My buddy just told me Belgium has a significant number of Muslim players. Does anyone know if there is a modified Ramadan policy for athletes?

I was just reading an article about this. Strict observers are just extra mindful of their water intake and their diet, while some will "make up" for the days that they don't observe Ramadan.

I have a question for everyone here. I'd love to hear some input. What do you all think of repotting for the the knockout stage? Putting the group winners in one pot, and then the teams that finished second in another.

Thoughts?

Interesting. Very interesting. I like it, but I also like that in the current system two teams from the same group are automatically sent to opposite sides of the bracket to avoid rematches.

Also rest comes to mind. The US playing on 2 days rest vs. Brazil/Netherlands, etc. on 5-6 days rest a big advantage to groups A, B and C.

Could it then be broken up into four pots?

Pot 1 is group winners A-D
Pot 2 is group winners E-H
Pot 3 is runner ups A-D
Pot 4 is runner ups E-H

Pot 1 and Pot 4 get matched and 2 and 3 matched.

It's similar to the system of today, but still regroups everything.

I'm not familiar with the World Cup format. How would this be better?

This went over as expected, and the people acting the most offended aren't even Mexican of course, they're (gasp) American!

The system is already set up for Group winner X will play Group runner up Y, so, in a sense teams can get a real unfair draw or a real lucky one just based on the groups they are assigned from the beginning. With repotting the teams it's almost like a fresh start and a little more fair for all teams.

He just needs to do the classy thing and move on. Getting really tired of hearing about Donovan. No sake in tarnishing his legacy.

My friend, a native Mexican, just called and said that FIFA is voting tonight on possibly allowing a draw between the Netherlands and Mexico to allow the game to continue into extra minutes.

Anyone heard of that?

Anybody watching the game? Was the Nigerian actually offsides? I turned it on right as they were showing the last replay of the goal.

Don't really understand this first half so far. When the US play Nigeria in early June with essentially the World Cup starting lineups, the US dominated and Nigeria looked inept. Nigeria I think looks quite good today.

One and dones man... how many times out of ten can Mexico take The Dutch to the brink like that??? Not many... one and dones.
