I actually don't blame people on the internet as much as I blame the media outlets for completely shitting the bed on this reporting. To be fair many of us were scratching our heads when this story first broke wondering what the hell was going on. I was scouring random peoples' twitter feeds trying to get a handle on what had transpired. It was so baffling and seemingly impossible that I do not blame people for being disbelieving. If fingers should be pointed anywhere it should be at Deadspin, ESPN, and all the outlets that did no investigation before breaking this story.

Man I feel so bad for Manti and his family. It's got to be tough for them to see their sons name being blasted through the main stream media and social media the way it has been.

I just wish people would leave this guy alone and let this story die already. Seeing Brian and Ottilia cry for their son like that just makes me hate the media and what they've done and are doing to Manti even more. Also it makes me despise what that creep RT has done to this family. Karma's a bitch though so he'll get what's coming to him.

This has been eye-opening in a lot of ways.

I've never really hated humanity more than I have in the past week or so. I'm very aware of how the news media works and all its failings, but never more so than this past week.

It's crazy when you really keep up intensely on a story, know all the ins and outs, then see how different outlets mutilate and manipulate it to further their own narrative/profits.

Sickening. I'm happy that most people at least believe Manti wasn't in on this thing now, but sad beyond description that he will be the brunt of jokes from now till the end of his career.

There are rapists like Kobe and Big Ben out there and accessories to murder like Ray Lewis being given a pass. This kid falls prey to a cruel joke and now his whole career will be plagued by cruel jokes.

RT will get his. It's just a matter of time.

And all he did was make a mistake any one of us would probably make.

Yeah, **** them. But I've often wondered in the past week, how would I have reacted to this story about a star player from, say, Michigan, like Denard Robinson? (just as an example)


Wouldn't I have jumped all over it and lambasted him? I can imagine I would have.

Would I have been as diligent in picking up all the details and information as I have with Manti? How much evidence would it have taken for me to start feeling bad for him?

I would like to think that I, and the fanbase I love, would have come to sympathize and reject this cruelty for what it is... but would it have been too late?
