All of you Negative Nancys will feel the exact opposite of the current lethargic mood as soon as CBreezy catches that first curl route and then takes it the distance with his blazing speed, after using his surprising physicality to shrug off the initial tackler.

Or after Folston makes that first stupid-awesome jump-cut and leaves someone's jockstrap on the ground.

Or after Bryant turns in his first 40+ yard carry and gets all jacked up on camera.

Or after Battering Cam lowers his shoulders through one tackler and then uses that last-ditch, fighting-for-everything straight arm and buries an attempted tackle into the turf.

Or after Sheldon Day makes the first offensive lineman he faces look absolutely foolish on his way to a TFL.

Or after Jaylon makes some sort of incredibly athletic play that no 6'3". 235lb human should realistically be able to make, but he'll do it anyway.

Or after Cody Riggs makes his first huge pass-breakup/INT and celebrates with the guys like he's been on the team for 4 years.

That's when yall will get excited.

If you started drinking at 8am in the Stadium Lot, you'd be excited for every season just like me.

It's fucking Notre Dame football. Pull your tampon out, Lax, and get excited! This roller coaster only happens a few Saturdays a year. Embrace it and booze your face off.

Haha, this (kind of ... tampon line maybe a bit harsh?).

I'm headed to the Bend on Friday night to meet some old friends for a boozy football weekend and I cannot freaking wait.

My enthusiasm for ND football could not possibly be dampened by the academic investigation, any nonsense about vacating wins, or even really whether we will be good or not. I'm a ND fan for basically historical reasons, and my excitement for football season comes from the ritual of getting together with friends to share the cathartic, emotional experience of watching the games on the edge of our seats, hanging on every play. Just having ND to root for is what I really love. As long as the games are happening, I'm fucking pumped.

I don't care about no investigation. I don't care about no suspensions.

Football back.

I enjoy watching ND too much to not be excited. I start waiting for this sh*t as soon as the national championship ends. I don't care who's dressing, who's starting at what position; it's ND football, and it means I will unleash the passion of 1,000 suns every gameday.

Right.

I'm absolutely excited, more so than other years. The investigation was a sock in the gut for sure, especially with the defense predicated on the corners locking down their targets.

But the way I see it, the cheating scandal are players that don't love this team....But that hasn't changed my love for this team.

what I find exciting:

-the OL depth (OL depth typically isn't something to get exited about, but ND hasnt had it in FOREVER)
-a more streamlined offensive playbook (not any pocket passers on the roster to account for)
-the Running Game - Forston, McDaniel, Bryant
-The aggressive defense scheme (hopefully it works)
-Contributions from 'new' players: RedField, Morgan, Trumbetti, Riggs, etc.

What's the weather report? Looking like a big storm will be hitting the area.

A big storm of Golson and company. I have heard that Folston and Bryant will bring the lightening and Cam will bring the thunder.

Jaylon will rain down on offensive players.

A thunderstorm will rain down on rice for sure.

I'm not all that excited. More excited than I was going into 2013 however. We all knew 12-0 wasn't going to be repeated with Rees unfortunately. It's partly the 4 players in limbo and partly the fact that it seems like 10 wins is our max this season.

I know I'll be jacked up for Michigan, and if we start off 2-0, I'll be dreaming of an 11-1 or 12-0 season like any delusion fan boy.

There are some things to be excited for:

QB: Return of Golson
RB: GB/TF in the backfield
WR: Brown/Fuller/Carlisle providing elite speed

DL: So many frosh playing. Can't wait to see Day/Jones also
LB: Jaylon is future Top-5 pick. Gotta enjoy him
S: Can't wait to see what Redfield can do

I feel just like Lax. It just feels like one more giant "what-if" season.

To use a small sample size, imagine if we had had Matt James, Tee Shepard, and Eddie Vanderdose! Kelly can't win for trying, and the only thing that matters to 99.99% of college football fans is winning.

Although I will say that Coach D's man-crush on Cole Luke has gotten me feeling a little better.

Anyone else in this boat?

I think it's mostly the stupid academic investigation and the specter of this idiot administration vacating wins. It's also a large part having so many question marks and completely unproven commodities that could be anywhere from great to awful.

I think I won't be excited until we're either demolishing Rice and Golson has 4 first half TDs to go along with 2 sacks from Jaylon, or we're past Michigan 2-0. But my switch has not flipped yet... I even found myself accidentally making plans for this Saturday and completely not appreciating there'd be a game on.

I agree that the academic investigation is a downer. The bold part though is what has me excited for the season to start. To me that is what is great about college football as there is so many unknowns every year and I can't wait to see how they all turn out. Bring on the season, bitches.

a whole bunch of switches will be flipped when the bend is jumping in the coming saturday and the 80,000 are stirring echoes at night.

and then all bets are off when number 98 can't hear himself think on 3rd and 8 and burns a timeout.

poetic id say.

lets fucking go boys.

Am I the only one who's not super bummed about losing the guys we lost? The thing that would kill me about the investigation would be if we vacated wins, but I'm really not that concerned about the impact it will have on our 2014 season. We lost two "meh" players and we have very talented backups at the positions of the other two, not to mention the fact that WR and DB are two of the most "plug and play" positions on the field. I would have been much more concerned if the names being investigated were Day, Elmer, Martin, and Koyak.

I'm pumped for college football as a whole because of the playoffs and whatnot. But not excited about our season yet.

However the second I step foot on campus for Michigan I will be amped.

Not to mention that with every stupid administration decision it pushes BK out the door a little bit more. I'm almost to the point where I just expect to wake up one day and BK is in the NFL, feeling relief.

This is the first time in year's that I'll be able to watch an entire game in peace. I'll be driving home from vacation in Daytona Beach, but i"m leaving when I first wake up because I'm so excited for the start of the season. It's ND football, I'm excited for every game no matter what our record is.

Maybe, I was super-bummed. I loved KR and he is a potential first-day draft pick. DD is a gamer. Ishaq was absolutely necessary for depth.

But Golson, Day, Jones, or Smith would have been merciless.

Just curious, but have you lived in Florida for long? I was there for three seasons ('11, '12, '13) and I had this exact problem every single one of them. I couldn't get in the mood of football when the weather was flat-out wrong for the first two months of the season.

If we lose/don't play well against Rice/ and lose to Michigan that could break me for good.

I always try to watch Rudy the night before the first game. I'll probably chipper up after that.

I've been getting excited about seasons with way less excitement than this one for two decades. You would think Ty was leading a squad of two star recruits onto the field.

You're too close to it, my friend.

I understand the high, but for me,

I try to let the game take me back

to a simpler time.

The actual game is still interesting.

All the rest is out of my control.

Enjoy whatever is left before it all burns.

I am more excited for tailgating than the game to be honest. This is the least excited I have ever been for football. Gotta enjoy it though since Kelly will get out of dodge after this year.

I'm with you Lax...but for different reasons...
I've got a stupid wedding for a close cousin on Saturday...and then on Michigan Saturday a fundraising gig with both bands that I'm in.

Kind of disheartening.
Knocked the wind right outta my sails.

My friend, you could not be more wrong,
The Irish will roll right along.
They'll win through December
And then you'll remember
The day that I wrote you this song.

I truly could not be more excited. It probably has more to do with the fact that I will be going back to campus for the first time since graduating. But I am also excited for the season to start so the only story associated with ND is no longer this academic investigation. Let's play some football, see what the rest of our incredibly talented team can do, and win some football games! Oh and muck fichigan!

I think a bit of the excitement was diminished with the loss of three starters but I'm still excited.

Golson is back.
We finally get to see Greg Bryant.
Tarean in year two.
New WRs/TEs.

Completely overhauled defense.

At least it'll be exciting because we really don't know what to expect. My nerves will be sky high, almost like our opener in Dublin. I was preparing myself for a let down and I'm doing that again this year. The first 4-5 games will tell us ALOT about this team.

I'm excited for what we find out!
