I said this last year and got laughed at, but agree. He's a physical specimen a I always thoight he was better than Lee.

I'm going to flip out on Longo if we punt to him this year. He almost torched us last year and when he's crossing the field, it looks like he's playing against D3 athletes.

What does Longo have to do with the punting game?

Damn. Feldman usually doesn't hype up teams for no reason. Was hoping for an 8-win or worse debut from Sark but Feldman seems pretty high on their offense.

I disagree somewhat with Bruce. I was asked about this yesterday on ISD, and in the interest of time, I'll repost what I thought about their spring game:

Well, like any spring game, was one side THAT good, or the other side THAT bad? Or like in most instances, a little bit of both?

I can tell you that they were missing LOTS of really important players, including future AA's in Cravens and Williams, as well as their top 3 RB's and a couple of O-linemen (although I personally don't think A. Walker will be back next year; not only is he injured but is MASSIVELY behind academically and might even enter the supplemental draft). With the incoming freshmen, there will be 38 players in fall camp that weren't playing in the spring game (assuming everyone gets back healthy and eligible).

Anyway, about the game, the defense KILLED the offense...badly. The offense looked completely shitty, and a lot of it had to do with their porous offensive line going up against IMO a potentially outstanding defensive line (and wait until Leonard Williams gets back), as well as their top RBs being dinged and not playing. It was funny/embarrassing because they had a couple of TD's staged where a 10 yr old threw a TD pass and another man came on later and got a TD (I don't know the circumstances...I'm sure it was something to do with a charity or a feel-good story); the problem was those were the ONLY TDs the offense put up in the first half, and that was with the ball being place on the defense's 40 yard-line every drive.

So they couldn't run the ball and they couldn't pass protect until the 2nd half when their 3rd string QB came in (kinda like a Zaire type, but more raw, less powerful of a runner but more quick/elusive) and he lit up the 2nd teamers and walk-ons. Other than that though, it was all about the defense.

Cody Kessler clearly won the job this spring over Max Browne and I actually think he'll do a good job, IF they can give him time. Agholar is ridiculously good, and their RB's are also fantastic, but you saw what happened when they played a d-line that could get after them like ND did...they were AWFUL. So for me, their season is going to depend on their O-line. They have a great new O-line coach from the Niners, but the talent is just not there across the board in the upperclassmen, and the true talent is REALLY young. So we'll see.

More than 150 recruits were on hand at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday for the USC spring game, an indication that the Trojans and their new coaching staff are again drawing plenty of interested eyes.

[+] EnlargeMarshall
Blair Angulo/ESPN
Iman Marshall, the No. 20 overall prospect, is one of many recruits who visited USC for its spring game on Saturday.
Perhaps the most striking interaction came when USC quarterback commit Ricky Town arrived on the sideline and made sure the first recruit he greeted was four-star cornerback Iman Marshall, another top priority for the Trojans. Town intends to be a major recruiter in the 2015 class, and there might not be a more prized target than Marshall, so Town’s beeline toward him was meaningful in many ways.

Defensive lineman Noah Jefferson of Las Vegas Liberty was the biggest out-of-state recruit to make an appearance. USC has not offered Jefferson a scholarship, but there is significant interest from both sides. Jacob Daniel was another highly-rated defensive lineman in attendance.

Offensive tackle Roy Hemsley spearheaded a group of linemen that also included Zach Robertson, Bar Milo and 2016 standout Frank Martin II. Hemsley, who sits atop USC’s board at his position, was impressed by the vibe.

“What stood out to me was how big the support system is, especially since the spring game is just a live practice,” Hemsley said. “They have continued to recruit me and let me know I'm very high on their radar.”

Inside linebacker Cameron Smith might have been the most analytical recruit at the Coliseum, using the opportunity to check out USC’s depth at his position.

“They don't have many guys at inside linebacker, especially not run-stoppers,” Smith said. “I loved the tempo and coaching staff. Everything was great. I felt some love and attention; coach Peter Sirmon was even explaining what my role would be on some plays during 7-on-7. That was cool as well.”

Defensive back might have been the most loaded group, with Marshall, Marvell Tell, DeChaun Holiday, Isaiah Langley, Colin Samuel and Jihree Stewart leading the long list. Brandon Burton, Micah Croom and C.J. Pollard represented the 2016 class.

“I love the atmosphere that they create when they are out there,” said Stewart, who has drawn comparisons to USC signee John Plattenburg. “It seems like a great place for football. I spoke with coach Keith Heyward and they are going to come watch me practice in the next couple weeks.”

As for the offensive skill positions, wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, running back Malik Lovette and 2016 athlete Dylan Crawford were some of the notable names.

“The atmosphere was very intense,” St. Brown said. “I talked to coach Steve Sarkisian, coach Tee Martin and a couple others. Coach Martin told me they have only offered six wide receivers, and I’m one of the big ones.”

Local defensive end Christian Rector had to leave early, so he didn’t have similar conversations with the staff. But he has been hearing his share of recruiting pitches from former high school teammate Chris Brown, a four-star offensive tackle who signed with the Trojans in February.

“My takeaway was probably seeing the coaches react with the players and watching the defense in action,” Rector said. “Chris and I always talk about USC, and he seems really excited about attending in the fall. I don’t have a timeline for a decision yet, though. I’m still open.”

WeAreSC recruiting roundup

" Keisean Lucier-South visited campus on Friday for the first time since the coaching change, getting a tour of the facilities and academic buildings. The highly-rated defensive end said he thoroughly enjoyed his conversations with the coaches, who assured him he is one of their “top guys to get,” regardless of position.

" UCLA running back commit Bolu Olorunfunmi of Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North took in the game. USC has not offered the three-star prospect a scholarship, but he emerged as a potential target shortly after national signing day. The Trojans did not sign a running back in the 2014 class.

" No. 3-rated offensive tackle Chuma Edoga, who visited campus earlier this month, wrote on his Twitter account he would announce a commitment on Monday afternoon, with USC being among the four finalists along with Georgia, Tennessee and Stanford.

My thing with USC is always this... do you buy the hype?

On paper, they have top talent at every single position. Far more than anyone in their conference when you look at :s:s, and as such they should basically roll everyone on their regular season schedule not named Stanford. Butttttttttt........

-I'm not sold Kessler is even near the same level as his predecessors like Barkley and Sanchez... who all basically turned out to be busts in the pros, which brings into question how good they even actually were. I think he's a very capable QB, but he couldn't even soundly beat out Wittek last year. I think his ceiling is a B+/A- style player not dominant field general.

-Their skill positions on both sides of the ball are hyped as usual. Wake me up whenever a USC skill position player not named Reggie Bush ever matches his hype. The last couple years their budding stars have taken a step back every season they were supposed to explode (see: Woods & Lee from soph->junior).

-They're paper thin virtually everywhere. Do they pull a Stanford and stay magically healthy all season?

-Their OL looks absolutely horrible, and I'll be surprised if the 3 interior guys they're bringing in will be ready to play immediately.

-Their DL may end up being literally the best in the country. That could be their calling card. How good are their linebackers? How good are their corners?

So I could totally see an 11-1 style season, but I could also totally see an implosion if the wrong guys get injured for them. Only time will tell.

i completely agree on all accounts...i only ask that the 1 loss is to ND...I want them to implode as always

I refuse to buy into USC until they actually SHOW that they are "back" to being elite. The past 7-8 years they have lost to a mediocre team early in the season and always seem to lose to 2 of 3 of Stanford, Oregon, ND. They are a 3 loss team at best in my mind until they prove otherwise.

Why do people see USC's D line as being awesome? They lose a guy to the draft and I think graduated someone. They were a very talented unit w/no depth last year. I'm assuming the secondary will be good. O line play should sink the O. I'm betting a ton of short passes to try to alleviate Oline problems. An injury anywhere except RB probably is crippling for them considering their lack of depth.

I saw a lot of "insiders" on Twitter today saying if he picked USC they would bet on a flip by NSD. Hope they're right.

I have zero info, but when I read the posts above I thought to myself, "I don't think this sticks through NSD". Just a gut feeling with no info to back it up.

Coming from a USC fan here... This commitment has a chance to stick he really likes Coach Drevno the Oline coach. He is also best friend's with coach Chris Wilson's son the dline coach brought in from UGA. When Coach came to SC his son has transfered to Serra high school. 6'3" QB from the same high school as Chuma.. with all that said its early for a commitment from a player down south but like I said there is a chance it sticks. We will see long day from signing day

Leonard Williams (94) and J.R. Tavai (58) combined for 20.5 tackles for loss last year, and both return

After some really bad camps, 5 star Ricky Town (#8 overall) expected to take a significant dip in the ratings on Rivals when their new rankings come out soon. I've never understood the Town love, and wasn't concerned one bit when USC got him (he's no better than Kessler IMO...he just doesn't move the needle for me)...and now that he's underwhelmed in the camp circuit, even many USC fans aren't complaining about the drop and are starting to wonder who's better, Town or Stills, who they aren't recruiting as hard anymore.

Somewhere LAX is smiling....
