Maybe. It's hard to get stronger when you're trying to shed a considerable amount of weight. He'll need his strength for the bench and any plyometric test.

Don't necessarily agree with this. I can remember a while back when I dropped about 30lbs. I did it mostly through lifting and a stair climber. I was eating a ton of "good food" and increased my bench considerably. I'm guessing he's using one of those guys that specialize in getting players ready for the combine so he should know what he's doing.

Would love to see him "nail" the combine.

Were you a D1 defensive end playing for ND?

I don't disagree that Tuitt could shed weight while gaining strength, but unless you were in football playing shape, I am not sure the comparison is apt.

I don't mean this as a slight to you, just saying that in all likelihood, the starting point was much different.

Yea, I think a healthy and fit Tuitt contributes at least 1 more win for ND.

Yup. We all saw what kind of game changing impact he was capable of having against USC. He was completely unblockable. Too bad he couldn't bring that more often.

When would we have had time to get back into shape? He was hurt all year? I agree he wasn't gonna win over Kuejhna but there are people on the 4HL questioning his effort.

Very big Bears fan. The Pack does it right but man, I don't wanna see Tuitt causing da Bears problems...I wish him the best regardless of wherever he goes.

Yea, that would be tough. Having to play him twice a year.

Still looks little chubby and this is after weeks of insane work, he really played this season out of shape. I Remember how people was fascinated with him because he had very little bad body weight for a man of his size.

I wish him nothing but the best. Tuitt will go down as one of my favorite players to watch in 2012 he dominated.

Didn't Kelly claim that he was unable to work out his core last offseason? I'd think that would have a negative impact on your conditioning/weight.

Hernia's is a bitch.

A few things : He acknowledged his high school coaches, but no one from college.

He still seems to have some resentment for the way he was treated last fall.

The power with which he hit that Stanford runningback in the middle of that '12 highlight reel is amazing. He took all the players forward momentum and directed it sideways and down. That was a primary demonstration of change in momentum on a football field!

Can you elaborate?

I like Tuitt, but the kid's been on a pedestal since he arrived at ND.

I don't see why he wouldn't be anything but thankful for the opportunities he's had at ND.

B) The only mention of ND in the interview was when asked why he chose ND, he said he thought it was the best fit.

Not surprised. Golson gets away from Longo and his program, gets incredible physical results. Tuitt gets away from Longo, finally gets into shape after over a year. Can't wait to see what DD does with sometime away from the system. I hope Carlo and Fox can finally increase their speed and drop the extra pounds in time to land a NFL team.

Golson gained weight from frosh to soph year, Tuitt got imposing post frosh year etc... Of course going from school and fball to only fball increases the gains they're seeing... It's all they do...

Bingo. They can dedicate more time towards the gym and shaping their bodies when they don't have to worry about the time and attention they need to put forth toward their studies.

Or playing games, or practicing, or in-season lifting (which is completely different from off-season) or watching film. I mean it's hard to get your body in tip-top shape during the season, that's why the off-season is so important for football. You can get your game legs and lungs, but you're only going to get in slightly better shape then when the season started, and that's only if you stay injury free (not likely). It's just not like that when you put your body through that grind.

Now these guys feel fresh and they are being able to put in more work during the off-season. I don't care how much you work out during the off-season, nothing compares to what a college football season will do to your body as college aged athlete.

Just guessing here, but maybe the staff thought he should have been doing more then he was (just using typical recovery times and speaking to doctors). Maybe some passing comments like, "Hey big guy can't wait to get you back". While ST just didn't feel ready to go all out. Recovery times vary for everyone and there's always the mental aspect as well.

NDAccountant.....Sure, look me up on the 74 roster. ;)

Based on all the grammatical errors in his tweets, I'm not sure much time was wasted in this department.

Golson was training pretty much like a professional for 12 months, he didnt have to go to class or hold down a job, of course he was gonna see massive strength/weight gains. Ditto for Tuitt he's working out all day every day (probably) and has proper nutrition supplied too. I remember an article on JJ Watt and him saying the best thing about being a Pro as opposed to College was that you could afford to eat healthy food Lol

Actually Golson was gone for only about 6 months, which makes his gains even more impressive
