Is there a backup plan?

Don't want to lose this kid, but we're in good shape on the line, so it won't hurt as much as a few other positions. Better have Father Hesburgh give him a call.

I guess we'll just have to see on this one. Things were looking up at the Opening, but then this. I hate to pile on kids for taking visits since those are such an opportunity, but it does kind of run counter to the idea of being committed.

Hopefully he enrolls in January, and we'll all be worried about nothing.

Are you guys serious right now? He always said he was going to take an OV to LSU. He said it before The Opening, he said it during The Opening, and he's saying it now.

I don't have access to that article but I know he has also mentioned taking OVs to Stanford and Texas, among others. He's been very upfront about this.

My bad, guess I missed that news in all the back and forth. If it's nothing new, then that's better, but I hadn't realized he was so set on the OVs. Since he's already setting those up, has he picked a game for an ND visit?

Besides LSU, he mentioned A&M

Seems like I am not the only one irritated by all this.

@ The Poimbino, My head is not in the sand, if anything, it is the people who are too scared to look up that have their heads in the sand.

It was completely fair for members to question Blake's commitment when things starting popping up but that is also a little different. Blake was quiet for months after he committed, then all of a sudden started talking to other schools. We ALL knew Tillery's situation before he even committed to ND:

- LSU was recruiting him hard and being the home school, that is formidable
- He goes to LSU regularly with friends or for other reasons, thought I heard he took some type of test in the area of LSU campus, when reporters asked about the unofficial visit, he said we was not even there for football reasons.
- His parents "allegedly" favor LSU over ND (Though it has been reported that his mom still likes ND)

We knew all this before he committed, nothing has really changed, he committed in spite of all these factors already in place.

Am I guaranteeing Tillery signs with ND? Hell no, but as of right now, nothing indicates he is wavering, yet this thread gets comments every week about it. That is all I am saying, I dont believe this is homerism at all, I simply do not see anything that resembles past decommits.

You're entitled to your opinion, but some of things you're expressing here just aren't very accurate. His recruitment closely resembles a number of kids who has committed to ND while saying "I'm still going to take all of my visits."

The excuses for the other visits to LSU are fine. You can believe it's just coincidence that he was there for their spring game AND something else, and that he was there for junior day AND something else... but he pulled no punches on his most recent visit that occurred pre Irish Invasion. It was an unofficial 100% for football reasons and nothing more.

For just one recent example of many Ronald Darby was on the surface 100% all ND at this point "but going to take all of his visits." He took his visits and then went elsewhere. On what level does this NOT resemble Jerry Tillery except that Darby took less unofficial visits over the summer?

Like I mentioned earlier it's not just LSU either. I know Stanford and Texas are in this. Those are schools that have come up since last winter. There are probably others he's talking to as well. We "lead" and he currently intends to attend Notre Dame and I don't doubt he'd sign with ND today if given the option... but he's very open to many other schools. And that fact shouldn't be downplayed. It makes him a huge decommitment risk.

I don't know the answer but I can almost guarantee he is going to OV to ND. Like 95% sure. This is really nothing to freak out about.

Yeah this isn't anything new fellas. Tillery is a great kid that fits what Notre Dame represents. We know it, and he knows it. If he doesn't end up here, so be it, but most of the recruiting experts as of late have been saying they feel he will stick. Let the process run it's course.

But I thought some of you said nothing to worry about?

Look, nobody has any real idea what he wants to do. He has been saying the right things and still sticking to his commitment but LSU was going to be a thorn in the side this entire time. The writing has been on the wall and we tried to warn some of you.

Now, he is the one kid who would stick to ND. Remember, he said he grew up an ND fan. He has the Hoge family in his ear. He has stuck to his guns for a long time. You just can't sit there and say nothing to see when its a 60/40 prop right now.

Bye week for the Stanford game

From over a month ago for the Koon (and anyone else who thinks this is news about an OV to LSU). It had also been reported long before this.

It's a stupid question because:
1. Duh.
2. He's discussed it eleventy billion times.
3. His OV plans have already been discussed in this very thread, which I know you've read.

I missed GB's post from 5 weeks ago.

Thanks again!

Well to be honest, I did not know he had all these officials lined up, this does cause me some concern.

however, Darby is still a different case. I am not really talking about Tillery saying "he is 100% committed, blah blah blah." I am saying he committed to ND with most of these "causes for concern" already in place.

When he committed to ND:
- He had visited the local in-state powerhouse school multiple times
- He had friends going there
- His parents favored him going to LSU

We knew all of that when he committed, yet he still committed to ND, so it is much different than Darby, and I cannot think of a recent decommit that resembles that.

However, I am not as solid on Tillery as I thought with all these officials scheduled. I am glad to see him taking an official to ND still. The optimist in me thinks he is using some of these officials just to go to some games. What has he not seen at LSU already?

I agree with most everything you say here. Tillery is a really unique person by all accounts. The thing that comforts me is that if he DOES stick with ND he's not going to be the kind of guy you worry about flaking out. And he's at a position of luxury not need... if he sticks that's awesome, but if he doesn't we've recruited well enough on the OL, IMO.

And he's an EE so if we did have to scramble for options, we'd at least have a few weeks to get a plan B in place.

1 & 3 aren't accurate.

Ehhhh to #1 he had definitely visited LSU (and had an offer from LSU) before he picked ND.

To #3, I don't know if we can say what his parents' perceptions were or weren't at the time internally. I'm not sure anyone really knows what to make of them right now.

I think a major difference is the warning signs. There was growing discontent between Darby and the staff. While we all had an uneasiness of him visiting other schools it wasn't really oh shit mode until it was discovered about him wanting more attention from Alford (maybe Cooks?) and staff. In Tillerys case there have been numerous reports about his affinity for ND and the relationship he has with our coaches
