UNC parts ways with three scholarship players, another's status in doubt

Senior defensive tackle Shawn Underwood, redshirt freshman defensive tackle Greg Webb and sophomore linebacker Clint Heaven are no longer on the North Carolina football team, a team spokesman said on Wednesday.

All three players were on scholarship, and Underwood was listed on the Tar Heels' preseason depth chart as a possible starter at defensive tackle. The status of another scholarship player, sophomore offensive guard J.J. Patterson, is unclear, said Kevin Best, the UNC football spokesman.

Patterson will not be among the 105 players who practice with the team on Friday when UNC beings preseason camp. The loss of Underwood and Webb, meanwhile, leaves Ethan Farmer, a senior, as the only remaining player who ended the spring on the depth chart at defensive tackle.

Here are two possible reasons:

I don't know why I keep forgetting that Stanford is before UNC but you are correct ...as far as the other one, im sorry but I cannot accept that we lose to them again this year. regardless though we CAN win those games.

Switzer is a tremendous athlete, but I think the convoys he had running down the sidelines on a few of those returns is even more impressive. He made his fair share of coverage guys miss, and he's got great start-and-go skills to go with speed and vision, but he was the beneficiary of outstanding blocking. Whoever coaches special teams at UNC is doing a fantastic job.

That would be a shame, because he was a really good college corner. He was to small to play corner in the NFL, but he was one hell of a college corner.

Made a nice niche for himself returning kicks and punts in the NFL. Not sure how long he stuck but he put in a few years. Awesome Rossum, great memories!

He was a pro bowler in 2004 and I believe he won the title of fastest NFL player at the pro bowl that year.
