Lucky I was just about to post that. I liked Tyson Williams a little more but Josh Adams is a good "big" back for this offense. Still kind of wonder why PSU wouldn't let him committ

They are full at rb, already have two, if they were to take him it would have been at LB.

This is a bit puzzling...I trust the staff, but I guess I thought we were after some bigger fish. Maybe we got a good db here...

Just watched the jr film and it seems he is just learning the game...goes down pretty easily..looks like a balance thing?

No intensity though...tall and skinny...not a good pass blocking combo...

He has a burst getting to the edge though:)

Played only four games for Coach Dave Rackovan, before going down to a knee injury his junior year. Most of Josh's tape is from a spectacular sophomore season. Rackovan and Hiestand have history, and may account for the attention Josh Adam's recruitment has received from the Notre Dame coaching staff.

At this point I'm assuming we've tossed 85-man-limit worries to the wind and are taking all the quality depth kids we can, figuring some of them will develop into studs.
And while some of them won't, some of them will, and we'll be better off in the long run then spending all sorts of time and effort on the five-star flakes of recent classes who've been gone by their sophomore years. Fine by me.
But we should still go after another RB in this class, as it appears we are.

From what I've seen, he is developed from a running back standpoint, but still very raw in terms of his physique. He has a good frame to build on, and has at least decent power, though he needs to work on his balance. Doesn't necessarily go down easy but he usually loses his balance after getting hit low. He showed quite a good bit as a Sophomore at 175-185, so I think he'll be able to do a lot more when his frame is more filled out.

If his knee is solid I think he is going to be fine. He has good instincts and i like his burst.

Finally got around to watching his film in earnest. Has truly great burst for his size. Was not expecting that, there may be a lot of WRs his size with similar burst but I guess you don't see them carrying the ball out of the backfield.

Very similar to Ty Isaac, IMO. Not sure which is better. Isaac had a better frame but all kinds of other issues. If Josh comes back 100% he could be a steal. And if he can't develop as a RB he is one heck of an OLB or S prospect... doesn't have blazing top end speed but covers ground really quickly. If he was running a 40, he'd cover yards 5 to 20 really fast.

What's going to differentiate him between being a bust and being an All-American is how much he can bulk up. His gaunt features make that questionable, and he clearly needs to get up to around 230. He doesn't run with great balance or power right now. He's not a violent runner who loves contact and breaks tackles. He needs to become that kind of guy, but he's not just going to elude defenders in college. But I see why we'd want him because even if he doesn't pan out at RB he has great versatility to make an impact elsewhere.

"IE Gaunt Player of the Year" shoe-in! What is wrong here?

This kid is 208-210 verified. He is 6'2" tall.

gaunt adjective \ˈgȯnt, ˈgänt\
: very thin usually because of illness or suffering
: plain and unpleasant in appearance : desolate and gloomy

You either, don't like him; you are worried that the coaching staff is screwing the pooch this year; you don't know what gaunt means; you don't give a seventeen year old that may be a tad more awkward than average a hard time; you still haven't forgiven him for wearing Penn State gear to South Bend, or something else I fail to recognize.

Seriously, I have seen gaunt. Guys coming out of a jungle at 5'10 and 120lbs. That is gaunt. I feel the use of that adjective is a negative indicator as to this kids value per posters on this thread. Not a biggie; there is nothing wrong with that on general principle.

But this kid is an explosive player with a bunch of talent and a high ceiling. I think the sky is the limit in this offense because I believe he has hands, and by filling in to a 210 lb athlete (+30 lbs.,) he has shown he can bulk without gaining bad weight.

Kind of like Jaylon Smith. I saw him play in high school at just over 200lbs. There was no comparison in seeing him last year at 230! As good as he is, he still added a Division 1 bang with that weight; bigger player, just as if not more explosive, (see SC interception.)

This is another kid that has that bulk-ability. As far as the gear, without being condescending or gauche, I think the Pen State gear was not intended to insult.

Oft times we expect everyone we come in contact with to have the same experiential base as we do, including resources and life experiences. Often others do not. I think that another positive with Josh is how far he has come from where and what he started with, and through what (ACL, etc.) he has persevered. I celebrate that with Josh.

What would you say about this kid?

Woke up feeling really good about this pick-up today! We are getting a kid that has great potential at RB, but if that doesn't work out is talented enough to switch sides of the ball. The more I think about it, the more I love the class. Not big on star power, but big time as far as getting football players that are gonna get us a lot of wins! The way this year is going combined with last years class, I think we will be 10+ wins over the next several years. The big thing is having Everett and Malik moving forward, but the supporting cast will surprise.

I hate this semantics shit. Your dictionary definition of gaunt does not encompass how it is colloquially used to describe physical appearance today. For example: Going for the Gaunt: How Low Can an Athlete's Body Fat Go? - Scientific American

I selected the term because it accurately defines his facial features. He has a very thin facial structure with clearly defined bone structure with minimal facial fat. The term was introduced as Rocket89 said there was "no way he was over 200 pounds" and I said I thought he was bigger than 200, and that the optical illusion that makes him seem smaller than he is was related to his gaunt facial features. This was an accurate descriptor.

There are many people (James Franklin comes to mind) that believe your ability to add good mass is directly related to head size, hand size, etc. (i.e. your extremities). They believe that big headed, thick necked kids have the best ability to carry weight well. Which is why it was introduced later.

You're not wrong that the root of gaunt has to do with malnutrition/desolation, but in modern times it is also used to refer to any defined/chiseled feature. Synonyms for gaunt include lean and angular per dictionary.com. Would you argue with any of those being used to describe his face?

Just my personal opinion on how his frame may or may not allow him to add good bulk and strength. Not a big deal. Sorry I picked an adjective that caused you heartburn.

He has two things going for him, modern medicine and his age. He'll recover just fine.

The scary part is that he does not run like a big back. He runs high and occasionally is ankle tackled. He definitely has the ability to improve, but I definitely am not as high on him as the staff (GAIII) nightmares.

This kid can definitely catch the ball though.

Oh absolutely I agree he can catch and he could be a stud once he gets here. I really want to see how he develops because right now it looks like he dominates because he is bigger than everyone even though he runs like he is 170 pounds and a wide receiver.

GA could never bend and flex with his base under him like Josh can. There is no comparison between the two, other than Josh is an inch taller and GA may have been a bit faster at the top end.
