I knocked back a few Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porters at a bar yesterday. Really good stuff. I didn't realize it was 9.2% abv until I was into my third and I started buzzing pretty good. I'm looking to grab a case for home this week, do my days off right.

For the record, it sucks being stuck at work for a couple more hours while reading about the beers ya'll are enjoying.

I bought 3 sixers today. Dark Horse Brewing Co Crooked Tree IPA, Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA, and New Holland Ranger IPA. Dark Horse is pretty good as is Torpedo. The Ranger isn't my favorite.

Like Torpedo... Ranger is not that great... I had their White IPA for the Super Bowl also... just not a big fan of New Belgium's beers

Agree. And I made a mistake, thank you for correcting me. It is New Belgium Ranger, New Holland makes Mad Hatter which I actually really like.

Totally disagree. Ranger is one of the gems of the New Belgium repertoire. Not exactly a West Coast IPA, but leans that way.

I tried some new bourbon this week. I bought a bottle of Willet, which comes in a very cool bottle shaped like a pot still. I've heard good things about it, so I was underwhelmed when I tried it. It's not bad, Willet is a solid bourbon. But there just wasn't as much going on as I'd hoped. It didn't outperform Buffalo Trace or Eagle Rare, IMO, even though it was $10 more per bottle. It was smooth and balanced for being 94 proof, though.

I tried Michter's yesterday, and that was a punch in the face. The alcohol heat just overshadowed everything, even after I dropped in a little cold water. Again, not a bad bourbon, but not as good as I was led to believe. I wouldn't have it again; that alcohol burn was just too much.

Funny thing about Michter's. Lawrenceberg Distillers Indiana ("LDI") played a big role in the resurgence of straight rye whiskey. They perfected a high quality 95% rye white dog product that Diageo purchased, aged and bottled into Bulleit 95. LDI went bankrupt and was bought out by MGP Ingredients, who currently provides the white dog for most of the rye whiskey on the market today:

Lagavulin DE 1994 16yo finished in Pedro Ximenez casks. A very nice sweet and smokey scotch.
