Yep just got that update.... Damn
Going to IU.

"...Sykes’ transfer out of Notre Dame was not compulsory for any reason and he could have remained with the program."
can everyone take a deep breath now in attacking ND?
kid left on his own

I do not know why he is leaving and i do not care; but Indiana is switching to a 34 defense this year so maybe he really was seeking a school that is a better fit for him.
That is one strong possibility. Thanks for that information!
FIFY
Two different ideas need to be separated in a sentence. If they are independent, complete by themselves, a semi-colon is best. Dependent and independent, feel free to use a comma.
When usin a team or school like "Indiana" as a noun, it remains singular. You would use is instead of are.
IU runs the "wait until basketball season" defense.
...but I was taught a comma is used before a conjunction, not a semicolon.
good luck to him.
hope this doesn't bite us in the rear in the short term and long term, but happy for the kid either way that he gets to play and possibly right away in bloomington
OK, Beau, and for the sake of clarity, would not "... a comma, not a semicolon, is used." have been a better sentence construction?
I've been "schooled" on the Oxford Comma, so I now know, respect, and adhere to the dogma when sober.
Is there a Cambridge Semicolon commandment to which I'm not privy?
A period will do in a pinch when undecided, should it come down to a question of "semicolon or comma?"
Go with the flow. Just self-proofread critically to ensure that no unintended ambiguity exists. Intentional ambiguity; carefully crafted, is acceptable.
I wanted to rep you, but it says I need to spread some around first, so I must have repped you recently, because "...when sober" made me laugh really hard!
So TP what's the scoop. What happened here with Sykes? Seniorites?
I am not saying this is what happend
But does anyone else think Nile just looked at the depth chart or the switch to the 4-3 defense and maybe just said this isn't for me? That is what others are suggesting but I am just wondering if it's not academics then could this be it?
Or maybe we just pulled a Bama and cut him.
I would take 5 Nile Sykes' each class.
Neither of those. Come on dude. Guy is all-ND, wanted the offer bad, knew the same depth chart and DC when he signed. Had nothing but the right attitude in his short stint on campus and then had the rug pulled out from under him.
We won't ever have the specifics in a formal press release or report... whether it was a class, test scores, or something he did after enrolling or whatever... but it wasn't "fit" and was academic.
