Question for you guys who play this game: how do you buy things for the game? How easy is it to spend real money on the game?

My family just called and said my younger brother (13) racked up a $1400 bill on their credit card. He's claiming he didn't know he was buying so many things and I don't play this game.

My family tried to dispute the charges but weren't having any luck so now I'm trying to clean up this mess.

Man... couple things...
1. For starters, no way anyone should ever have their credit card tethered to a device their kids are using. Just asking for serious trouble.
2. It's very difficult to buy anything that costs real money. The ONLY thing in the game that costs money are "gems" which are used to boost/speed up/shortcut. To buy those you have to go to a special dedicated screen in the "shop" called "treasure"... where the gems are clearly labeled as costing real $.
3. Apple understands this potential problem, and has parental control options set up to mitigate it.

There are horror stories of things like this happening with little kids in games that let you "unlock content" or buy an extra life or whatever for $. In those cases though, it's usually a case of the game presenting a pop-up that a kid simply clicks "OK" on. That's really not the case here... you have to specifically go buy the gems on a distinct screen, and everything that you can "misclick" deals with fake in-game currencies like gold or elixir or whatever.

I could be wrong on this though, because I've never spent money on the game.

I will say that playing on my iPhone, there have been more than a few times where I was cleaning up my base and accidentally clicked on the gem shortcut. It sends you straight to the purchase screen, and one more click would've bought me a bunch of gems on accident... But $1400 is a lot to spend in their store without realizing what you're doing. The Max purchase at one time is $100 I believe.

I play the game on my iPad 99% of the time. In order to actually spend real money, I have to actually input my password before it lets me make a purchase.

Thankfully haven't spent a dime yet (unlike Candy Crush).

Same on an android except they take you to the play store to select the method of payment and then enter your password.
That's 196k in gems. Kid was maxing everything.

Thanks guys. I'll be having a discussion with my brother later this weekend. My parents aren't very tech savvy so I needed to better understand the format for purchases. If I lived closer to them, I'd have just driven over but I'm 3ish hours away.

You've helped a great deal with the explanations.

Okay, I seriously need help here… I’ve reached the point where all the upgrades costs a million plus and I am finding it near impossible to ever get my storages up to a million for even ONE of these upgrades, let alone all of them.

I find that once my storages get to about 700,000 I get raided over and over until someone breaks through and loots about 70,000 plus of my storage… my storages grow this way but BARELY… how do you guys get your storages up?? I also find raiding is rarely a net gain anymore.
Do I need to level down do get my upgrades? Am I missing something..?

It is very frustrating when I see a village online that has level four mines but has everything upgraded beyond me… how is that even possible???

I am starting to think I just suck at this game. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

def level down and farm -- aka hit bases lower than you with significant resources. Also when farming you dont need the heavy troops, I can raid villages with lv 4 archers and get 100k each time no problem

if you are getting raided often which results in losing your resources, try leaving your TH outside and in easy/open territory. This usually means that someone looking for trophies will scope you before someone looking for resources will. This gives you at least a 15 hour shield and protects your storage

another thing to look at for a base to raid is where they keep their storage containers. You want them on the outer ring of walls or some where accessible for easy targeting. This prevents you from having to dish out 2000+ per giant and wall breaker.

If the storage containers are totally walled off, skip the base, its not worth it

I had fallen in love with dragons when I got them but they SUCK if your goal is to build up your elixir. Try putting together a less expensive army. Giants and archers with a healer or two are a good mix. Also, don't underestimate goblins. Even if you lose, they can get a good amount of resources. Just don't send them out until you've taken down a couple of mortars first.

I roll with Giants, Archers, spells and sometimes minions... the spells get me but i need them to have any chance here...

I'm gonna level down, maybe even twice, then work my way back up...

K I leveld down already... I may just focus on resource attacks only and level down again if needed... I can't currently come close to building up my resources for these upgrades right now.

Couple things...

1. I think everyone goes through this at some point. When I was somewhere in the level 45-55 range, I was obsessed with keeping my trophies up and pushing at crystal. This was mainly because I got into some random good clan where I was the lowest level player (literally didn't meet minimums, got invited basically by accident) so I thought I had to justify my existence with a high rank and tons of donations. As such, I left my TH protected behind layers of walls like you would do in a war. There was a point where my storages would get full-ish saving for upgrades and then I would just get WRECKED by some higher level players for a HUGE loss. It made it very frustrating and near impossible to get over the hump.

The clan ended up falling apart and I joined up with some Australians who weren't quite as good but had a couple guys who were level 110+ and could push to Masters but hung out in Gold/Crystal. They explained to me that I was being an idiot and that at my level I was best off sticking my TH way outside, taking frequent 1-star raid for a trophy loss of 4-10 trophies and a free 12 hour shield. It has minimal impact on your trophies as you can easily win back whatever you lost when you log back on... and most importantly the percentage of times I got hit by someone looking for more than free trophies from my TH was maybe 10% to 20%. So I'd often go weeks without getting hit by anyone who would even attempt to touch my resources.

2. The single most efficient raiding scheme around TH7 and TH8 is to use mass archers. Only works if you have at least archer level 4, and gets really good at archer level 5. Search for bases with full collectors that are shootable by your archers and then go to town.

3. If you don't want to do mass archers, you need to drop down to silver and use giants + breakers + healer + goblins. You use mass giants with a healer to distract/destroy all defenses and let loose the goblins with about a minute left to cleanup all of their resources. Does not work level at Gold level where walls and defenses are too strong.

I love mass archers raids... I'm leveling down now... I'm not gonna give a crud about trophies over the next week and just make sure I earn resources with each raid... actually think I may level down a couple times...

I know it'll hurt the clan for a while if I level down that much, but the long term goal here is to obviously get myself BEYOND where I'm ranked now so...

Yeah man don't worry about trophs. In a sense, Shake is "hurting" the clan by playing about 4 levels below where he should be... and think about how nonsensical that statement is.

All about resources and upgrading at your point. Make sure the lab is always cooking on something.

This was EXACTLY what got me here... i can't afford ANYTHING in my lab currently...

Ever since I hit 1250 trophies initially, I have literally not cared about trophies. I consistently stay in the 1250-1350 range now.

My troop count is 200. My army is almost always 6 WB's, 18 archers, 85 barbs, and 85 goblins. I only do resource raids...but I've found I pretty consistently get 50%, so usually win a few trophies each raid. I'll even somewhat consistently eat the trophy loss by finding somebody with a shit ton of resources to steal...but lose the battle.

I obviously look for matches with high resource counts first, then to see if their storage units are empty, then to see if their collectors are outside the walls. If the collectors are empty, then it's very easy pickings with just barbs and goblins to get the resources, and usually win the battle too.

I'll start cooking my next batch before I go to battle. I usually don't deploy all my troops to achieve my goal, so by the time I come back from battle with what is left over and what I've already been cooking, my wait time is usually around 8 mins. The most time it ever takes me to cook (assuming I have all 4 barracks available, not one going through an upgrade) is 14 minutes (if I have to cook up multiple wall breakers).

So my army is cheap and fast to cook. If I have time to kill, am dicking around, watching a game, etc., I can easily do 3 attacks in 30 minutes-- gaining 200k-500k in resources and maintaining my status quo in trophies.

But when I first started playing, I took Lax and a couple others' advice to heart-- don't upgrade TH until you've upgraded everything else. I've been OCD and disciplined about it. I actually collect a good amount of trophies from defending attacks (I don't get attacked all that often, unless I'm sitting on a ton of resources)-- only people above me can beat me and/or take a significant amount of resources. I always have loot to spend on upgrades too. I only request troops for defensive purposes too-- I don't use them in raids.
