Not sounding good, IMO.

That's how it sounded to me. Almost like it's predetermined that Grace won't play this year, but we don't want to say that out loud or he'll lose incentive to keep making progress.Yeah, imo Kelly sounded much less optimistic about Grace than previously. Maybe it's just me, but I had the impression that he had turned a corner by regaining a normal gait/strike. Today it sounded like they are still working on that.
I might be reading too much into it, but I almost felt like Kelly has been insisting that Grace will play this season just to keep him motivated, not so much because he believes it is a realistic possibility. He admitted he had no timeline for when Grace would be back and that he thinks it is important for Grace to have an immediate goal to work toward.

It's rare for players to come back from something like a torn ACL at 100%. And Grace's injury was so much worse than that-- comminuted fractures to the fibula and tibia. Basically broke both of the major bones in lower leg in multiple places.
He's lucky if he regains the ability to walk without a permanent limp, let alone compete as a Division I athlete. I'll be amazed if he ever sees the field for us again.

This defense can seriously be dangerous next season especially if Day comes back.
The defense was nothing short of great this year until all the injuries started piling up. And with everyone who was a solid contributor returning next year except Riggs...I definitely agree with you here. And Riggs gets replaced by someone who is just as good or better in Russell. As long as we can avoid the injury bug (like we haven't been able to do the last two years) I think the D will be amazing.
I also realize the offenses that we faced the first few games this year weren't great but the D still smothered them. I'm looking for big things from that group next year, especially if Day returns...like you said.
Injuries will kill you every year if they get as bad as they were this year. However, next years team should be much deeper. All these freshman that got playing time should be improved and we'll add Williams, Bonner, and Momwuah to the Dline rotation. Also potentially getting back I. Williams. Next years D is setup for huge success

Hopefully Jarron Jones returns for the entire season as well.
