajectory he's on, it's certainly plausible. Especially since no one is drafting 1st/2nd round running-backs so those slots have been [mostly] filled by talented O-linemen.

Probably the fact that he's a senior (redshirt-junior technically), and if he has a great season there really isn't a need to come back, at least in his mind. He'll have earned his degree and not risk a potential serious injury, thus affecting his draft stock which may effect his further career longevity.

OL is one of the positions I feel should stay as long as possible. Stanley would benefit more from getting reps then leaving early. With a degree out of the way, potential to really blow up as he can focus solely on football. Could be a Top 5 pick if he stays.

No, he isn't.

High school class of 2012 means Notre Dame class of 2016. He's an academic Junior, redshirt Sophomore. This would be leaving BEFORE he got his degree (unless he graduates early), and TWO years before the end of his eligibility.

Uhh, he's an academic junior, redshirt sophomore this year. Sherm, was talking about next year, as was I
My bad, misread Sherm's post. I read it as "after this year," not "after next year."

I'm on board with that. I don't consider forgoing a year of eligibility "leaving early" for a player who's graduated.

Huge Stanley fan, but I can't see him leaving after playing 2 years. He's not ready yet. There is no reason to expect him to stay 5 years though. Martin was the exception, not the rule.

Really? When was the last time we had a starting OL leave with eligibilty remaining? Seems like most stick five years.

Martin and Stanley in the nfl will be far different than Niklas's cameo...some get it some dont't

How do you mean? Niklas was a second round pick. He's playing. Maybe not lighting the world on fire just yet, but he's primarily a blocking TE anyway.

What does that mean? That he might be one of the three best NFL tackles in his current class, but would fall below that in the draft? Then wait, right?
