Ha, I never considered you would be a Reds fan, but it does make sense given the Kentucky background. I'm about 30-40 minutes from Cincinnati myself...but I grew up about an hour from Cleveland, so I have the misfortune of being indoctrinated as an Indians fan. The good news is that I rarely watch much baseball these days, football is about the only sport I seriously care about. I have made it to Cinci to see a couple Reds games though.

I actually lived in Lebanon for a while right out of college. My cousin's company there had box seats to the Reds so I took advantage of it as much as they would let me. I,too, do not watch as much baseball as before, but do get to Atlanta to catch a game or two each season. It usually involves taking some of the youth from church but it gives me a good excuse with the wife. As far as the Indians, I would listen to Pete Franklin on the AM radio back when I was a kid. For some reason, I always liked his show.

Small world, Lebanon is the next city over from me, and a number of my sister-in-laws live there.

I have been hanging out in this site for a couple years now and decided it was time to put on my big boy pants on and start posting. I have been an Irish fan since the early 70's growing up in Alabama. I became a die hard after watching the 1973 Sugar Bowl with my dad and uncle. They were drinking Rebel Yell and after the win they ran through the apartment complex banging pots and pans screaming "Lets go Irish." I was hooked!

I'd say welcome, but it sounds like you've been here awhile ha. Always good to have new posters though, so I guess I will say "welcome aboard!"

I am a long time lurker who has attend at least 3 usc home games per season for the last decade and every game ND has played in south central since 1996. Always decked out in Irish gear and rooting against usc (in a respectful manner of course).

While I didn't attend ND and have never even been to South Bend, my ND roots run deep. Ivan Mestrovic was a close friend with my great grandfather in Split, Croatia. When my grandfather immigrated to Chicago he had no choice but to root for ND. While all of my extended family are Irish fans, my fandom is especially strong since I grew up in the USC stronghold of Huntington Beach.

Anyways, I look forward to getting involved in the discussions.
Go Irish and whoever is playing usc!

... Ivan Mestrovic was a close friend with my great grandfather in Split, Croatia.

Funny you should mention Mestrovic. To fulfill a fine arts requirement. I opted for wood carving – I knew that I couldn't paint for shit and photography (my real choice) was not an option. I figured that wailing away on a chunk of wood with a mallet and sharp tools might be fun and a good way to blow off steam. Hell, one of my pieces was displayed for a while in a case in the library. When I saw it there I got a kick out of eavesdropping on people admiring and commenting on it.

It was a breaking wave carved from black walnut. The white outer band of the wood and rich, dark core lent itself to my attempt at a breaking wave. What made the comments "interesting" is that because the case wasn't deep enough so it was displayed standing on end. Any resemblance to a breaking wave was lost.

The point to my trip down memory lane is that the highlight of the class to me was a trip to his house. We met his widow and had the chance to get "up close and personal" with a number of his works not in museums or on campus.

Alas, my "masterpiece was lost when the house I'd lived in junior year (and was supposed to live in senior year) was torched over the summer when it was empty. It made for a rough start to my final year. None of us knew and pulling up to a burned out shell after a 22 hour drive was disconcerting to say the least.
