See but I think that's an infinitely shittier thing to do than what I suggested. Why let a scholarship just sit there unused when some poor kid is paying 40K per year to go to school. Assuming the player puts the effort in, we should always give available scholarships away. We just don't need to be guaranteeing them past one year.

Because you're still operating under the terms of the deal you made - they're walk-ons.

Put it this way: giving the walk-on a scholarship only when they earn it and letting them keep it until graduation (or misconduct, etc) protects the value of the scholarship. You don't just hand them out and take them away willy nilly. They're important and valuable because they represent something else important and valuable, i.e., an opportunity for a free education from the University of Notre Dame.

Yeah, that's kind of how I see it. The scholarship is more than just the money ... it's the recognition from ND that you deserve to be one of the 85 guys in whom ND has chosen to make an investment. I see what gk is saying about how it's just silly to let a scholarship go unused, and maybe that's right (I mean, if we really had 8 unused scholarships, would we really not give any to walkons? I don't know), but I also think, as Whiskey pointed out earlier, that it makes sense to have a get-one-and-you've-got-it-forever policy because it keeps the walk-ons motivated to try to earn one. If they know it can be taken away as quickly as its earned, will they stay as motivated? What will their morale be like? It weakens the walkon program, and walkons are more important to us than probably any other FBS program because we never seem to have a full 85. JMO.

I can't read all of this walk-on scholarship stuff right now, but I'll say that I hope the policy is that there are two different categories. One for using the remaining scholarships on walk-ons on a one-year basis; it's a favor from the university to use all 85 no matter what. The other is elevating a walk-on to scholarship level for the duration of his career. I just think they're different scenarios. Using extra scholarships on seniors makes the situation easier, so there's that. Signing 85 guys makes it easiest, so there's that too.

Which means he reached out for contact rather than vice versa, right?

Per II he has made a decision to sign at 12pm EST. Hasn't decided on where he's going just that its going to be done tomorrow morning. He called the ND staff and informed them that he in fact will be deciding just didn't tell them where either.

Given his tweet about taking to Stoops and his sudden noon deadline, I'ma say he gone.

If he had left out the exclamation point in his tweet, then I'd say ND all the way.

Seriously though, I think you're right.

Could be right, or Stoops realized it's not a sure thing and asked him to pick early enough that OU could scramble for a contingency prospect. Just spitballing.

Or he talked to Stoops and told him what he told ND. He's not sure and will decide tomorrow. Thank God it's almost over.

And maybe he didn't tweet about BK calling because BK is waiting to call when he can say "Good night, talk to you tomorrow!"
