I don't think it makes sense to apply recruiting history/trends to Tillery's status with ND.

He's clearly a-typical, in that he's a national recruit (or will be), he's in Louisianna, and he committed to ND a year early (no info, but I'd bet the numbers for 'elite' out of state kids that DO choose ND, is really, really high for 'last second announcements' or 'NSD decisions' and really, really low for 'committed to ND early'.... Insert exception to rule here ___________). And when you hear his words from an interview, you can tell he's not a typical high school kid.

Not saying he's a ND lock, but trying to apply logic in a recruitment that so far defies logic, is illogical.

That actually makes perfect sense in terms of "logic" lol. And reps for the use of Spock.

Dude, no offense to you, but you've been wrong A LOT, and every time someone says something that even whiffs of not being a complete positive for ND, you come back with posts like above, totally based in homerism and fantasy.

Example...I told you long before NSD that Mackenzie wasn't going to be Irish and he would never qualify, and you came back with a post similar to yours above, saying he'd never turn his back on a school that stuck by his side for so long, and saying, "He visits, he commits, end of story." You were all over me on that recruitment and challenged any info I had, because you were 100% positive McKenzie would be Irish. Well, he's not Irish.

Example...when we told you Michael Sawyers was a long shot and he probably won't even visit, you stated, "There is literally 0% chance that Sawyers doesn't visit ND. He said he would visit no matter what." He cancelled his visit shortly thereafter, as predicted, and never visited.

Example...you said the DT we'd most likely end up with is Malik McDowell. When we told you he was the longest of longshots, you scoffed because his dad was in our corner, making ND his most likely landing spot. He never even considered us in the end.

Example: Here was your 'realistic finish for ND" on NSD:
McDowell
Sawyers
Quick
McKenzie
(0-4)

I could go on, but you get the point. I have no problem with you being such a homer, but to denigrate other people's thoughts as hogwash all the dang time just because their thoughts don't include ND signing every 5 star and winning a natty every year is well, 'hogwash'.

I'll add to this that the LSU coaches have told Tillery he's a priority and he's listening. That's a fact and that doesn't sound like a solid commit to me. Also, I think that some of this got a little off track. This conversation started with some (including myself) saying he wasn't a solid commit. Not that he was going to decommit. There is a difference.

I for one got a little nervous about him attending the camp, and I won't write the Tigers off until the signature is in on NSD. Local pressure is huge in the south, and LSU is a hot team. That said, I thought for sure we were going to lose Hill to Texas this last cycle, and the staff was able to hold on so it's definitely nothing near "he gone" time.

Another take on the camp is that he might just be an uber-competitive kid who wants exposure and accolades. Nothing wrong with that. Wasn't it Elmer who didn't really do the whole camp thing and got docked by recruiting services as a result? Brent opted out of all-star games last year, and that probably cost him a chance at a 5th star. Not saying he would have been a 5 star, but he was climbing the rankings at such a high pace, he could have had a Michael Floyd-esque performance and slid in. Maybe Tillery wants to be seen as the top lineman in the country and is willing to put in the time to prove it against the best competition he can get his hands on.

Absolutely nothing to base that on, but figured I'd throw it out as a possibility.

My issue was, I didn't think he participated in any drills whether it was a camp or not. He was just there and talking with coaches, experiencing the atmosphere, etc. If he did partake in a camp and competed, that would make me feel better. But I thought a main issue was that he did not actually attend or participate in an actual camp at LSU.

Mhmm, which is why I said that whole rationalization about "just a camp" where he is "getting better" and "wanting to compete" is complete garbage to me. Call it a camp if you want, it was more of a junior day than anything for him.

Oh. Well then ignore my earlier post.

I would still be relatively shocked if he didn't end up here though.

It doesn't really matter if he participated or not. The bottom line is if he was there, you know the LSU coaches were talking to him.

To me the biggest pressure he may face will be from kids at his HS wanting him to go to LSU.

Mom is a fan? What?

That's exactly what I thought. They seem to be making a fool of rivals right now. Mother is a member of II and puts Go Irish on the back of her posts. However now Jerry is telling Steve Hare she's an LSU fan. For what seems to be a smart family there is some weird drama here. Side note, I'm not going to get into because it seems like they like to read message boards but her back and forth with an II poster a couple weeks back was a little off.

Perhaps she is a fan of both... ?

That's not unnatural. It's like a Reese' peanut butter cup. There's the chocolate and the peanut butter, both great.

Mom is a fan? What?

You know time for a Bog story.

So happens I know a lot of people from down abouts the bayou country.

I laugh often, because where I live in Toledo there are a lot of "House Divided Flags."

Those are ones that are half OSU, and half UM. Well I cannot tell you how many people I know from LA that are Tiger and Irish fans. One couple who get together with my extended family as extended family, are just that Todd wears his LSU gear, and Lisa her Irish. They are like the third or fourth couple so divided that we know.

I think there is good history for it. New Orleans, port city from colonial days, has a huge Irish, and an even bigger Catholic community. The not only were the Arcadians relocated to New Orleans, but the early longshoremen were predominantly Irish, so the Irish population is high. In the Civil War most have heard of the New York (and MA) "Irish Brigade", but there were a number of Confederate groups like the Louisiana Tigers, that were all Irish units that developed fierce reputations.

It is history and custom. Both.

I don't know what was said, but mothers are typically very protective people when it comes to their kids. Some will show their protection easier than others.

I hope we're the chocolate. I'm not big on the peanut butter.

You can get milk chocolate anywhere. The defining and unique characteristic of a Reese's Cup is the delicious, rich peanut butter filling.

This is the same update from II as yesterday. Just looking to recycle info. When asked if ND should be concerned and he said "No, not really. My mom's just an LSU fan so I did it for her. It was their Junior Day." Him and a friend might attend the Spring game.

I don't get too worked up over recruiting anymore. It seems that a verbal "commitment" means less every year. Who can say how Tillery views a verbal commitment. He is definitely going to be bombarded with attention from rival schools, but if Notre Dame is a good fit we will be fine. If not, then it is better that he finds a school that is right for him. He would look great in blue and gold but nobody is irreplaceable.
