I had such high hopes for the first one, but I thought it was rather awful.

The trailer seems to imply underlying political questions concerning the justification and morality of the military industrial complex. I found the whole "this isn't freedom this is fear" line to be intriguing.

I really wasn't a fan of the first Captain America but I am hoping for a better showing.

do you work for the studio?

I do consulting from time to time. Hollywood producers and directors just have to know what a 26 year old grad student from Chicago thinks before they do their final editing.

Me too. The thing is: Captain America sells itself. He fights Nazis for fucks sake. How do you ruin such an awesome premise? I know! Let's put Nick Fury and Black Widow in it, for absolutely no reason whatsoever!!!!!!!

*marvel needs to take the gloves off and stop being so so campy with their titles. This could have been an epic trilogy

Absolute reason for Black Widow being in there... Smoking Hot

aside from that fact...per the yahoo article, here is their reasoning:

[Johansson's] character lies for a living, that’s what she does. [Chris Evans's] character tells the truth. That’s why we put the two of them together in the movie ... She’s pushing him to modernize, and he’s pushing her to add a certain level of integrity to her life.

...except that Steve Rogers is intimately involved in SHIELD in both the Earth-616 and Ultimate universes. There's a conflict brewing under the surface where Captain America is going to break with SHIELD because what they do isn't right.

Campy? "The Winter Soldier" isn't some cheesy nickname for Captain America. He's the bad guy, and he's a badass. Read Ed Brubaker's Winter Soldier story arc.

Honest question, for those that like these movies, not trying to offend, just honestly trying to understand how these movies still make money…

When you go to see a comic flick or your run of the mill Michael Bay film (you know the type) do you often go lit up like a Christmas tree? I don't like many of these movies... and most are horrid. I often wonder what the appeal is. Then I was talking with good friends about a month ago (they love all these films) and one mentioned how high they got before “x” film and how ‘dope the movie was’… so I thought about it, and I honestly couldn’t remember going to a movie with these guys without them blazing right before…

So yeah, I’m honestly curious what drives these films, over and over and over… Are you all just really freaking high??

I mean what drives them is that they end up checking a ton of demographic boxes because of their wide appeal. There is insane family/grade school turnout/young adult turnout to these movies. They are your quintessential "popcorn flick" that is meant strictly for entertainment.

I, personally, love these kinds of movies when done well. Dark Knight was an incredibly good movie.

Just watched "Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe" about all things Marvel right now and where the movies are headed. It was on ABC two nights ago. I'm fuckin stoked about this movie and the rest to come.

Totally agree on Dark Knight, though it was a big exception to the rule with these ones imo...

The fact that you compared all super hero movies to "Michael Bay" movies tells me that we wouldn't likely get along.

Did you like the Avengers at all? Just curious.

Thought this movie was much better than the first Captain America. I was very entertained throughout. And Scarlett....

Saw it Friday. Scarlett got breast reduction and it's terrible.

Movie itself was decent tho. I'm a big fan of the whole "America Fuck Yeah!!!" Premise.

I thought Winter Soldier was miles ahead of the first one, and I enjoyed the first one more than many it seems.

Saw it with my 10 year old Sunday. Good flick. Much better than the first one, although the first one I think is made better by this one, if that makes any sense. I like the lead-ins to other movies at the end, kids went nuts on the Avengers lead in.

For me, this is why you go to a theatre. Heart pounding action flick. Comic books heroes are made for the CG capabilities we have today. I like how Marvel is building on characters and intertwining story lines, while at the same time making movies that can stand on their own if you haven't seen the others.

A few subtle things that I got a kick out of - the phrase on Nick Fury's tombstone, who made the drug Fury took, Stan Lee cameo always makes me smirk. Interested to see how this ties into Agents of Shield, particularly Sitko.

I'm embarrassed I missed these details. Fill me in?

Marvel had already taken steps to control their intellectual property but the Disney buy out opens the checkbook and puts them over the top, IMO. The ability to weave their stories between TV and big screen and pump out movies in volume with access to premier CG, acting and directing talent.... yeah get used to it b/c Marvel is just getting started.

Stan Lee was the security guard at the museum "I'm losing my job for this"
