Well, gk, i've always approached "further" as a comparative measure of time and "farther" as one of distance.

Language is fluid. As far as I know they are, by "common usage" now interchangeable.

I may hate it, I may grind my (remaining) teeth, but as an anthem from my earlier years posits:
