Blake is going to help bring in a monster class. I am still optimistic about Cornell but unsure about Hilliard. Either way, his early commitment is going to be extremely valuable in the long run.

it looks like Jashon Cornell needs to step his game up. He should not rely on just being # 1 on Espn . I am not saying that is what he is doing, but obviously there is a vast contrast in whoever is scouting him.

Personally I don't view him as the #1 player in the country.

Agreed. But ND needs to be establishing dominance over michigan for Midwest recruits. We also need to be battling OSU for the Cincy area. That's the best area for ND to recruit in Ohio due to a decent ND following. It's the only place we are already established.

"Ahem!"

According to Bucknuts nut Bill Kuerlic, Cornell and Hilliard are looking to set up unofficial visits together to OSU and.... Michigan. This is supposedly what the tweet about "making moves" was referring to.

Guy runs the looney tune bin over there.

Two Big Ten teams got the chance to impress Jashon Cornell (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), the No. 1 prospect in the 2015 class, this weekend.

Cornell took in a Minnesota basketball game on Friday and then took a trip to Iowa for a junior day.

Cornell is from Minnesota so he is familiar with the Golden Gophers, but being able to see Iowa up close gave him a new perspective.

DE Jashon Cornell, the No. 1 prospect in the Class of 2015, made trips to Minnesota and Iowa this weekend.
“The one thing I saw at Iowa was the players that they’re recruiting. ... They said they want to recruit the best of the best and that they want football players no matter who you are,” he said. “I saw a lot of big guys on the visit, a lot of good linemen [who] have potential. That’s one thing about Iowa; they get their linemen right there.”

There is still a lot of time left before Cornell makes a decision, but getting him on campus is always positive. The ESPN Junior 300 prospect said it helps him to see schools in person because he can actually see what the coaches discuss during their phone calls, and it gives him a better perspective of what the school has to offer.

Another benefit to the trip is he didn’t make it alone, as his cousin also happens to be a football recruit. Brison White (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall), a 2016 running back, has been getting attention and took in the Iowa junior day with Cornell.

“They were selling the school and motivating us to pick Iowa. We got to see the plans for the new sports complex they’re building that will be three times bigger than the one they have,” White said. “They showed us a 3D video of what it will look like, and it looks beautiful. I’m happy that they’re making the effort for younger guys like me. I think that’s good for them.”

Cornell and White live 10 minutes from each other and have always been close. White likes to tell people that Cornell was the skinniest person he has ever seen growing up, but he recognizes the positives of having a family member going through the process before him.

“I’m going to use Jashon as a lead example with what he does, what he takes out of his recruitment and the successful things he does,” White said. “I’m watching how he handles everything right now, and I can add to that how I want to do it when I’m in his spot.”

Hope it doesn't hurt ND's chances that Jay Rockkk was banned from IE. Would love for Hilliard and Cornell to be suiting up in South Bend. CBK needs to remind Jashon that he has the same initials as a rather famous religious figure.

What is the word on the street on this guy? Is he an Onuwalu and Floyd type guy who is a hard worker and knows what education means or a Henderson type guy. I know he is friends with Onuwalu but he is also the number 1 recruit in the country. Anyone with insight?

He is only the #1 recruit on ESPN, and I expect that to change. The kid is very, very talented, but IMO there is no way he is the #1 kid in '15.

As for his recruitment, ND is on him hard, as they have been for a long time. Cornell is probably play the process out though, taking his OVs.

ESPN does love their Defensive Ends, and I sort of agree with your assessment.

I think it's a really tough read on both Cornell and Hilliard right now. I'm not sure how much Hilliard likes the ND social scene relative to your typical big state school. I think Cornell has us at worst in a top 2 and the change at DC could be a positive or negative.

For ND to land these guys we need to not get out recruited by BBQs and other crap over the offseason and then put together a good season that features a win over Michigan.

Lax, I'd be surprised if either of these two were to be swayed by the BBQ in the shithouse.......especially with the decommits they've already had with the '15 class, but funnier things have happened......

Is it too early to note that supposed package deals - especially for kids who aren't brothers like the Atkinsons but in fact live 700 miles apart - sound nice but rarely pan out in the end?

They wanting to play together actually worries me. I'm not sure how crazy Hilliard is on ND. I think OSU could be the team that benefits greatly from their desire to be together at the next level. Michigan doesnt really scare me because, well Michigan sucks. They should have another lousy year this year. OSU will win 10+ again.

Not to bring up another angle, but is MSU a player of note in this. A) their recruiting is going bonkers as of late (I know - bonkers!); B) MSU's defense has all the bona fides for a top young defensive player; C) I think that MSU is going to start to dominate the big1G or whatever it is, and that MSU could be looking at an undefeated regular season, (I think they will really hurt the Buckeyes this year); D) The only reason I am not certain Dantonio will take over the world is, that I never had a good feeling about the MSU campus, and I have been told that the social life there is a step or three behind similar other big schools.

Valid point. These kids may be good friends, but when you're about to make the biggest decision in your life to date, then the smart kids start thinking everything through. One might say they can't wait to get to school to enjoy the party scene. The other hears that and thinks to himself, I want my degree just in case I don't make the NFL.

The Minnesota insider on 24/7 who claims to know someone on staff has changed his crystal balls from Florida to Michigan to now Arky. So I am just gonna go ahead and say he has no idea what he is talking about.
