I agree the WR sees the field before the QB, so who the QB in his class doesn't immediately matter.

But that WR is going to make his 'money' mostly in his junior/senior year, not so much as a freshman/sophomore, so I'd be more concerned with who's going to be my QB during the later years.

I'm not saying the freshman/sophomore campaigns for WRs is irrelevant, just that having a big junior/senior year is more important than having a solid freshman/sophomore year and never building on it.

No disagreement there.

Fifteen most explosive players in 2015 class

Ryan Newsome posted a 4.56 40-yard dash and 4.15 shuttle at the Dallas NFTC, and won state in the 100 with a 10.51, having run a wind-aided 10.38 earlier in the season. Lining up at quarterback, running back and receiver for a state championship team that broke the national scoring record, Newsome rushed 83 times for 826 yards and eight touchdowns along with 21 receptions for 532 yards and 10 touchdowns. But it was his return ability that made headlines, with the junior tying a national record with seven punt returns for a touchdown. Few, if any, can reach top speed as quickly as Newsome can, making him one of the most electrifying prospects in the 2015 cycle.

On the west coast visiting USC and UCLA

I read somewhere if it was up to him he would have visited ND already.

Correct, because ND isn't near any other schools of interest they have to make it a separate trip. Hopefully he makes it this summer but at least we already get an OV.

LOVED his visit to USC and UCLA...they will DEF factor into his recruitment until the end he said...Sark was also the 1st recruiter to reach out to him as a freshman when at Udubb...funny quote : “I don’t mean any disrespect, but if Lane Kiffin was still the head coach here, I wouldn’t even consider USC,” Newsome said.

insider Ryan Newsome moves USC Trojans, UCLA Bruins high up his list - ESPN

@AnnaHScout: RT @GregBiggins: Aledo (Texas) WR Ryan Newsome breaks down #UCLA #USC visits, #Oregon up next Scout.com - College and High School Football, Basketball, Recruiting, NFL, and MLB Front Page

Basically the same as the ESPN article above. He had a great time at both places. I'd say UCLA possibly a little better as he will OV there and maybe to USC. Commented he can't wait for the UCLA and ND OVs. He will wait until after all of his OVs to commit because he doesn't want to "de-commit and leave a school hanging". Visiting Oregon today and UT is the only Texas school he has interest in.

That's refreshing to read... I have a lot of respect for the kids that seem to take into consideration the responsibility they have to these schools that are offering them their education.

Loy's talked to Newsome a few times this week.

He really wanted to make it to II, but couldn't make it with his mom, and so he won't be here.

Newsome said he's so high on ND that his mom wants to make sure she's with on his first visit because she thinks he could commit on his first visit and she doesn't want him doing that without her seeing the school first.

Guyton and Feretti are all over him.

Will be here for Michigan game with both parents.

That is fantastic! Really wish they could have made it in this week, but that news totally changes mood from the lack of news thus far! Reps!

I think that update is really promising, and Loy says we're a real player here obviously.

But this is an elite recruit and he's getting interest from everywhere. Before he makes it to campus, I'd take everything with a grain of salt. But it's great that he's set for the OV with his parents.

I'm not getting my hopes up until it's Sept. 6th and he's actually here.

Yeah, he recently went on a west coast trip so I'm not putting a lot of stock into this until he actually steps foot on campus.

I don't think we're in that great of a position for these guys. I think ESB is a tough pull depending on how certain things shake out, in a multi-horse race for Ofodile, in a closer race than most appreciate for Boykin, and Newsome has half the country after him. I think you take whoever wants to come whenever they want to sign up and worry about it later. I'm doubtful that in any scenario we get more than 2 of them.

Loy's update yesterday was awesome, but that's a tough top 5.

You got the hometown Longhorns, Oklahoma and Oregon will naturally be attractive for an explosive player like Newsome, and UCLA is always a wildcard, especially with the intrigue of playing with Josh Rosen.

Not getting my hopes up until Sept. 6th.

Almost. Like, 4/5 chance?

Haha yeah that's only 80% I suppose. Damnit.

Edit: My point being that he's keeping Texas in there to keep support from his home state. I think he's going West.

I'll word it like this..ND is in his Top 5 without having seen it. Just hearing about it from guys like Nico, Hoge and Guyton have helped. He knows what an ND degree gets him.

Great relationship with UCLA.

Oregon is childhood favorite.

Texas isn't far away.

Oklahoma has a history of success with the slot WR.

ND's official is for the Michigan game.
